The idea of knowledge-based engineering is to widely automate design tasks and support developers in the analysis and syntheses of complex engineering artifacts. A very common application is product configuration. In the past, different reasoning techniques have been proposed, one of them model-based reasoning and in particular constraint satisfaction problems. In the present contribution, the authors report about a case-study about the implementation of a constraint-based configuration system with onboard resources of a computer aided design system. © 2022 ieee.

As a standardized software framework and open E/E system architecture, the AUTomotive Open system ARchitecture (AUTOSAR) has been widely applied to autonomous driving systems to enable real-time control. However, due to the increasing design complexity and the lack of efficient algorithms and design automation tools, it is difficult to quickly figure out an optimal task scheduling scheme for an AUTOSAR-based system. To address this problem, we introduce a novel task scheduling method that can parallelly search for an optimal solution with the help of our proposed pruning strategy. Experimental results on a real-world AUTOSAR-based autonomous driving system demonstrate that our approach can achieve much better task scheduling solutions than the ones obtained manually and significantly reduce the overall task scheduling time. © 2023 ieee.

To address the shortage of industrial robotics training equipment in vocational colleges, a collaborative simulation system has been developed to emulate the integrated operations of industrial robots, PLCs, and HMI touchscreens. Centered around the RobotStudio 6.08 and TIA Portal V18 software platforms, this system achieves seamless communication between the platforms by establishing simulation models and configuring the S7-PLCSIM Advanced V5.0 software along with the RSConnectDIOToSnap7 Smart communication component. Through meticulous design of control programs and HMI interfaces, the system has been successfully established as a comprehensive simulation platform for industrial robotics training. Extensive simulation testing and validation have confirmed that this system effectively replicates the dynamic interactions of industrial robots, PLCs, and HMI touchscreens, providing a training experience that closely mirrors that of actual industrial robotics equipment. © 2024 ieee.

Nondestructive testing is the most economical method for material inspection used in science and technology industries to evaluate the properties of a material component or system without causing damage. Aside from straightforward sensory inspections, the most popular nondestructive testing methods for welds include liquid penetrant, radiography, magnetic particle, eddy current, and ultrasonic testing. Contaminants and metallurgical flaws can be introduced into the weld via the welding process and technique. A weak weld causes a welding fault, which weakens the joint. It is described as the location in the welding process that is outside the allowable tolerance. In our research, we have applied data augmentation technique to our dataset. Further, we have used Detectron2 which offers various detection and segmentation algorithms to perform instance segmentation to segment out various defects in the images of welds. We used Slicing aided Hyper Inference to slice and overlap the images and performed large-scale instance segmentation using Mask R-CNN X101-FPN on 44,339 images. The approach results in 0.98 training accuracy of MASK- RCNN and a total training loss of 0.2. The Average Precision is calculated as 0.826. © 2023 ieee.

Vibratory equipment is widely used in various fields of mechanical, industrial, and manufacturing engineering. Particularly, such machines can be effectively implemented while carrying out finishing technological operations, e.g., glazing, polishing, and lapping of different machine parts. The present paper is focused on developing the control system for the novel design of a vibratory lapping-polishing machine driven by six solenoids. The main purpose consists in providing the circular trajectory of the working member and ensuring the machining uniformity at each point of the surface being treated. In such a case, it is proposed to actuate the solenoids with the specified time shift depending on the forced frequency needed to be provided. The duration of the signal actuating the solenoid is equal to one-sixth of the total duration of a cycle (period) of the working body oscillation. The corresponding control approach is developed and simulated in the Tinkercad application, while the control system is designed based on the Arduino hardware and software. In addition, the laboratory prototype of the vibratory lapping-polishing machine and the corresponding control system are implemented in practice. The performed laboratory studies and experimental tests substantiate the possibilities of generating the circular oscillations of the working member of the vibration-driven lapping-polishing machine. The obtained results may be useful for engineers and technologists dealing with control systems of various vibratory technological equipment based on electromagnetic and solenoid-type drives. © 2023 ieee.

As important working equipment on the sea, offshore cranes play an important role in a series of activities at sea. Offshore crane is a kind of mechanical equipment specially used for lifting materials at sea. It is widely used in ports, ships, marine engineering and other fields. It is used for loading and unloading goods, installing equipment, maritime rescue, scientific research and detection tasks. In ship operation, due to the complexity of the marine environment and the instability of the hull, the lifting operation is often affected by the ship excitation and wind load, and the lifting load is prone to swing, which brings difficulties and risks to the operation and cargo transportation. Under the influence of interference such as sea waves, the payload of offshore cranes is prone to large swing in the process of transportation. If not controlled, it will cause adverse effects. It is very important to realize the accurate positioning of payloads in special application environment. Therefore, this paper proposes an active disturbance rejection control method for offshore cranes based on differential flatness technique. Specifically, the coupling problem of the system is solved by differential flatness technique, and effective flat outputs are constructed. Then, we design an active disturbance rejection controller using the constructed flat outputs. The expressions of the relationship between the flat outputs and the state variables can be calculated. Finally, in order to verify whether the method is true and effective, and can achieve the desired objectives, we conduct a set of simulation tests. © 2024 ieee.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been conceived as an available solution to substitute terrestrial base stations (TBSs) to provide downloading services for user equipment (i.e. mobile devices) that have difficulty communicating directly with TBSs. However, the mobility of user equipment (UE) and the random nature of the number of UE will cause several challenges including 1) the hardness of determining optimal user association and UAV resource (i.e., bandwidth and transmit power) allocation decision, 2) the burden of network function maintenance owing to the necessity of shutting down the entire system. Therefore, in this article, joint user association and resource allocation are designed for a software-defined network (SDN)-adopted leaderless softwarized UAV network, where each UAV is regarded as a flying SDN controller to enhance the control ability of the considered network. The purpose is to maximize energy efficiency (EE) with satisfying the quality of service (QoS). To this end, a joint method based on hierarchical agglomerative clustering (HAGC) and multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient (MADDPG) is proposed. Specifically, the HAGC approach is utilized to determine the optimal MDs association with UAVs. Afterward, MADDPG approach is leveraged to obtain the best policy for resource allocation, aiming to achieve the maximum EE. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by the evaluation results. © 2023 ieee.

The field of biomechanics for human voluntary motions in three dimensions encompasses a wide array of applications. The process of transitioning from a seated position to a standing position, referred to as sit-to-stand, is a basic motion that is frequently executed during various everyday tasks. The current investigation centers on enhancing 3D bipedal locomotion through the creation of a novel system utilizing a Twist and Tilt scheme to perform sit-to-stand (STS) movements. This mechanism, in contrast with previous models, does not consider any foot fixed for the whole profile. This type enables one foot to perform a twisting movement and the other foot to perform a tilting movement. The tilt foot schematic is built with two distinct schemes: one involving sliding tilt, the other with rotating tilt. This scheme is designed to study STS issues faced by neurologically deficient human beings while carrying out different joint positions. The twist and tilt models are designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software. They consist of an 8-part bipedal structure, which includes two feet, two calves / shanks, two thighs, one pelvis, and one HAT section. Both of these twist and tilt models are first produced in SOLIDWORKS Corp software. Subsequently, to facilitate control implementation, these models undergo linearization using SIMULINK / SIMSCAPE and MATLAB. By employing the analysis of controllability and Observability, it is revealed that the design, which incorporates one foot linear tilt, consists of twelve states. Furthermore, it is determined that one foot linear model has full rank controllability and observability and is suitable to design controller. © 2023 ieee.
