In this paper, a formal and effective methodology is proposed to characterize a subset of reduced-order flat outputs for nonlinear implicit systems described in the differential geometric framework of jets of infinite order. The proposed methodology includes an original management of the degrees of freedom left by the polynomial matrices approach. First, a reduced-order basis of the free left D-module, finitely presented by the variational system, is obtained by computing some reduced-order bases of the left nullspace of Ore polynomial matrices and by using the weak Popov form over an Ore algebra. Under the assumption that the latter module is free, a structural constraint is introduced in the generalized Cartan moving frame structure equations in order to obtain a subset of reduced-order flat outputs.

In this paper, new significant features of the root locus of the uniform and circulant multiple-input multiple-output systems are presented. It is shown that these multiple-input multiple-output systems have root loci branches that simultaneously possess both the properties of root loci and complimentary root loci of common single-input single-output systems irrespective of the feedback sign. A special attention is devoted to the root locus of uniform and circulant multiple-input multiple-output systems that do not have strictly proper transfer functions. For these systems, it is shown that some branches of the multivariable root loci can pass through infinity for certain finite values of the system gain.

The objective of this paper is to illustrate that the standard form or Linear Fractional Transformation LFT framework is a unique and powerful framework to treat with nonlinear systems during control law synthesis and analysis. It is also shown that the expression linear in the acronym LFT is too restrictive as a nonlinear behaviour can be simulated by using the LFT framework. Within this paper, a precise and as small as possible LFT for a nonlinear 2-DOF aircraft with time varying parameters is derived. This LFT is validated both in a linear and nonlinear framework.

Robustness of Model Predictive control (MPC) has been extensively investigated, considering both on-line and off-line strategies. However the implementation of the theoretical background required within such methodologies may appear complicated to the users, in particular in terms of tuning parameters. To overcome this difficulty, this paper proposes a new powerful toolbox which permits off-line robustness improvement of multivariable unconstrained MPC via the convex optimization of the Youla parameter. This toolbox, so-called MIMOptMPC, provides robustified controllers, guaranteeing robust stability under model unstructured uncertainties and nominal performance specifications for the disturbances rejection, while being a user friendly and easily extensible tool. In addition, MIMOptMPC offers visualization facilities and allows relevant comparisons between results obtained with the different robustified MPC controllers.
This paper deals with DRGA analysis for uncertain systems. Uncertainties in a process model can be translated into uncertainties in the DRGA which might invalidate the decision on the variable paring in decentralized ...

As initially suggested by E. Sontag [1], [2] it is possible to approximate an arbitrary nonlinear system by a set of piecewise linear systems. In this work we concentrate on how to control a system given by a set of piecewise linear systems defined on simplices. By using the results of L. Habets and J. van Schuppen [3] it is possible to find a controller for the system on each of the simplices thus guaranteeing that the system flow on the simplex only will leave the simplex through a subset of its faces. Motivated by R. Forman [4], on the triangulated state space we define a combinatorial vector field, which indicates for a given face the future simplex. In the suggested definition we allow nondeterminacy in form of splitting and merging of solution trajectories. The combinatorial vector field gives rise to combinatorial counterparts of most concepts from dynamical systems, such as duals to vector fields, flow, flow lines, fixed points and Lyapunov functions. Finally it will be shown how this theory extends to switched dynamical systems and an algorithmic overview of how to do supervisory control will be shown towards the end.

The efficient control of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) is the key for the optimization of renewable energy supplies used in stand-alone micro-generators. A Wind / Photovoltaic combined power generator, with the possibility to incorporate a hydrogen fuel cell as energy backup or connect the system to the grid [2], in order to achieve reliable, self-sufficient, continuous power to variable sources and loads, is the structure tackled in this research project and the control of the integrated Wind/PV system is the scope of this paper. The research work takes advantage of the new generation of computeraideddesign (CAD) tools, able to generate a fast hardware implementation from synthesizable high level modelling code [3], [4]. The proposed system uses DK5, from Agility design Solutions [5], design and modelling software environment based on Handel-C programming language. The research led to the rapid development, prototyping and testing of an FPGA based controller for the integrated renewable power generation system.

This paper presents a methodology to design Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) fully digital controller for Power Electronics. Step by step, the proposed Top-down methodology based on Very high speed integrated circuits Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and on Matlab-Modelsim co-simulation is presented. It is used to study and validate the digital adaptation and the architecture implementation of the control algorithm. Modelling, Matlab-Modelsim co-simulation and virtual prototyping are achieved in a unique design environment managed by Matlab computeraideddesign tools. An application using the proposed methodology was studied: a digital controller for three-phase Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF). The power circuit has been modelled in the Matlab/Simulink environment, using the dedicated Power system Blockset (PSB) toolbox. The digital controller is modelled in VHDL code in the Modelsim environment. Then, this VHDL model is imported into Matlab environment and co-simulated using the Link-For-Modelsim toolbox. A high level VHDL model for the controller using real data format has been first designed and validated by co-simulation. Then, an optimized VLSI architecture for the controller using a specific data binary format has been modelled in VHDL code at Register Transfert Level and successfully validated by Matlab-Modelsim co-simulation.

Concurrent requests for assets such as Unmanned Vehicles (UV) by distributed semi-autonomous teams pose a difficult challenge to coordination and resource optimization. A Collaboration Management Interface system was designed on the basis of a requirements analysis of the UV domain, research findings on group cognition, and concepts from game theory. The system analyzes the joint utility space for concurrent plans, matches them to appropriate game structures, selects an appropriate tactic (centered on information, problem solving, or negotiation), and implements the collaboration scheme in an interface protocol. The methods have considerable promise for coordination of distributed teams in a variety of contexts and for reducing cognitive biases associated with collaboration.
