This paper discusses the improvement of the tracking accuracy on an automotive suspension test rig by extending the available industrial off-line controller with a H. feedback controller. To reach a prescribed accuracy level in a bandwidth between 0 and 20 Hz, the off-line controller needs 7 iterations on a 2-axial durability suspension test rig to determine the correct control inputs. The extended scheme employs H,,, control techniques to achieve the same result in only 3 iterations. This approach takes forward the process of durability testing to a point where the required accuracy can be achieved in significantly less time.

The development of an LFT representation for the non-linear HIRMplus research model is presented. The structured singular value mu is applied on the so developed LFT in order to clear critical areas in the flight envelope. mu-Analysis allows to determine the combination of uncertain parameters within their respective bounds, for which a performance criterion or stability margin is worst. For a sensible worst-case analysis, it is important that the uncertain parameters are directly related to the physical uncertain/varying parameters in the nonlinear model. First a symbolic nonlinear model of the HIRMplus is developed, which depends on the physical parameters of interest in a rational way. Then the model is linearised symbolically. A low order LFT model is generated and compared with one obtained using an affine modelling approach. Although both model representations are aimed to cover the same flight conditions, the affine model is a function of a large number of artificial parameters. Both models are compared regarding their ease of generation, conservatism, accuracy, and applicability.

Inductors with inductance value from 1 to 20nH and quality factor up to 14 for AMS 0.35mum CMOS and AMS 0.8mum BiCMOS SiGe technologies are created. A custom computer-aided-design tool called ASITIC (Analysis and Simulation of Inductors and Transformers for Integrated Circuits) is used for the design, analysis and optimisation. Created in ASITIC structures are optimised and verified with simulations in CADENCE. The influence of quality factor of integrated inductors on the performance of radio frequency (RF) building blocks is investigated.

Process monitoring and fault diagnosis have been studied widely in recent years, and the number of industrial applications with encouraging results has grown rapidly. In the case of complex processes a computeraided monitoring enhances operators possibilities to run the process economically. In this paper a fault diagnosis system will be described and some application results from the Outokumpu Harjavalta smelter will be discussed. This paper presents a novel method for improving the operation autonomy of the processing elements (PE) of SIMD-like machines. By combining guarded instructions and pseudo branches it is possible, to achieve higher operation autonomy and higher instruction level parallelism than in previous SIMD/ASIMD architectures. The paper shows that it is feasible to avoid most branches and it is also possible to emulate conditional execution on the processing elements, either by using guarded instructions or by using pseudo branches, thus avoiding unnecessary intervention by the array, control unit in data-dependant computations. Pseudo branches are used when it is not possible to use guarded instructions. Additionally, they also support the implementation of complex nested if-then-else constructs, improving the execution of irregular data-parallel applications. The paper also shows that the simplicity of the method allows it to be implemented both in fine-grain and coarse-grain SIMD/ASIMD architectures because it does not require significant additional silicon area. Finally, it is shown that pseudo branches can be used to control the power saving of those processing elements that have instructions nullified.
