This paper aims to identify conceptual and practical findings in new modalities of interactions in hospital settings. A Systematic Literature Review was carried out through database research and the snowballing technique. From the review, 46 papers were extracted. The reviewed literature describes the main modalities and technology issues to the medical specialty or hospital department where they are used. Results obtained can help readers identify better solutions for a specific department hospital requiring special conditions. Moreover, we identify that the touchless interface has a relevant contribution since it can be implemented with low-cost technology and provides system user interaction that is more adaptable to the hospital environment's health team activities.

Machine Learning (ML) models have been widely used nowadays, as "magical black boxes", in many different domains and for distinct goals, but the way they generate their results is not fully understood yet, including by knowledgeable users. If users cannot interpret or trust the prediction generated by the model, they will not use it. Furthermore, the human role is often not (properly) considered for the developing of ML systems. In this article, we present a discussion about user centered development of Interactive Machine Learning systems. We ground our discussion on Explain-ML, a multi-perspective human-centered machine learning tool that assists users in the building, refinement and interpretability of ML models. To do so, we have conducted an analysis of the results of the evaulation of Explain-ML with potential users in light of the principles for Interactive ML systems design. Our results contribute to the understanding and consolidation of these principles. Moreover, the experience gained from the discussion about Explain-ML, its user centered development and its evaluation with users, based on these principles, is relevant to the research and development of Interactive ML Tools that involve ML explainability.

Gesture interfaces contribute to touchless interaction in systems inserted in critical hospital environments such as surgery rooms and intensive care units, among other areas where infection care is essential. However, defining a vocabulary of gestures that is adequate to this environment's physical characteristics, the sensors used, and the tasks performed by users while interacting is a challenge for developers. Methodologies and guidelines proposed in the literature to the gestures definition do not consider the characteristics of the critical environment, causing natural and innovative interaction to fail by not meeting the user's need. In this sense, our paper discusses the main challenges imposed by critical environments in gesture interaction development. As a result, we propose a set of recommendations that can contribute to developers of gesture interaction systems. Moreover, our research highlights and promotes a discussion about the need to develop specific methodologies to the critical environment context that supports the definition of gesture vocabulary.

The availability and use of interactive systems have increased considerably. However, evaluating the accessibility and communicability of such systems for a range of users is essential to improve their quality. human-Computer Interaction (HCI) evaluation methods assess different aspects of the system's interaction quality. The Semiotic Inspection Method Mediated by Screen Readers (SIM-SR) emerged as a method based on the Semiotic Inspection Method (SIM), considering the particularities of using screen reader software to mediate the user-system interaction. This paper presents an applicability analysis of SIM-SR and discusses its contribution based on the relevant accessibility and communicability knowledge it generates. Our results show that SIM-SR went beyond identifying accessibility barriers and guideline violations, and led evaluators to take into consideration the impact of accessibility issues on the system's communicability and different levels of communicative breakdowns that visually impaired users could experience during interaction.

Southeast Asia that consists of eleven countries, has been proud of its way of life and rich culture and is generally happy to maintain its long comforting tradition. However, the region cannot deny that its diverse population and strategic location have become a center of attention for global players to invest in the region. With the emergence of Industry 4.0, digital transformation has become mandatory for any organizations or nations in Southeast Asia to consider. Through SEACHI (Southeast Asian CHI) symposium, we aim to grow awareness in HCI and UX to improve the design and development of technology for a living and bring together the Southeast Asian academic researchers and industry practitioners. As HCI is maturing in Asia, we identified the remarkable growth and needs of HCI in the Southeast Asian community. In this symposium, we have several questions that we would like to answer: To what extent the HCI and UX that has been taught and practiced in Southeast Asia met the needs to support the digital transformation initiatives in the region;whether there has been any significant and proper contextualization of the HCI and UX fields;whether HCI and UX are still perceived as a Western mindset instead of a localized approach to make a difference in any projects;whether HCI and UX have become a standard norm in the digital product and design process and how HCI and UX players in Southeast Asia have worked together to create a unique ecosystem. Software varies in the domain and has different target users. Also, it is not possible to predict all users' requirements at the system development stage. This situation sheds light on the need to support end-users to adapt their applications to cope with new demands. End-User Development (EUD) is a research area that intends to permit end-users to perform activities beyond application usage. Such activities may involve software tailoring. Considering this, we aim to map EUD towards supporting software with tailoring capabilities. To achieve this goal, we conducted a literature review using a snowballing procedure on the subject, and we found 42 studies in the time range 1997-2020. We analyzed the topic's development in terms of concepts, methodologies to building tailorable software, tools, and we treat issues and implications of tailorable systems development. Finally, we present future works to research and develop tailorable systems based on gaps and opportunities identified.

This paper explores the extent to which gender bias is introduced in the deployment of automation for hiring practices. We use an interdisciplinary methodology to test our hypotheses: observing a human-led recruitment panel and building an explainable algorithmic prototype from the ground up, to quantify gender bias. The key findings of this study are threefold: identifying potential sources of human bias from a recruitment panel's ranking of CVs;identifying sources of bias from a potential algorithmic pipeline which simulates human decision making;and recommending ways to mitigate bias from both aspects. Our research has provided an innovative research design that combines social science and data science to theorise how automation may introduce bias in hiring practices, and also pinpoint where it is introduced. It also furthers the current scholarship on gender bias in hiring practices by providing key empirical inferences on the factors contributing to bias. © 2022 IEEE.

In the context of increasing car traffic, with significant particularities in EU countries in terms of road infrastructure, advanced driver assistance systems have been developed, based on technical developments in sensors, electronics and information and communication technology. Electronic computing units (ECUs) and microcontroller units process the information received from sensors based on algorithms implemented to synthesize the vehicle's environment in real time. Advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADAS) are integrated, artificial intelligence-based technologies aimed at increasing safety and security for traffic participants. ADAS features aim to reduce/avoid accidents/collisions and reduce the severity of trauma to the personnel involved by providing information to the driver about potentially dangerous situations caused by human error and to improve the quality of driving. human error is one of the most important factors influencing the severity and number of accidents. The technique of automatic transmission and processing of information allows monitoring the driver (for identification and classification of driving style) in relation to a series of criteria that contribute to increasing traffic safety, improving comfort, optimizing fuel consumption, reducing pollution, etc. by generating algorithmically generated warnings. This paper presents the architecture of an intelligent automated vehicle operator traffic monitoring system (SiaMOTO) which, through the intelligent automated vehicle operator traffic monitoring devices (DiaMOTO) it incorporates, actively tracks the behavior of drivers of a target fleet of vehicles and analyses their traffic behavior characteristics. The SiaMOTO/DiaMOTO infrastructure is a special system set up to run AI/DLM/Big Data algorithms through which systematic errors of monitored drivers will be detected and will allow, after complex analyses, to generate preventive warnings. Digital games have become part of the daily life of a large part of the world population, reaching audiences of different ages, genders, and cultures. Games are also becoming an increasingly explored research topic in human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and several studies have sought to deepen the knowledge about players, identifying individual differences. Although the literature is rich in works that typify and classify players, the lack of objective comparisons can make it difficult to adopt such types to support game design or future research. Thus, this research investigates players' taxonomies and typologies regarding their motivations, behavior, and personality characteristics, analyzing how they explore these traits. We conducted a systematic mapping of the literature and analyzed 19 studies that propose or update players' types, observing how they explore the abovementioned traits. The main contribution of this paper is to offer an overview of the identified taxonomies and typologies, comparing them and mapping their attributes and applications. Such knowledge is a tool for designing games and gamified systems and can support game designers to promote engagement and motivation in complementary ways in their games. It also allows researchers and practitioners to compose a multidimensional view of the different players' types.
