To enable a prosperous internet of things, devices and services must be extensible and adapt to changes in the environment or user interaction patterns. These requirements manifest as a set of design principles for each of the layers in an IoT ecosystem, from hardware to cloud services. This paper gives concrete guidelines learned from building a fullstack Synergistic IoT platform.

One of the major issues that must be addressed in the emerging internet of things (IoT) is balancing the needs of security and reasonable installation and maintenance efforts. If the security infrastructure is not relatively easy to use, it will ultimately be compromised. This paper describes the industrial deployment experience of the EZConnect T security infrastructure implemented by BECS Technology, Inc., a firm that provides water chemistry monitoring and control equipment to the aquatics market.

An ecosystem is the expansion of a software product line architecture to include systems outside the product which interact with the product. A cloud ecosystem includes interdependent and communicating components. Not only the cloud ecosystem itself keeps evolving, but it also affects the way in which we develop and deploy software. We model the architecture of a cloud ecosystem as a set of patterns, showing partial descriptions for some of them. We then discuss the role of this evolving platform in facilitating the internet of things and the new DevOps framework for developing software.
