this paper presents the theoretical foundation, mathematical analysis and numerical simulation results of an interconnection between Dual-Active Bridge (DAB) converters applied as Solid-State Transformers (SST) with redundancy. this system enables current and voltage sharing among the converters and the achievement of high reliability as to the power supply. the main contribution of this study is to show an interconnection scheme that allows the construction of a fault-tolerant SST.

In this paper, a bilateral reactive power injection method is proposed for islanding detection of grid-connected converters in distributed generation units. the proposed method injects capacitive and inductive reactive power periodically with half of the grid frequency to perturb the frequency of point of common coupling (PCC). the magnitude of the injected reactive power is derived in order to remove the non-detection zone and the frequency of the injected reactive power is determined by considering parallel operation of the converters with no communication. In addition, the distortion of the currents by the proposed detection method is analyzed. the effectiveness of the proposed method is experimentally verified through the operation of two converters used for a 10kW battery energy storage system.

Failure detection plays a central role in the engineering of distributed systems. Furthermore, many applications have timing constraints and require failure detectors that provide quality of service (QoS) with some quantitative timeliness guarantees. therefore, they need failure detectors that are fast and accurate. We introduce the Two Windows Failure Detector (2W-FD), an algorithm that provides QoS and is able to react to sudden changes in network conditions, a property that currently existing algorithms do not satisfy. We ran tests on real traces and compared the 2W-FD to state-of-the-art algorithms. Our results show that our algorithm presents the best performance in terms of speed and accuracy in unstable scenarios.

paralleled grid-connected inverters with LCL-filters are coupled through the non-negligible grid impedance. However, the coupling effects among inverters and grid are usually ignored during the design, which may lead to unexpected system resonance and even instability. this paper thus investigates the resonance characteristic and stability analysis in multi-paralleled grid-connected inverters with LCL-filters. An intuitive analytical method based on equivalent grid impedance has been proposed. the analysis clearly describes the open loop resonance characteristic and provides a relatively easy method to define the stable region of multi-inverters system. Experimental results are provided for verifying the theoretical analysis.

this paper proposes a high performance deadbeat-type current controller for inverter-interfaced distributed generation (DG), with a simple design procedure, desirable control performance and ease of digital implementation. the control law of proposed deadbeat-type current controller has the same form as the conventional deadbeat controller. However, instead of directly inverting the controlled plant model, the polynomial coefficients of each variable in the deadbeat control law (the reference current, the output current and the grid voltage) are designed to satisfy the two design criteria: (1) the poles of the closed-loop system are all at the origin;(2) the gain of the disturbance input is minimized. the performance of the proposed controller is demonstrated with an example, and the controller is proven to be robust against plant parameter variation. the comparison between the proposed deadbeat-type controller and a well-tuned conventional double-loop controller shows significant improvement of the former in both steady-state and dynamic performance. the proposed deadbeat-type controller is implemented and tested in a Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platform and the experimental results validate the excellent control performance of the proposed controller and also its pratical feasibility.

this paper proposes a dual three-leg voltage source inverter (VSI) based distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) to compensate unbalanced and nonlinear loads in threephase four-wire distribution systems. the proposed topology uses two three-leg inverters having common dc-link with single dc capacitor and an additional small capacitor connected from the negative terminal of VSI to the system neutral. the proposed scheme with associated control algorithm has the capability to compensate unbalanced nonlinear load and hence makes source current as balanced sinusoidal and at desired power factor. the control algorithm also ensures the proper sharing of reactive, harmonics and unbalance powers between two VSIs and controls the grid current total harmonic distortion (thD) level. the performance of the proposed scheme has been verified using simulation and experimental studies and results are presented.

Multiple proportional-resonance (MPR) AC current regulator is widely applied in inverter-interfaced distributed generation (DG) systems for selective grid harmonic and unbalance current compensation due to its effectiveness (i.e. desirable stability and dynamic response) and ease of implementation. However, the parallel MPR controllers interact with each other and create unwanted couplings, which degrades the system's stability and control performance (i.e. tracking). In the literature, most of research works only consider tuning of the control parameters for fundamental current, while few studies are dedicated to the tuning of control parameters for harmonic proportional resonance (PR) controllers and the interactive influences among them are not fully taken into account. therefore, it is necessary to tune the control parameters for each individual PR controller in a systematic way such that the stability (phase margin) of the whole control system is guaranteed, and at the same time the tracking performance for each individual controller is achieved. In this paper three systematic parameter tuning approaches for MPR current regulator are analyzed and one is identified as optimal practical solution.

With the reliability requirement increasingly important, RAID-6, which can tolerate any two concurrent disk failures, has been widely used in various storage systems. One class of typical RAID-6 implementations is to use Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) erasure codes. However, most existing RAID-6 MDS codes suffer from unbalanced I/O or high I/O cost, and cannot provide satisfied read performance on both normal mode and degraded mode. All these metrics are important in modern storage systems. In this paper, we propose a new RAID-6 MDS code termed D-Code to address these problems. D-Code uses a new kind of horizontal parities to increase the possibility of continuous data elements sharing the common parities in order to provide low I/O cost and good degraded read performance, while uses deployment parities to assure all parities can be evenly distributed in the last two rows in order to achieve good load balancing and good normal read performance. Our evaluations and experiments show that D-Code not only provides good load balancing and low I/O cost under different workloads, but also achieves good performance on both normal reads and degraded reads. E.g., D-Code achieves up to 21.3% and 13.5% higher read speed than RDP code and H-Code in normal mode, while gains up to 26.0% higher read speed than X-Code in degraded mode.

this work presents Workload Partitioning and Scheduling (WPS), a novel algorithm for evenly partitioning the computational workload of large implicitly-defined worklist-based applications on distributed/shared-memory systems. In WPS, a stratified sampling technique estimates the number of work items that will be processed in each step of the target application. then WPS uses this estimation to evenly partition and distribute the computational workload. An empirical evaluation on large applications - Iterative-Deepening A* (IDA*) applied to (4x4)- and (5x5) - Sliding-Tile Puzzles, Delaunay Mesh Generation, and Delaunay Mesh Refinement - shows that WPS is applicable to a range of applications. A coordination between WPS and existing work-stealing schedulers for intranode load balancing yields additional speedups in the range of 18% to 40% compared to that achieved with the existing work-stealing schedulers alone. Such a coordination also outperforms an existing workload-partitioning scheme intended specifically for IDA* algorithms by 17% to 36%.

For cascaded systems, interactions among individually designed power subsystems may cause the instability of the whole system. Regulating the input impedance of the load converter is an effectively way to solve this problem, however, one big challenge of this method is how to consider the stability of cascaded system and the dynamic performance of load converter together. In light of this, this paper proposes a parallel-virtual-impedance (PVI) control strategy to improve the input impedance of the load converter. the proposed virtual impedance is in parallel with the load converter, via the proposed virtual impedances, the magnitude and phase of the input impedance of the load converter is modi ed only in a small range of frequency. As a result, this method not only solves the instability problem of the cascaded system, but also keeps a good dynamic performance for load converter. this paper discusses the concept, realization and design consideration of the proposed strategy in detail. Finally, a 100 W cascaded system, which consisting of an LC lter and a 48V-12V buck converter, is built to verify the correctness of the proposed methods(1).
