this paper proposes a high performance deadbeat-type current controller for inverter-interfaced distributed generation (DG), with a simple design procedure, desirable control performance and ease of digital implementation. the control law of proposed deadbeat-type current controller has the same form as the conventional deadbeat controller. However, instead of directly inverting the controlled plant model, the polynomial coefficients of each variable in the deadbeat control law (the reference current, the output current and the grid voltage) are designed to satisfy the two design criteria: (1) the poles of the closed-loop system are all at the origin; (2) the gain of the disturbance input is minimized. the performance of the proposed controller is demonstrated with an example, and the controller is proven to be robust against plant parameter variation. the comparison between the proposed deadbeat-type controller and a well-tuned conventional double-loop controller shows significant improvement of the former in both steady-state and dynamic performance. the proposed deadbeat-type controller is implemented and tested in a Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platform and the experimental results validate the excellent control performance of the proposed controller and also its pratical feasibility.

the main objective of this work consists in analyzing sub-structuring method for the parallel solution of sparse linear systems with matrices arising from the discretization of partial differential equations such as finite element, finite volume and finite difference. With the success encountered by the general-purpose processing on graphics processing units (GPGPU), we develop an hybrid multiGPUs and CPUs sub-structuring algorithm. GPU computing, with CUDA, is used to accelerate the operations performed on each processor. Numerical experiments have been performed on a set of matrices arising from engineering problems. We compare C+MPI implementation on classical CPU cluster with C+MPI+CUDA on a cluster of GPU. the performance comparison shows a speed-up for the sub-structuring method up to 19 times in double precision by using CUDA.

Modern large-scale distributed storage systems utilize erasure codes to store only cold data, i.e., rarely access data such as click logs. However, a major portion of the data that is currently used for large-scale processing is hot data, data that are frequently accessed, in some cases by many users or system processes simultaneously. When storing hot data, replication seems to be the option of choice for redundancy due to a very desirable property: a single information symbol can be accessed in parallel as many times as the number of available replicas. this is sometimes referred to as higher data availability. However, the rate of a replication scheme vanishes as we increase its availability or replication factor. this paper describes erasure codes that have arbitrarily high rate while allowing for high availability. In particular, these codes enable reconstruction of each information symbol from t disjoint groups of other code symbols, each of size at most r. this paper further shows that these codes attain a trade-off between minimum distance, availability and locality.

In this paper, the authors propose an analysis of the frequency response function in a car compartment, subject to some fluctuating pressure distribution along the open cavity of the sun-roof at the top of a car. Coupling of a computational fluid dynamics and of a computational acoustics code is considered to simulate the acoustic fluid-structure interaction problem. Iterative Krylov methods and domain decomposition methods, tuned on Graphic processing Unit (GPU), are considered to solve the acoustic problem with complex number arithmetics with double precision. Numerical simulations illustrate the efficiency, robustness and accuracy of the proposed approaches.

Specialized encryption processors offer both low latency and high throughput at the expense of higher cost. A modern x86 system that encompasses several compute architectures (SISD/SIMD) might be able to perform well compared to a dedicated encryption unit at the fraction of the cost. this paper presents how one might accelerate AES ECB 128 bit using modern commodity hardware found in today's x86 computers. Focus architecture is AMD A6 5400K, coupled with a discrete GPU AMD R7 250. Benchmark results compare CPU OpenSSL execution, CPU AES-NI acceleration, integrated, discrete GPU and heterogeneous combinations of the above processing units. We present multiple test results and attempt to explain some inconsistencies of what would be expected.

Hadoop distributed File System (HDFS) is the core component of Apache Hadoop project. In HDFS, the computation is carried out in the nodes where relevant data is stored. Hadoop also implemented a parallel computational paradigm named as Map-Reduce. In this paper, we have measured the performance of read and write operations in HDFS by considering small and large files. For performance evaluation, we have used a Hadoop cluster with five nodes. the results indicate that HDFS performs well for the files with the size greater than the default block size and performs poorly for the files with the size less than the default block size.

MapReduce is a distributed parallel computing framework for large-scale data processing with extensive applications. Hadoop MapReduce is the most widely employed open-source implementation of MapReduce framework for its flexible customization and simple usage. To avoid the relatively slow running task, called a straggler task, slowing down the job, MapReduce speculatively backups the straggler task on another node to execute aiming to reduce the job's finish time. Although there have been many speculative execution strategies in heterogeneous environments, they all do not consider the impact of dynamic system load on the running time of tasks. they may make mistakes in determining stragglers. In our paper, we propose a novel speculative execution strategy in heterogeneous environments, ERUL, to improve the estimation of tasks' rest time. ERUL also overcomes some drawbacks of LATE that mislead the speculative execution in some cases. the experimental result indicates that, our Hadoop-ERUL strategy not only works more accurately in the estimation of running tasks' remaining execution time, but also reduces 26% job's running time compared to Hadoop-LATE.

We present a new method for mapping applications' MPI tasks to cores of a parallel computer such that communication and execution time are reduced. We consider the case of sparse node allocation within a parallel machine, where the nodes assigned to a job are not necessarily located within a contiguous block nor within close proximity to each other in the network. the goal is to assign tasks to cores so that interdependent tasks are performed by "nearby" cores, thus lowering the distance messages must travel, the amount of congestion in the network, and the overall cost of communication. Our new method applies a geometric partitioning algorithm to both the tasks and the processors, and assigns task parts to the corresponding processor parts. We show that, for the structured finite difference mini-app MiniGhost, our mapping method reduced execution time 34% on average on 65,536 cores of a Cray XE6. In a molecular dynamics mini-app, MiniMD, our mapping method reduced communication time by 26% on average on 6144 cores. We also compare our mapping with graph-based mappings from the LibTopoMap library and show that our mappings reduced the communication time on average by 15% in MiniGhost and 10% in MiniMD.

distributed storage systems have greatly evolved due to cloud computing upsurge in the past several years. the distributed file systems inherit many components from centralized ones and use them in a distributed manner. there are two ways to grow the storage capacity: by scaling-up or by scaling-out and growing the number of storage devices in a storage system. the growth of storage devices impose many challenges related to interconnection protocols and topologies, error handling, data consistency, security and so on. In this article we have studied how distributed and parallel storages have evolved from direct connected storages in terms of architecture, data management and organization and how the new challenges imposed by data distribution have been solved. We have selected for studying several of the most representative distributed storages solutions: Andrew File System, Google File System, General parallel File System, Lustre and Ceph. First, we emphasize how a generic distributed storage layout has inspired from structured disk layout (Berkeley Fast File System). Second, we describe the evolution path of distributed storages from a wide variety of perspectives, including: distributed units which are moving from blocks to objects due to their undeniable advantages or distribution methods that have evolved from lists much like inode mapping to deterministic hash functions like RUSH or CRUSH. third, the networks are evolving very fast in terms of topologies and protocols. Using graph theory, researchers are continuously improving different aspects of cluster networks. Fourth, storage security is a critical component due to the demand of storing sensitive data for long term, sharing it in a secure way and impacting as little as possible the system performance.

We propose a new fault-tolerant (self-stabilizing) distributed framework for the publish/subscribe scheme in a P2P network, where the participating nodes (peers) only need the state information of its immediate neighbors. the proposed system is guaranteed to recover from an unlimited number of transient faults (e.g., state corruption). We provide a complexity analysis of the recovery (stabilization) time of the system after arbitrary failures in the network. Also, we show that the system always remains alive and starvation free. Nodes can form multiple logical layers depending on the topics of interest;the framework provides flexibility to dynamically configure the layers to provide time space tradeoff.
