Current programming languages and software engineering paradigms are proving insufficient for building intelligent multi-agentsystems-such as interactive games and narratives-where developers are called upon to write increasingly complex behavior for agents in dynamic environments. A promising solution is to build adaptive systems;that is, to develop software written specifically to adapt to its environment by changing its behavior in response to what it observes in the world. In this paper we describe a new programming language, An Adaptive Behavior Language (A(2)BL), that implements adaptive programming primitives to support partial programming, a paradigm in which a programmer need only specify the details of behavior known at code-writing time, leaving the run-time system to learn the rest. Partial programming enables programmers to more easily encode software agents that are difficult to write in existing languages that do not offer language-level support for adaptivity. We motivate the use of partial programming with an example agent coded in a cutting-edge, but non-adaptive agentprogramming language (ABL), and show how A(2)BL can encode the same agent much more naturally.

The asynchronous searching techniques are characterized by the fact that each agent instantiates its variables in a concurrent way. Then, it sends the values of its variables to other agents directly connected to it by using messages. These asynchronous techniques have different behaviors in the case of delays in sending messages. This article presents the opportunity for synchronizing the execution of agents in the case of asynchronous techniques. It investigates and compares the behaviors of several asynchronous techniques in two cases: agents process the received messages asynchronously (the real situation) and the synchronous case, when a synchronization of the execution of agents is done, i.e. the agents perform a computing cycle in which they process a message from a message queue. After that, the synchronization is done by waiting for the other agents to finalize the processing of their messages. The experiments show that the synchronization of the agents execution leads to lower costs in searching for solutions. A solution for synchronizing the agents execution is suggested for the analyzed asynchronous techniques.

The main propose of this project is to design a multi-agent system platform on a flexible manufacturing cell (FMC). Taking into consideration all levels of functional issues, cellular architecture, standardization, and technical configurations, we take advantage of features released on a graphical programming commercial software, such as object oriented programming, distributed intelligence, and block function representation. The approach is addressed to encourage the usage of holonic and multiagent concepts in traditional manufacturing systems, with friendly software based upgrade and a minimum low cost hardware expansion. The intention is to develop a system that will fit into different levels of an enterprise, including shop-floor and manufacturing execution systems, and simultaneously we will deal with technological migration from conventional manufacturing structure to a holonic-ready FMC.
In repeated games with incomplete information, rational agents must carefully weigh the tradeoffs of advantageously exploiting their information to achieve a short-term gain versus carefully concealing their informati...
