A novel systematic algorithm for the dynamic reconfiguration of the distribution network was proposed based on multi-agent system in this paper. In which, one day was divided into several time intervals and each was managed by a work agent. An improved hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm was applied in each time interval to produce a solution set which included some enough good solutions. Then the coordination agent would select a solution from each work agent's solution set, and coordinate them until the number constraint of switching operations was satisfied. The whole architecture of the multi-agent system was presented, and the function modules of the work agent and coordination agent were also discussed. Computer simulations were conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

agent-oriented methodologies are paving the way towards the adoption of agent technology in software industry. However, there are still several issues to address: testing mechanisms, specialized verification methods, a formally defined agent oriented development process, illustrative case studies, or better development tools. This should be considered in a changing context because of innovations in related areas, which are integrated in the agent paradigm. In this paper, we show a coordinated approach to address these needs in the context of a research project, INGENIAS. The purpose of this project is to contribute to the agent-oriented software engineering field by providing, on the basis of a well specified software development process, an open multi-agent systems (MAS) development framework that integrates methods, techniques and tools. The paper will show problems we face in the projects and the solutions we adopt for them.

针对多agent自动协商中所存在的协商时间长、复杂性高、协商结果无法保证等问题,文中提出了一个基于Pareto最优解的改进遗传算法。该算法在评价函数、种群规模与分布、交叉和变异操作等方面都对传统遗传算法进行了改进,以提高具有高维度多agent自动协商中算法的性能和效率。通过买卖agent之间的多对多自动协商典型算例表明,这种算法在保证不同利益群体agent之间协商取得Pareto最优解的稳定性和使得协商参与者达到协同进化等方面都具有明显的优势。

Traditional particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is combined with multi-agent system (MAS), so the particles are upgraded to intelligent agents, which are more autonomous and smart. Secondly, Evolutionary programming (EP) is integrated into agents to improve the search capability of standard PSO particles by altering their intrinsic tendency of moving to global best position. Thirdly, an adaptive mechanism is proposed to lessen Vmax's impact over algorithm performance, so that the algorithm becomes more feasible. Finally, the enhanced algorithm is applied in the optimization problem of complex functions of high dimension and satisfied results are achieved.

As open multi-agents systems are getting increasing attentions in building large-scale software systems, the study on agent organizations - a building block of multi-agents systems, becomes a promising research track. Roles as a first class citizen in agent organizations impose an imperious demand for dealing with the major challenge: how agents bind roles in the formation of agent organizations in which agents can dynamically enter or leave the organizations. This challenge can be further decomposed into four issues: how to discover agents distributed over various organizations, how to select reliable agents to bind roles, how to enable agents to cooperate in roles binding, and how to unbind roles as agents leave an organization. The focus of this paper is on an extension to Contract Net protocol with reputation model to address these four issues related to the life cycle of dynamic role binding, called agent-centric contract net protocol (ACNP), as a negotiation mechanism that agents can adopt to establish agent organizations at run time through roles binding.

"agents and Artifacts" (A&A) and CARTAGO are becoming increasingly popular as, respectively, a general-purpose programming model and a related infrastructure for developing shared computational environments in agent-based software systems. However, so far there has been no work on developing multiagent systems (MAS) where agents implemented and deployed in different agent-programming platforms can interact as part of the same MAS with a shared environment. Due to the generality of CARTAGO environments and its Java-based implementation, we have successfully implemented an open multi-agent system where heterogeneous agents developed with different platforms---namely Jason, 2APL as BDI-based approaches and simpA as an activity-oriented approach rather than BDI-based---work together in shared workspaces where they interact and cooperate by dynamically creating and using shared artifacts, analogously to human working environments. This paper shows how this was achieved by first presenting a general model for incorporating a theory of use and observation of artifacts in cognitive agents, then describing a general approach for developing such heterogeneous MAS using CARTAGO integrated with existing agent-oriented programming platforms.

Logic programming update languages were proposed as an extension of logic programming, which allow for modelling the dynamics of knowledge bases where both extensional knowledge (facts) as well as intentional knowledge (rules) may change over time due to updates, with important application multi-agent systems (MAS). Despite their generality, these languages do not provide means to directly access past states of the evolving knowledge. They only allow for so-called Markovian changes i.e. changes determined entirely by the current state. This is a drawback in several situation. In this paper, after motivating the need for non-Markovian changes, we extend EVOLP - The logic programming update language at the heart of an existing MAS - with LTL-like temporal operators that allow referring to the history of the evolving agent. We then show that with a suitable introduction of new propositional variables it is possible to embed the extended EVOLP into the original one, thus demonstrating that EVOLP itself can already be used for non-Markovian changes. While showing how to use EVOLP for encoding non-Markovian changes, this embedding sheds light into the relationship between logic programming update languages and modal temporal logics, of particular importance in MAS.

There is an increasing demand for multi-agent systems (MAS) in the software industry. In order to bring MAS to the main stream of commercial software development, the behavior of MAS must be monitored and verified against the risk of unwanted emergent behaviors including deadlocks. In this paper, we introduce a methodology for efficient monitoring of MAS to detect resource and communication deadlocks. In this methodology, we construct a behavioral model of a MAS under analysis and use it for deadlock detection. The behavioral models are in the form of UML 2.0 sequence diagrams which are built from the modeling artifacts of the multi-agent Software Engineering (MaSE) methodology. To detect MAS deadlocks at runtime based on UML sequence diagrams, we adapt and refine existing resource and communication deadlock detection techniques to the context of MAS. A monitoring scenario example of our methodology is presented.

Reactive power optimization of power system is a dispersed, many variables, many restraint and non-linearly combination optimization problem, so it is very difficult to find optimum solving in theory. This paper combines multi-agent theory and MSM-PGA (Master-Slave Model Parallel Genetic Algorithm) together, form one MSM-PGA multi-agent union. This union solves the problem of reactive power optimization of power system by the coordination between many agents inside the union. In this paper, the introduction of multi-agent theory, make the master course and slave course of MSM-PGA to be made of agent, so the ability of communication and coordination raise greatly; And compared with other algorithm, using this MSM-PGA based on multi-agent to solve the problem of reactive power optimization of power system has rapid computer speed and high precision, and can obtain the more excellent solve than other algorithm.

The main propose of this project is to design a multi-agent system platform on a Flexible Manufacturing Cell (FMC). Taking into consideration all levels of functional issues, cellular architecture, standardization, and technical configurations, we take advantage of features released on a graphical programming commercial software, such as object oriented programming, distributed intelligence, and block function representation. The approach is addressed to encourage the usage of holonic and multiagent concepts in traditional manufacturing systems, with friendly software based upgrade and a minimum low cost hardware expansion. The intention is to develop a system that will fit into different levels of an enterprise, including shop-floor and manufacturing execution systems, and simultaneously we will deal with technological migration from conventional manufacturing structure to a holonic-ready FMC. © Copyright 2010 IEEE - All Rights Reserved.
