Data mining researches focus on algorithms that mine valuable patterns from particular domain. Apart from the theoretical research, experiments take a vast amount of effort to build. In this paper, we propose an integrated framework that utilises a multi-agent system to support the researchers to rapidly develop experiments. Moreover, the proposed framework allows extension and integration for future researches in mutual aspects of agent and data mining. The paper describes the details of the framework and also presents a sample implementation.

The agent-based model provides for an extremely flexible representation of heterogeneous decision makers, who are potentially influenced by interactions with other agents and with their natural environment. CORMAS software, which is a programming environment dedicated to creating multi-agent systems, with a focus on the domain of natural resources management, is used for modeling of land use change of Changshu in eastern China. Decision behaviors of different actors, for example, land surveyor, planning persons, land development and investment persons, are considered in this model, and gave different quantity weight. Planning persons is given 0.6 weight, land surveyor 0.3, land development and investment persons 0.1, according to the inquiry from local authority. Land use change process which is affected by spatial entity objects (natural system) and different decision persons (human system) is simulated. The simulated results really reflected the dynamic change process of land use of Changshu, in eastern China by continuously adjusting and optimizing the model parameters. On the basis of this, the future dynamic trend of the land use change can be predicted, and decision reference can be provided for some department.

Educational robotics has long been proved an effective tool to enhance teaching effectiveness in scientific fields such as mathematics, physics, engineering, and computer science. Teachers working in a robotics classroom, however, face difficulty in the identification of the needs for proper interventions to the studentspsila learning processes. To tackle this problem, we proposed and implemented an agency architecture which uses software agents to monitor the student activities and robot movements. The implementation is multi-agent based and distributed across a network of student terminals as well as the teacher terminal. As a result, both promising prospects and limitations are revealed in this implementation.

Wide-area surveillance networks of diverse sensors present unique challenges for processing the massive amount of data generated. This paper presents a general, flexible computing infrastructure based on free and open-source software components to tackle the problem of quasi-realtime processing of time-sensitive surveillance data. The integration of NIST's SmartFlow system enables the transport of data to a Rocks-based cluster of computers for more CPU-intensive computations. Services, metadata, and events are made available to the network via a central server called the Blackboard. This allows application programmers to access the raw sensor data within a user-settable time-to-live. A general processing framework based on Trolltech's Qt4 signal and slot mechanism hides the complexity of multi-threaded programming and enables users to fully exploit the potential of the SMP machines in the cluster. Case studies are presented for an independent agent detector that uses multiple cameras as well as scalability results and for the processing of massively multi-channel audio data from a microphone array to achieve e.g. sound-source location in near-realtime.

This paper proposes to investigate the performance of a path planning controller for a search-classify mission using multiple cooperative underwater vehicles. We present a control strategy for multi-agent cooperative systems, namely the Grid-based multi-Objective Optimal Problem (GMOOP) solving technique, to find the optimal solutions for a search-classify mission using an action determination map subject to certain constraints and objectives. This technique is based on an Interval programming (IvP) algorithm introduced in for representing and optimizing over multiple competing objective functions. We made improvements in this GMOOP technique to suit the harsh underwater acoustic communication environment by taking advantages of the Location-Aware Source Routing (LASR) protocol for underwater Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). Preliminary simulation trials based on two simplified scenarios have been carried out. Results show that the demanded cooperative search task could be finished satisfactorily under harsh acoustic constraints, and the performance of the GMOOP model are studied in various aspects.

Situated multi-agents systems (MAS), and other agent-based systems, are often complex. Formal reasoning is needed to ensure their correctness and structure their development. Event-B is a formal method with tool support allowing a stepwise development of reactive distributed systems. We propose using Event-B to helpful the specification and the safe development of situated MAS. In this article, we mainly report our experience with the Event-B stepwise development of a situated MAS which study the movement of vehicles in a convoy. This article also aims at serving as a guide for the development of other MAS, taking agents-specific features into account.

This paper describes a multimedia content broadcast system implemented using multi-agent technology. Content is delivered to a content distribution platform from where it is distributed via satellite to cars. In the system, a file based distribution mechanism has been chosen in contrast to streaming. This allows, on the mobile receiver side, playing the content whenever and wherever and how often the user wants. Originally, the content playout centre, which is in the focus of this paper, has been implemented using a proprietary middleware. The progress in agent platforms such a JADE and more recently Jason made it interesting to study this new programming paradigm in more detail. The objective of the paper is to describe the agent based software architecture of the Satellite Content Distribution Platform, its implementation and the first outcomes of the study.

Resource availability in pervasive environments is restricted by many either mobility- and/or security-related factors. multi-agent systems deployed in such environments would have to rely on a potentially low number of hosts allowing and supporting the arrival and execution of foreign code. To address this issue, this paper proposes to decouple interaction of executing programs and services from the actual software mobility pattern used to realize this interaction. The proposed system (MoDeS - Mobility Decision System) dynamically decides on the best mobility method to implement a series of software interactions while satisfying the appropriate software constraints. The system takes as input an interaction plan and produces the corresponding mobility plan. A series of simulations were performed on single- and multi-hop scenarios which showed that MoDeS can significantly increase the availability of software interactions even in highly constraint environments.

This paper address a multi-agent approach using the behavior of honey bee to find out an optimal customer-campaign relationship under certain restrictions for the problem of multiple campaigns assignment. This NP-hard problem is one of the key issues in marketing when producing the optimal campaign. In personalized marketing it is very important to optimize the customer satisfaction and targeting efficiency. Using the behavior of honey bee a multi-agent approach is proposed to overcome the multiple recommendations problem that occur when several personalized campaigns conducting simultaneously. We measure the effectiveness of the propose method with two other methods known as RANDOM and INDEPENDENT using an artificially created customer-campaign preference matrix. Further a generalized Gaussian response suppression function is introduced and it differs among customer classes. An extensive simulation studies are carried out varying on the small to large scale of the customer-campaign assignment matrix and the percentage of recommendations. Computational result of the proposed method shows a clear edge vis-a-vis RANDOM and INDEPENDENT.

Forming effective coalitions is a major research challenge in the field of multi-agent systems. Central to this endeavour is the problem of partitioning the set of agents into exhaustive and disjoint coalitions such that the social welfare is maximized. This coalition structure generation problem is extremely challenging due to the exponential number of partitions that need to be examined. Specifically, given n agents, there are O(nn) possible partitions. To date, the only algorithm that can find an optimal solution in O(3n) is the Dynamic programming (DP) algorithm, due to Rothkopf et al. However, one of the main limitations of DP is that it requires a significant amount of memory. In this paper, we devise an Improved Dynamic programming algorithm (IDP) that is proved to perform fewer operations than DP (e.g. 38.7% of the operations given 25 agents), and is shown to use only 33.3% of the memory in the best case, and 66.6% in the worst.
