Convergence measurements are an essential part of monitoring methods in underground openings. They also provide important information about the mechanical behaviour of the rock mass in the framework of site *** shafts a more accurate estimation of the deformation behaviour of the rock mass is possible because of the symmetric geometry and their location within the shaft safety *** of convergence measurements with their evaluation and interpretation are presented through the example of two shafts in salt rock,considering the geological *** expected,an increase of convergence with depth can be observed *** a significant dependency of the deformation behaviour on the stratigraphic age of the rock layers is *** information can be obtained by calculating the absolute displacements of the convergence measuring *** practice enables the identification of special geological situations with their influences on deformation size and deformation direction.

According to the analysis,there are five types of deformation failure of the slopes along the road which are shallow freeze-thaw creeping of gravel soil slopes in plateau meadow area,cracking of soft rock high slopes by weathering and freeze-thaw cycling,freeze-thaw slump along the planes of consequent rock slopes, freeze-thaw collapse of big colluvial gravel slopes and freeze-thaw slide along basal rock of residual gravel soil ***,water draining,SNS flexible protection net,concrete insert repair,anchored retaining wall or concrete pier,root pile and anti-sliding pile are selected to treat these deformation failures based on different situation.

Frequency fractal feature of microseismic events in the process of immediate rockburst in deep tunnel

In order to research microseismic (MS) activity rules in the process of rockburst in deep tunnel, the immediate rockburst induced by TBM and D&B excavation are measured in the field. The attention law of microseismic waveform shows that frequency is a better parameter to reflect the real feature of microseismic source. Then, a calculated method of the main frequency of MS event and its fractal dimension is introduced. The study on the evolution of fractal dimension of the main frequency in the process of immediate rockbursts shows that the distribution of main frequency of MS events is a fractal and has statistical self-similarity. Immediate rockburst induced by different excavation method has different precursory. The lowest fractal dimension of main frequency occurred on the day before major rockburst in the TBM tunnel. But in the D&B tunnel, the fractal dimension gets lowest on the right day of major rockburst. These results can provide references for warning and mechanism study of rockburst in deep tunnel.

Accurate measurement of aperture distribution plays an important role in evaluating the hydraulic behavior of rock *** this paper,the authors are devoted to the assessment of two methods,proposed by Brown and Wang respectively,for quantitative measurement of fracture aperture *** principles of the two methods are outlined *** groups of artificial marble fracture specimens are prepared and the surface topography data are obtained by a 3D laser scanning *** based on the surface topography data,each method is adopted to calculate the aperture *** mean apertures of fracture specimens are obtained by conducting statistic analysis on the aperture *** hydraulic head flow tests on ftacture specimens are also performed for inversion calculation of the hydraulic *** between the mean aperture and hydraulic aperture of fracture specimens are provided to assess the applicability and accuracy of the two methods for quantitative aperture measurement.

Structural geology(a branch of geology aiming at describing the structures -joints,faults,folds, etc.- at various scales) can be used in the field of rock mechanics and rock engineering,and particularly in underground engineering works(tunnelling and rock caverns) to gather more reliable data for empirical stability analyses and deterministic calculation *** of structural geology are presented and their applications in rock mechanics/rock engineering are highlighted in particular through the observation of faults and joints *** geology allows a better understanding of the origin,the chronology and the mechanical behaviour of discontinuities,and therefore a more accurate rock mass characterization and rock mass classification, as well as a validation of the actual stress *** selected from different countries of using structural models are also given with emphasize on the necessity and the way to build a 3D model at each stage of an underground project,from site selection to investigation and construction,to ensure the quality and validity of rock mechanical data and assumptions.

As the engineering background of the shallow-buried coal seam under thin base rock in western coal mine,using two dimension discrete element numerical analysis software UDEC,the exploitation process of working face was simulated,the rule,which including roof movement has some abruptness and interconnectivity, surface subsidence exhibits fault zone as zigzag n surface,was summarized and analyzed,and was found to be in agreement with the *** this basis,some secondary disaster and loss were effectively avoided by adoption of a series of technical measures,some foundation was provided for seam mining under the similar condition.

Study on long-term permeability evolution of Beishan granite fracture under groundwater seepage

Seepage tests under constant triaxial compression stresses were conducted on single granite fractures selected from Beishan with the groundwater in Beishan site as the seepage fluid. Ion concentrations of Al3+ and SiO2 in the exit solution were measured during the seepage tests, and the results were compared with those in the groundwater before test. The mineral morphologies of fracture surfaces before and after test were also examined through SEM scanning. Test results show that there are no obvious variations of SiO2 and Al3+ in the outlet solution during the process of seepage test, while the concentrations of K+ and Na+ increase dramatically and Ca2+ decreases evidently. SEM scanning of the fracture surface also shows that superficial calcification and precipitation occur after the seepage of groundwater. Comprehensive analyses of tests results show that for permanent HLW repository, the long-term effects of groundwater on rock fracture permeability can't be ignored.
