The process of fluid flow in rock fractures involves complicated dynamical behavior of fluids, and its modeling is a challenge to numerical *** this paper,the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH),a particle method based on Lagrangian formulation,is employed to simulate the fluid flow in rock fractures by solving the Navier-Stokes equations ***,the SPH method and the boundary treatment method used in this simulation were introduced and the computer code of SPH was developed and validated by a series of numerical benchmark tests with analytical *** simulations were carried out to investigate the fluid flow both in single fractures and intersected fractures,with and without considering effects of surface *** results of the simulations are discussed and compared with the analytical solution by using the Cubic law derived from the Reynolds *** results show that in both of rough single fractures and fracture intersections,although the relationship between mean velocity and the Reynolds number is still linear, the solutions by using Cubic law overestimated the mean fluid velocity with increasing the Reynolds number, indicating possible underestimate of travel time of mass transport in the fracture network models.

One of safety problems caused by blasts is the dynamic tensile fracture in underground mines. Theoretically,a tensile stress wave from a free surface is the major reason for such dynamic *** confirm this,the paper presents a single shot and production blast tests in LKAB Malmberget *** result from the single shot indicates that when a free surface is 8.9 m far from the nearest charge position,the surface is still seriously destroyed,even though it is a decoupled *** full charged blastholes,as the free surface is 20 m away from the nearest charge,the spalling is also ***,as the delay time was increased from 10 to 30 ms,spalling in the roof disappears,indicating the rock fracture in the roof is *** field investigation indicated that(1) rock fall from the roof of a drift after blasting happened not only close to a blasthole but also far from it;(2) eyebrow break caused by tensile fracture is a common phenomenon in sublevel ***, the paper introduces some measures to reduce the tensile rock fracture caused by blasts in underground mining.

Basing on Huolangyu tunnel,the authors use the finite software MADIS-GTS to analyze stress field,displacement field,and plastic zone distribution of the surrounding rock under tunnel entrance excavation. They also study stress distribution rules of unsymmetrical pressure section with backfilled *** a comparative analysis of the monitoring data,the authors define the key controlled zones of rock unsymmetrical deformation and stress concentration,they advise some effective measures to avoid partial tunnel destruction. Through monitoring the blasting vibration on key controlled zones,the authors analyze the correlation between blasting vibration effect and blasting condition,they put forward the blasting vibration control technology,such as stress improvement of surrounding rock,the multi-stage small wedge cutting holes,reasonable holes design, information-based construction,optimized blasting *** methods will ensure the excavation safety in shallow buried tunnel under unsymmetrical pressure.

The Morsleben repository for low-level and medium-level radioactive waste was established in the old Bartensleben salt and potash mine where several parts,*** southern,eastern,and western part, were partially used for the disposal of *** analyse the integrity of the salt barrier in the southern,eastern and western parts in terms of stresses and dilatancy of the salt rock,numerous geomechanical finite-element calculations were performed taking into account the specific geological situation and mining geometry,as well as location-specific material *** barrier integrity at each location was evaluated considering two *** first criterion is related to dilatancy of rock salt:the integrity is guaranteed if rock stresses do not exceed the dilatancy *** second criterion is related to fluid pressure:the integrity is guaranteed if the hydrostatic pressure of an assumed fluid column extending to the surface does not exceed the minimum principal stress at a certain location in the salt *** results of the investigations are the basis for evaluating the integrity of the salt barrier for an assumed time period of up to 10,000 years.

Comparative study of shear strength models for fault-slip analysis

This paper presents an application of two shear strength models,namely Barton's shear strength model and modified Ladanyi and Archambault's model,to dynamic modelling of fault-slip that occurs in deep underground ***,incorporating the shear strength models into FLAC3D as ubiquitous joint models using plastic flow rule is ***,in order to compare the newly incorporated shear strength models with the classical Mohr-Coulomb model,static and dynamic analyses are carried out for a case study of a primary fault that is parallel to a steeply dipping tabular ore deposit,which is mined out by sublevel stoping *** comparison shows that seismic moment and energy released during the fault-slip computed for the newly implemented shear strength models are much greater than those for Mohr-Coulomb *** result implies that faults with undulating surfaces could lead to large seismic events and severe damage to mine openings,compared with those with smooth surfaces.

There is an urgent need of new strategy for the monitoring of ground movement ahead of mountain tunnel face to improve the safety management.A new sensor is under development for the monitoring based on the concept of "On Site Visualization".This method is different from the conventional field measurement techniques in that deformation is measured on site and visualized by different colors of light in *** this method makes use of optical fibers as the light propagation medium,it could keep on visualizing the displacement of measuring points even if its front part is cut as needed during *** paper presents some laboratory experiments to demonstrate the applicability of this *** doing this,it is found possible to monitor the ground deformation by the proposed ***,some work in future is discussed briefly.

The function mode of influencing factors and recognition method for the loose zone of largespan tunnels which are built in heavily jointed rock stratum are very *** like the thickness of overlying weak rock stratum,tunnel depth and joints occurrences are influencing factors that need careful *** using orthogonal array testing and distinct element method,a case of large-span metro station cavern on conditions of no support is taken,based on UDEC software,64 different numerical simulation models of which the cross section share same form and size are two-dimensionally simulated.A new method based on joints occurrences is presented to determine the boundary of loose *** influencing rules of factors are summarized and new formulae for the area of loose zone and length of earth surface crack are formulated by using the liner least squares *** errors of the empirical formulae are analyzed.
