Soil-rock mixture(SRM) is a unique type of inhomogeneous geomaterial made up of fine soil and coarse rock *** to its inhomogeneous composition and distinguishing properties,SRM has drawn great attentions both in theory and in engineering *** paper presents an experimental investigation on the internal microscopic processes that soil-rock mixture(SRM) fractures,damages and breaks when subjected to a uniaxial compressive load through the on-site CT scan and the digital image processing techniques.A novel digital image processing algorithm was developed to extract the detailed information of the inside fracture and damage of *** on the CT identification and the damage mechanics theory,a damage variable was proposed and the isotropic damage property of SRM amid a complete compressive stress-strain response was *** paper provides direct experimental evidence about the damage mechanism that essentially governs the macroscopic mechanical performance of SRM.

Nowadays,the construction and development of small spacing tunnels is one of the hot issues in transportation *** simulations on the failure mechanism of small spacing tunnel are carried out by using PFC,considering the factors such as tunnel spacing,buried depth and surrounding rock strength,and the whole failure process of small spacing tunnels is successfully simulated in the *** conclusions can be drawn from the ***,when the tunnel spacing is small,the surrounding rock above each tunnel collapse separately at first,while the collapse develops to a certain degree,the middle rock pillar collapse, cracks appear and enlarge above the two tunnels,and finally the surrounding rock under the cracks drops and so a combinated collapse arch ***,the failure mode of small spacing tunnel is different under different tunnel *** smaller the spacing is,the easier and faster the combinated collapse arch formed, and the more serious the collapse degree *** the tunnel spacing is big enough,the two tunnels collapse *** bigger the tunnel spacing is,the smaller the interaction of the two tunnels is,and the more slightly the collapse degree ***,the failure mode of small spacing tunnel is different under different tunnel buried depth and surrounding rock *** the buried depth and surrounding rock strength are small,combinated collapse arch cannot be formed above the two tunnels,and finally the collapse develops to the ground surface. Finally,for small spacing tunnels,the stabilization of the middle rock pillar is much more important.

The deep-buried tunnels in JinpingⅡHydropower Station are characterized by great depth,long length,large size in diameter and high *** the excavation,by drilling and blasting method,of these tunnels,lots of the time-delayed rockbursts occurred;and blasting disturbance was one of triggering factors of their *** paper discusses the correlation between time-delayed rockbursts and blasting disturbance profoundly from two aspects of blasting disturbance strength and the delayed time of the time-delayed rockbursts. And the main conclusions were presented as follows:(1) the number of time-delayed rockbursts does not reduce with the increase of their distance from explosive center;(2) the risk of the time-delayed rockburst in situations with several working faces is obviously higher than that with single tunnel face;(3) most of the time-delayed rockbursts occur within seven days to one month after excavation;(4) the relationship between frequency of the time-delayed rockbursts and their delayed blasting time is a good power function,and the peak period of rockburst activities is within 4 hours after blasting.

In this paper,a detailed analysis is made to detect the morphology of Xuzhou marble from room temperature to 1400°using polarizing microscope and combine it with acoustic emission characteristic parameters from 200°to 800°.Some results are achieved:the marble samples would produce strong acoustic emission phenomena affected by high temperatures that the acoustic emission ring count rate increases with increasing temperature and acoustic emission activity becomes more frequent in the heating *** is a corresponding relationship between rock acoustic emission characteristic parameters and its internal crack network *** ringing cumulative number of marble increases with increasing temperature which indicates that the internal cracks continue to expand with increasing temperature while it changes rapidly at two temperature ranges which are 200°to 400°and 600°to 800°indicating that 400°is the threshold value of crack growth and the cracks fully expand and format large transcrystalline cracks at 800°.

Experimental comparison of single and double scroll cutting patterns by using chisel cutting tools of chain saw machines

This study aims at comparing experimentally single and double spiral(scroll) cutting patterns and to see the possibility for replacing single spiral with double spiral in chain saw ***-scale linear cutting tests are performed by using a chisel cutting tool used with chain saw *** tests are performed at line spacing of 5 mm and varying depths of cut per revolution by using a natural stone sample(travertine). Comparison criteria are normal force,cutting force,specific energy and size distribution of cuttings. The results indicate that although the tool forces are slightly higher in the double spiral cutting pattern,the specific energy is lower,which means higher production rates with lower *** is considered that replacing single with double spiral cutting pattern would improve the cutting performance of chain saw machines.

The characteristic of deep rock joints affects the mechanical behavior of rock mass in underground rock engineering,especially underground oil storage *** Television(BHTV) is used to investigate lithology and deep rock joints characteristic,which is dip direction,aperture and roughness,in the largest underground oil storage caverns in *** on the geometry relationship between inclined borehole and joints,the dip angle and dip direction has been identified by 3 points' depth and orientation,and the real aperture has been figured out by depth and orientation of 2 points of the joints trace in the BHTV image.A sinusoid ruler was proposed to measure the fluctuating quantity of the joints in images,and projected the oval roughness of borehole wall to straight *** joints roughness was estimated by Joint Roughness Coefficient (JRC) through the relationship of Fractal Dimension and Barton's 10 standard profiles.

Zagros Water Conveyance tunnel in western Iran crosses a broad and vast *** TBM burrowed tunnel has long drained the region's groundwater at an average rate of 416 lit/*** groundwater is rich in hydrogen sulfide（HS） *** gas reacts with the tunnel humidity and produces an acidic fume that penetrates the tunnel lining and decomposes its concrete and steel reinforcement,as *** exact locations of these discharging conduits and their morphology are not known,since the TBM segmental lining conceals *** elaborate post-grouting plan is on the drawing board to reclaim the aquifer but the cost of a systematic grouting is particularly high and at best scenario not conclusive. The scope of this paper is to discuss a series of carefully controlled field experiments in a 100 m pilot study area along the *** manipulates on the TBM performance parameters that were registered during the tunnel excavation *** on this information,suitable field models are established that may be interpreted as being associated with either water or air-filled solution channels and open *** results are supported by in-situ permeability tests,where the suspected joints were theatrically identified and were cement grouted after construction phase.

True triaxial tests have been carried out on two porous sandstones,Coconino（n = 17.5%） and Bentheim（n = 24%） to investigate the effect of the intermediate principal stress（σ） on compressive strength, failure-plane angle and failure *** rocks were selected because they are similar to sandstones forming hydrocarbon reservoirs,as well as to those being considered for CO *** both rocks the increase in strength asσ rose above a givenσ was found to be similar to that established in crystalline rocks,but the maximum rise in strength was considerably *** mode in Coconino sandstone was in the form of a steeply inclined shear band,or fault,at lowerσ,with the slope becoming gentler asσ increased,culminating in multiple parallel and conjugate bands at the highestσ attempted（=150 MPa）.Bentheim sandstone failure mode experienced a similar evolution in a narrower range（σ between 0 to 80 MPa）,but as loading continued,failure was in the form of shear-enhanced compaction bands with angle dropping to～45°and lower,and reaching 0°atσ = 150 MPa（creating pure compaction bands）.Failure-plane angle in both rocks increased by up to 15°asσ was raised above a givenσ.

Acoustic emission characteristics and law of halite and thenardite under uniaxial cyclic loading and unloading are studied by using TYJ 600 rock mechanics testing system controlled by the microcomputer, electro-hydraulic servo control and SDAES digital acoustic emission *** results show that acoustic emission count rate and energy rate are small for two kinds of samples in the initial state during uniaxial compression;in the elastic deformation stage,increase of AE counts is stable and little for halite and thenardite, respectively;in the plastic deformation stage,halite AE count rate and energy rate are linear growth with time increasing,thenardite AE count rate and energy rate increase rapidly;at the peak strength,halite and thenardite AE count rate and energy rate reach the maximum at the same time;after the peak strength,there are still AE counts and a few AE in the unloading period under cyclic loading and *** stress load to last unloading stress in the loading period,thenardite acoustic emission also exist,which is different from the typical "Kaiser Effect".Under monotonous and cyclic loading and unloading,halite and thenardite AE count rate and energy rate are consistent,either count rate or energy rate can be served as criteria of precursor of rock failure for these rocks.
