In this study, the researchers investigate the mutually beneficial relationship that exists between machine learning (ML) and big data, highlighting both the benefits and the challenges that are brought about by the combination of these two domains. Large datasets provide a difficult environment for machine learning (ML) algorithms to extract meaningful insights from, but ML also provides sophisticated tools to assist in navigating through the complexity of these datasets. Even while there is the potential for synergy, their full-fledged adoption is delayed by significant constraints such as the quality of the data, the need for computing, concerns around privacy, and the skills gap. In addition to highlighting recent advancements in algorithmic efficiency, data preparation, and ethical frameworks, this paper investigates the strategic strategies and techniques that are used to address these issues. An in-depth investigation of machine learning models on a variety of datasets is presented, which offers insights into the efficacy of these models and their applicability for instances that occur in the real world, particularly those that involve the pharmaceutical industry. The research sheds light on the ways in which the environment is undergoing transformations and the ways in which practitioners are actively searching for and putting these challenges into practice in order to fully grasp the revolutionary potential of big data and machine learning. © 2024 IEEE.

The Lunar far side is a relatively untouched landmass that constitutes a very distinctive scientific arena. Even though there are many interesting particulars on the far side, finding sufficient evidence of usable water ice near a potential future human outpost or colony has always been a priority on the Moon. however, most of the potential ice-present zones are in permanently shaded regions. Therefore, all the traditional energy storage and transmission system cannot be used. In this study, a novel laser-based energy transmission system has been built to capture the solar energy by the lander positioned on the rim of the crater which will be converted to laser energy to be transmitted to the rover inside the permanently shadowed regions inside the crater. A foldable laser receiving dish will collect the laser energy and store it in the batteries for the working of the rover. The results indicate that a total of 450 W can be transmitted to the Rover at 20 Kilometres which is fitted with a Gallium Aluminium Arsenide solar array with a diameter of 1.1 meters. © 2023 IEEE.

Information on the components of solar radiation is key to the implementation of solar energy projects. It is highly sought by policymakers, energy planners, engineers, architects, and investors, as well as researchers and practitioners in the field of solar energy. In the current study, spatial and temporal analyses of the main components of solar radiation are conducted which reveal mean global horizontal irradiance, direct normal irradiance, and diffused irradiance of 178.5 kWh/m2, 187.9 kWh/m2, and 58.1 kWh/m2, respectively, over the 20-year period analyzed. Spatial analysis reveal that the northern plain of Mauritius favors the implementation of solar energy projects owing to high global and direct irradiances. High diffusion of incoming irradiance is observed to occur on the central plateau region and attributed to the presence of increased moisture content as a result of cloud convection occurring in the vicinity. A mean clearness index value of 0.6214 has been obtained over Mauritius, which is indicative of intermediate to clear sky conditions prevailing on the island. The clear sky conditions and high insolation are propitious conditions for solar technology implementation in Mauritius. © 2023 IEEE.

Diabetes is a very serious worldwide chronic disease that affects people's life and health. Patients require insulin injections to maintain blood sugar balance exogenously. Methods to detect diabetes are time-consuming and labor-intensive. With the popularity of machine learning algorithms, we expect to predict and analyze diabetes through deep learning methods. In this paper, we utilize machine learning methods for data analysis and prediction. Our method was tested on public datasets and found that the random forest algorithm performed best, and that BMI and gender were the most important factors affecting the prevalence of diabetes. © 2023 SPIE.

The detection of building changes through remote sensing image allows for the timely monitoring of urban development dynamics, providing a scientific basis for urban planning and management. Given the complexity of spatial features in remote sensing images of buildings, this paper introduces spatial prior knowledge in terms of both space and distance. Building features from remote sensing images are extracted using retentive networks meet vision transformers (RMT). The extracted feature maps from two temporal phases are processed by a bitemporal image transformer (BIT), leading to the output of the decoder, from which the areas of change between the two phases are computed. The proposed method is validated on the WHU-CD building change detection dataset, and the results show that the proposed method effectively improves the accuracy of building change detection in remote sensing images. © 2024 IEEE.

When snake robots perform tasks, their ability of sensing the environment is very important. This paper proposes an algorithm for estimating the slope angle based on the cooperation of two snake robots by using the visual system. Through the movement of two snake robots, the corresponding geometric models will be created. After that, the angle of the slope is calculated by substituting the coordinates that are recorded by the visual system. Finally, the experiments are conducted to verify the performance of the algorithm. The results show the errors are within 2° when the slope range is between 15° and 75°. © 2023 IEEE.

Ride-sharing systems have emerged as a popular and cost-effective urban transportation solution, allowing private car drivers to offer rides to passengers traveling in the same direction. This paper delves into the market design problem, where agents, i.e., drivers and riders, dynamically enter the system over time, each requiring transportation to specific destinations. To get an important insight, we focus on a fundamental case where all participants share a common origin but have distinct destinations that define their types. Given matching agents of the same type generates higher utility than matching different types, we explore how the matching of agents can enhance the overall utility generated by the market. Moreover, we assume agents exhibit impatience and will exit the system after waiting for a given time window. This introduces interesting incentive issues, whether an agent will accept a matching proposed by the platform. Initially, we tackle scenarios where agents are constrained to accept such a matching. We introduce a straightforward heuristic that matches a different-Type pair only when one agent is about to leave immediately and the other cannot wait beyond a threshold number of time periods. We establish a theoretical lower bound on the heuristic mechanism's performance and demonstrate its near-optimality. Subsequently, we shift focus to the incentive dynamics within the system, particularly when self-interested agents can be non-cooperative with the platform, i.e., reject low-value different-Type matchings hoping to get better ones in the future. We study the incentive compatibility of the heuristic mechanism regarding cooperation and propose a strategy to foster cooperation by compensating appropriately agents who agree to accept different-Type matching. © 2024 IEEE.

Visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), which has numerous potential uses, is swiftly emerging as a significant development in embedded vision. In our analysis, there remain several unsolved dilemmas about SLAM that are visual, making it less favored over Lidar SLAM. Because it offers an affordable solution for mapping and navigation in mobile robots. These mobile robots can be defined as robots whose unique base is not fixed, so as technology establishes and advances, we. In this report, a real-time light, that is, dim or image or video in low light problem enhancement algorithm is proposed that significantly improves the overall performance of the Canny Edge part detection algorithm, which usually may be useful for benefit recognition in low light issues in cellular robots for several mapping and navigation tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

Connected objects are one of the most important vectors for the collection of personal data. With the increase in data volumes, we are observing an increase in network vulnerabilities and data ***-centric security (DCS) and its related protocols such as the NATO STANAG 4774 have become a suited approach to address diverse data protection and secure information exchange. Despite the novelty of the approach, it comes with a challenge regarding its implementation to ensure the integrity of data in real scenario. In this paper, we are evaluating the NATO STANAG 4774 protocol when securing smart home data. Then, we use Random Forest to detect cyber attacks based on malware injection. We conduct an empirical study to evaluate the performance of our approach and we show how a machine learning technique can be used to ensure the integrity of data when using a data-centric security protocol. In fact, our proposed approach has a recall of 0.781 - in other words, it correctly identifies more than 78% of all malicious data injection. © 2023 IEEE.

Motor imagery (MI) EEG-based brain-computer interface (BCI) facilitates direct communication between the brain's intentions and a computer. In essence, it allows a person to control external equipment by decoding EEG signals during the mental imagery of limb movements. However, due to the intricate individual variances in EEG signals, creating a general decoding model with parameters applicable to all subjects is exceptionally challenging. Consequently, a prolonged calibration process is necessary to gather labeled subject-specific data for each individual, making it less user-friendly. A potential solution to this problem is transfer learning, a methodology that transfers knowledge from related domains to a target domain. To tackle the problem, this paper proposes a novel transfer learning approach on the Riemannian manifold framework in the context of multiclass MI EEG-based BCI classification. Particularly, a user-specific frequency band selection (FBS) method with MI EEG class distinctiveness is utilized to improve the accuracy and efficiency of Riemannian space calculations, which is measured using the inter-class distance and intra-class variance on the manifold. Then, the Riemannian space Alignment (RA) strategy is used to calibrate the MI EEG variances of different subjects. The comparative experiments between the proposed approach and baseline/conventional methods are conducted on a public dataset with four-class motor imagery EEG, including two-class transfer learning scenario and four-class transfer learning scenario. proposed transfer learning approach is outperformed. Compared with the baseline/conventional methods using a fixed wide frequency band, the preliminary results suggests that the proposed approach can significantly improve the transfer learning performance for the MI EEG signals from different subjects in Riemannian space. © 2024 IEEE.
