There are several methods successfully used for Process Improvement. In EQualPI (a framework to Evaluate the Quality of Implementation of Process Improvements) our main concerns are the performance in terms of efficiency and effectiveness of the outcomes of a process, this being more relevant than only considering compliance. Additionally, we believe that a Process Improvement method must be repeatable, reliable and unbiased. Given that the scientific Method is used to create new knowledge, applying such method to Process Improvement can greatly contribute to more rigorous and less prone to bias results. In this paper we present our definition of the scientific Method applied to Process Improvement, which we have based on and validated through a quasi-experiment with two groups of graduate students and undergraduates. The output of our process improvement was later adopted by an organisation. Our method is tailorable and with our quasi-experiment we showed that the scientific Method in Process Improvement can be applied to smaller and lower maturity organisations.
