In this paper, we introduce a polyphase implementation and design of an oversampled K-channel generalized DFT (GDFT) filter bank, which can be employed for subband adaptive filtering, and therefore is required to have a low aliasing level in the subband signals. A polyphase structure is derived which can be factorized into a real valued polyphase network and a GDFT modulation. For the latter, an FFT realization may be used, yielding a very inexpensive polyphase implementation for arbitrary integer decimation ratios N less than or equal to K. We also present an analysis underlining the efficiency of complex valued subband processing. The design of the filter bank is completely based on the prototype filter and solved using a fast converging iterative least squares method, for which we give examples. The design specifications closely correspond with performance limits of subband adaptive filtering, which are under-pinned by simulation results.

In the near future, Global Positioning System (GPS) data will be used in a wide variety of portable, mobile electronic devices. Shrinking feature sizes, combined with the need for low-power, lightweight components, will drive an entire GPS receiver onto a single, mixed-signal die. A major design issue in mixed-signalsystems is the effect of digital switching noise coupled to sensitive analog circuits through the substrate. A method is proposed for minimizing this effect by partitioning digital and analog processing into separate time blocks. The resulting trade-off between lost signal and increased energy consumption is explored. In particular, a GPS synchronizer design is analyzed with respect to modifications that can be made to increase performance, while minimizing any associated energy penalty.

In state-of-the-art multimedia compression standards, arithmetic coding is widely used as a powerful entropy compression method. In the MPEG-4 standard a specific 4-symbol, multiple-context arithmetic coder is used for wavelet based image compression. In this paper we present an architecture capable of processing close to I symbol per cycle, managing multiple context in a simple, yet cost-efficient manner. A peak performance of 200 Mbit/s is achieved when clocking this architecture at 100 MHz.

We used blind source separation algorithm to control the acoustic noise which has to be suppressed. Blind source separation algorithm separate original echo signal from observation signal which is mixed by acoustic noise. The separated echo signal applied to the reference signal of the adaptive filter, this approach bring good performance of adaptive algorithm for echo cancellation. Computer simulation results show the efficiency of the suggested method.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is an existing technique that can significantly increase throughput of the system by employing multiple antennas at the transmitter and the receiver. Realizing maximum benefit from this technique requires computationally intensive detectors which poses significant challenges to receiver design. Furthermore, a flexible detector or multiple detectors are needed to handle different configurations. Graphical Processor Unit (GPU), a highly parallel commodity programmable co-processor, can deliver extremely high computation throughput and is well suited for signalprocessing applications. However, careful architecture aware design is needed to leverage performance offered by GPU. We show we can achieve good performance while maintaining flexibility by employing an optimized trellis-based MIMO detector on GPU.

A new scheme combining a scalable transcoder with space time block codes (STBC) for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is proposed for robust video transmission in dispersive fading channels. The target application for such a scalable transcoder is to provide successful access to the pre-encoded high quality video from mobile wireless terminals. In the scalable transcoder, besides outputting the fine granular scalability (FGS) bitstream, both size of video frames and the bit rate are reduced. And an array processing algorithm of layer interference suppression is used at the receiver which makes the system structure provide different levels of protection to different layers. Furthermore, by considering the important level of scalable bitstream, the different bitstreams can be given different level protection by the system structure and channel coding. With the proposed system, the concurrent large diversity gain characteristic of STBC and alleviating the frequency-selective fading effect of OFDM can be achieved. The simulation results suggest that the proposed schemes integrating scalable transcoding can provide a basic quality of video tansmission and 'outperform the convention single layer transcoding transmited under the random and bursty error channel conditions.

This paper demonstrates a clockless stochastic low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoder implemented on a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Stochastic computing reduces the wiring complexity necessary for decoding by replacing operations such as multiplication and division with simple logic gates and serial processing. Clockless decoding increases the throughput of the decoder by eliminating the requirement for node signals to be synchronized after each decoding cycle. The design is implemented on an ALTERA Stratix IV EP4SGX230 FPGA and the frame error rate (FER), throughput, and power performance are presented for (96,48) and (204,102) LDPC decoders.

Low latency signalprocessing and high throughput implementations are required in order to realize real-time TDD massive MIMO communications, especially in high mobility scenarios. One of the main challenges is that the up-link and down-link turnaround time has to be within the coherence time of the wireless channel to enable efficient use of reciprocity. This paper presents a hardware architecture and implementation of this critical signalprocessing path, including channel estimation, QRD-based MMSE decoder/precoder and distributed reciprocity calibration. Furthermore, we detail a switch-based router implementation to tackle the stringent throughput and latency requirements on the data shuffling network. The proposed architecture was verified on the LuMaMi testbed, based on the NI SDR platform. The implementation supports real-time TDD transmission in a 128 x 12 massive MIMO setup using 20 MHz channel bandwidth. The processing latency in the critical path is less than 0.15 ms, enabling reciprocity-based TDD massive MIMO for high-mobility scenarios.

Dataflow modeling offers a myriad of tools in designing and optimizing signalprocessingsystems. A designer is able to take advantage of dataflow properties to effectively tune the system in connection with functionality and different performance metrics. However, a disparity in the specification of dataflow properties and the final implementation can lead to incorrect behavior that is difficult to detect. This motivates the problem of ensuring consistency between dataflow properties that are declared or otherwise assumed as part of dataflow-based application models and the dataflow behavior that is exhibited by implementations that are derived from the models. In this paper, we address this problem by introducing a novel dataflow validation framework (DVF) that is able to identify disparities between an application's formal dataflow representation and its implementation. We demonstrate the utility of our DVF through design and implementation case studies involving an automatic speech recognition application, and a JPEG encoder.
