We introduce an approach for converting pixel art into high-quality vector images. While much progress has been made on automatic conversion, there is an inherent ambiguity in pixel art, which can lead to a mismatch with the artist's original intent. Further, there is room for incorporating aesthetic preferences during the conversion. In consequence, this work introduces an interactive framework to enable users to guide the conversion process towards high-quality vector illustrations. A key idea of the method is to cast the conversion process into a spring-system optimization that can be influenced by the user. Hereby, it is possible to resolve various ambiguities that cannot be handled by an automatic algorithm.

Metaverse has been attracting more and more attention because of its potential for various use cases. In metaverse applications, the seamless integration of digital and physical worlds is vital for synchronizing information from one world to another. One way to achieve this is to reconstruct 3D environmental maps every time, which is not feasible due to computational complexity. A cheaper alternative is to detect what objects have changed and update only the changed objects. To build the foundation of the change detection algorithm for that, in this paper, we propose a change detection method combined with object classification. Despite its simplicity, the experiment showed promising results with an object detector fine-tuned with data from the target environment. Furthermore, with our clustering-based post-processing, false positives produced by the frame-wise change detection were observed to be successfully suppressed.

Uncoupled stability, the condition by which the user is not in contact with the haptic device, is arguably a stringent stability condition for haptic simulation systems. Uncoupled stability of haptic systems simulating linear mass-spring or viscoelastic virtual environments have been analyzed. In this paper, we analytically and experimentally evaluate uncoupled stability for simulating mass-damper-spring virtual environments when only position or when position and velocity are available. In addition, the effect of using a linear combination of position and velocity in deriving acceleration estimate is also studied. Experimental results in a one degree-of-freedom device showed that the highest stiffness values are obtained when the acceleration is equally derived from position and velocity. This work will shed light on the interaction of the three dynamic components for virtual environment rendering.
