The dynamic forces that transit back and forth traditional boundaries of system development have led to the emergence of digital ecosystems. Within these, business gains are achieved through the development of intelligent control that requires a continuous design and runtime co-engineering process endangered by malicious attacks. The possibility of inserting specially crafted faults capable to exploit the nature of unknown evolving intelligent behavior raises the necessity of malicious behavior detection at *** to the needs and opportunities of fast AI development within digital ecosystems, in this paper, we envision a novel method and framework for runtime predictive evaluation of intelligent robots’ behavior for assuring a cooperative safe adjustment.

In this work the control of the reactive extrusion of є-Caprolactone in a twin-screw extruder using nonlinear model predictive control with a tracking objective is investigated. For this, the modeling of the extrusion process using a one-dimensional mechanistic model is presented and extended to reactive extrusion systems. A novel modeling approach describing the pressure as a differential state is proposed to be able to use efficient optimization methods. Results for two scenarios, a change of the product quality and a change of the throughput are shown. The tuning of the controller is discussed and the benefits over traditional control methods are elaborated. © 2021 The Authors. This paper reviews a previously-reported methodology for establishing feedback control of self-assembly. The methodology combines dimension reduction, supervised learning, and dynamic programming to obtain an optimal feedback control policy for reaching a desired assembled state. Sampled data are used in calculating the optimal feedback policy;this data can be generated using a predictive model (i.e. "simulated data") or using experimental data. The control strategy is demonstrated, with both simulation and experimental results, for two applications: control of colloidal assembly (to produce perfect colloidal crystals) and control of crystallization from solution (to produce crystals of desired average size). We present a uniform control approach for transitioning vertical take-off and landing aircraft. The approach combines several well-understood linear techniques, including robust servomechanism linear quadratic regulation, control allocation, and gain scheduling, to provide a practical control framework that can be used to unify the control design process in all flight regimes. The choice of command variables provides a pilot/operator with a uniform set of intuitive control inputs through all phases of flight while also being easily integrated into autonomous trajectory tracking operations. The control method is applied to the NASA LA-8 aircraft, a tandem tiltwing distributed electric propulsion research vehicle designed at NASA Langley Research Center. The trim envelope of the aircraft is explored and the aircraft control authority analyzed throughout the transition corridor. The uniform control approach is then used to develop reference command tracking controllers for both the longitudinal and lateral-directional dynamics. An example trajectory is simulated to demonstrate how the controller effectively transitions the aircraft from hover to forward flight and vice versa while tracking a desired trajectory. © 2021 by the Vertical Flight Society. The docking control of AUV is disturbed by model mismatch and sea current. This paper presents a method of AUV docking control based on the application of offset-free nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) with multiple dynamic constraints. The controller drives the AUV from the initial pose to the entrance of the docking station (DS) through the coordinated motion of the AUV's surge, sway, heave and yaw. In the process of AUV docking, the control input range, static space and field of view (FOV) of positioning sensor are the constraints of NMPC controller. A state observer is designed to estimate the system state and external disturbance, and the estimation is combined with NMPC controller to ensure the offset-free docking of AUV in the presence of model mismatch and external disturbance. Real-time iteration (RTI) approach is used to solve the on-line NMPC problem in real time. The offset-free NMPC controller is demonstrated in simulation studies using a six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) nonlinear model of AUV. The results obtained demonstrate that the proposed method can realize offset-free AUV docking control even under significant plant-model mismatch and external persistent current disturbance.

The fluidized bed theory can be complex, especially for heterogeneous flow descriptions with bypasses, generally resulting in large differential and algebraic systems of equations. Consequently, their applicability to model-based process control is limited. In this work, a simplified homogeneous model for pharmaceutical batch drying is derived from the two-phase fluidization theory using physical insights and simplifying assumptions, reducing more than a hundred equations to five. A nonlinear model predictive controller with an internal model structure is designed from these simple equations, showing the simplicity of tuning and implementation. Parameters of the model are calibrated through nonlinear grey-box identification using pilot scale experimental data. The validation demonstrates that the proposed simplifications do not impair the ability to replicate the process dynamics adequately with experimental conditions similar to the ones used for calibration. Closed-loop results in simulation attest the robustness of this control strategy. Copyright (C) 2021 The Authors.

Induction motors are the most widely adopted alternating current machines in industry. Requirements for precise and efficient control of such motors has led to developments in high performance drives, namely direct torque control. The induction motors parameters must be ascertained to accurately tune the drive to its optimum performance, failing to do so would result in an inadequate response from the drive, leading to sluggish dynamics and premature deterioration of the motor and drive. The process of optimizing the drive parameters is laborious, costly and time consuming. MathWorks provides software to model and modify the parameters of a direct torque control drive, however the trial and error retuning methods are tedious. This paper presents the development of an AC induction motor and direct torque control drive parameter retuning app which can accurately predict the motor and drive parameters and then simulate its performance using solely the motor nominal power rating. The app utilises the AC4 block and pre-set induction motor models from within the Math Works Specialised Power systems library. The effectiveness of the app was first tested with known data points and then at random query points and operating conditions, all of which produced satisfactory results in significantly reduced time.

The application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in mechanical vibration monitoring is pivotal for achieving efficient monitoring within the realms of industrial automation and intelligent manufacturing, playing a significant role in the digital transformation and upgrading of China's manufacturing industry. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the major technological advancements made by scholars and institutions globally over the past sixteen years in the domain of mechanical vibration monitoring using WSNs. Subsequently, employing CiteSpace for knowledge mapping and visualization, a multifaceted statistical analysis is conducted on over four hundred publications from both domestic and international sources. Through clustering analysis, keyword co-occurrence, and other analytical techniques, the paper delineates the multidimensional evolution of research hotspots and the dynamics of author collaboration networks over time. Building on this foundation, the paper delves into the cutting-edge trends of the field, emphasizing the critical importance of establishing efficient energy management systems and leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence to process large-scale sensor data. These strategies are essential for optimizing system performance and propelling the development of WSNs towards miniaturization, integration, multifunctionality, systematization, and networking. The synergistic effects of these measures are anticipated to provide robust support for the intelligent upgrade of the manufacturing industry, fostering its progression towards greater efficiency and intelligence.

Advanced nonlinear gas phase control for autotrophic cultivations of different mutants of Ralstonia eutropha

This paper presents a control architecture suitable for autotrophic cultivations in a stirred tank reactor feeding a gas mixture of H-2/CO2/O-2. No metabolic information about the cultivated strain is required for the gas phase controller, which can also be used as part of the overall control for the entire process. A gain-scheduled MIMO-PI controller connected to an adaptive feedforward disturbance rejection is proposed. The latter exploits the estimated gas transfer rates of a Kalman filter solely based on a description of the non-biotic processes occurring. Thus, without further knowledge of the autotrophic strain, experiments can be run to generate data and to develop a process model including strain-specific biological details. The wild-type strain H16 of Ralstonia eutropha and two mutants, HF805 and H798, are used to demonstrate how this can be done. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
