The paper presents the process of modeling and investigation of dynamic properties of automatically controlled underwater vehicle as an object with superimposed nonholonomic constraints. Based on torpedoes, a universal mathematical model of a robotic underwater vehicle comprising coupling dynamics of a controlled object with superimposed guidance has been built. This model is now being used to make numerical simulation program, that illustrates the behaviour of the object during guidance. A review on motion of the underwater vehicle considered in the inertial system associated with mother-ship.
Focus of this contribution is the constructive and functional design of an entire energetic optimized battery electric vehicle. This vehicle called M(echatronic)-Mobile was designed at the university Ostfalia using a ...

The Ko-PER (cooperative perception) research project aims at improvements of active traffic safety through cooperative perception systems. Within the project a prototype of a cooperative warning system was realized. This system provides early advisory warnings which are especially useful in critical situations with occluded conflict partners. The development process was accompanied by a series of driving simulator studies to determine both the potential to reduce traffic conflicts and important design characteristics of early advisory warning signals. The most important details of the prototype system's components inter-vehicle information-fusion and situation analysis are described and the achieved warning timings are compared to the results of the driving simulator studies.
Due to advanced hardware capabilities, the need to improve driving safety, performance and economic motivation, modern passenger cars feature a lot of chassis controlsystems. These enable engineers to adapt the vehic...

Coastal area has abundant resources however, overdevelopment and utilization by mankind has caused severe abuse of original landscapes. In order to mitigate such deterioration, the concept of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) has been proposed to take measurements of geographic nature, applied construction, ecology system, economic value and environmental protection. The objective is to establish a reasonable utilization and sustainable development goal. However, most of the studies on coastal zone management are focused on qualitative approaches or quantitative modules such as sequential (i.e. statistics model) or spatial (i.e. geographic information system) assessment. It is seldom to apply integrated spatial-temporal model with artificial decision assessment, therefore this study combines both system dynamic (SD) which is best known in process timing dynamic complexity, causal loop and timing stagnant, together with cellular automata (CA), which can effectively present spatial interactions of each parameters, to develop a set of integrated spatial and temporal assessment system for coastal area. The objective is to facilitate decision maker or managers to conduct simulation and strategic analysis based on various subjects and modules, and lay out a sustainable coastal management strategy.

Open-sea ship-to-ship transfer operation is an alternative way to avoid port congestion. This process involves a relatively small vessel which transports containers between the harbour and a large cargo ship equipped with a container crane. However, the presence of disturbances and uncertainties caused by harsh open-sea conditions can produce an excessive sway to the hoisting ropes of the crane system. This paper addresses the problem of robust sliding mode control for offshore container crane systems subject to bounded disturbances and uncertain parameters. The mathematical model of an offshore container crane is first derived whereas the effects of ocean waves and gusty winds are taken into account. Then, based on the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) design, a sliding surface is obtained to meet the required performance and stable dynamics for the closed-loop system. Finally, a robust sliding mode controller is proposed to drive the state trajectories of the offshore container crane system towards the sliding surface in finite time and maintain them subsequently on that surface. Simulation results are given to show that the proposed controller can significantly suppress the effects of uncertainties and disturbances from the vessel's wave-and wind-induced motion and wind drag force on the payload.

The reduction of environmental contaminants that contribute to smog and soot is a worldwide goal that has seen an increased focus in recent years. In the United States, for example, it is estimated that by 2014 new rules will lead to a 71% reduction of sulfur dioxide emissions and 52% of nitrogen oxide emissions as compared to 2005 level. Thus, medium-sized plants (100-500MW) that currently do not have flue gas desulfurization (FGD) units or selective catalytic reduction systems (SCRs) will be required to adapt. Similar emission reduction efforts are expected to be adopted globally, albeit at different levels. Wet-scrubber FGD is characterized as one of the most effective SO2 removal techniques with low operating costs. However, capital cost for implementation is considered high. Hence an effective optimization procedure is required to reduce these capital costs of conversion. Power plants commonly use a lime slurry spray reaction to reduce SO2 emissions. control of the droplets throughout the tower geometry is essential to ensuring maximum reduction while minimizing scale. The liquid slurry is known to have density, surface tension and viscosity values that deviate from standard water spray characteristics, which complicates process optimization. In order to improve the scrubber, nozzle characteristics and placement must be optimized to reduce the cost of the system implementation and mitigate risks of inadequate pollution reduction. A series of large flow rate, hydraulic, hollow cone sprays were investigated for this study. A Computational Fluid dynamics (CFD) model was used to examine potential scrubber designs for optimization of the system. Nozzle parameters were modeled to allow particle tracking through the system. An ANSYS Fluent Lagrangian particle tracking method was used with heat and mass transfer. The alkaline sorbent material and SO2 reaction is modeled to determine uniformity and efficacy of the system. Volumetric chemistry mechanisms were used to sim
