High-gain observers have been used to estimate derivatives of the output in different applications. These observers have shown great advantages in the design of nonlinear output feedback control of nonlinear systems. However, when disturbances and/or noises are present in the systems, the performance of high-gain observers is degraded. In this paper we try to overcome this deficiency by investigating the applicability of proportional integral (PI) observers. PI observer has successfully been used in LTR design and it has shown the ability of simultaneous estimation of states and disturbances. This paper proposes a new output derivative estimation using PI observer for certain classes of nonlinear systems. Simulation results demonstrate the robustness of PI observers.

This paper deals with the design of an unknown input observer for anaerobic wastewater treatment plants. A key problem in bioprocessing systems is the absence, in some cases, of reliable on-line measurements for real-time monitoring applications. The objective is to develop on-line estimation of unmeasured input (i.e. unknown input) for anaerobic processes defined as unknown input affine nonlinear systems. Based on a nonlinear state space model, the design approach is to find an observable subsystem insensitive to unmeasured inputs according to the linear theory. This subsystem is used to estimate, from available on-line measurements, the state and the unmeasured inputs. This study focuses on the on-line estimation of unmeasured inputs over a wide range of simulation and a practical experimentation on a pilot plant: an anaerobic fixed bed reactor. The algorithm in a Sliding Mode that can be used for adaptive temperature control of a heating system for spectrum measurement systems and growing of crystals is presented. This paper is aimed not only at stating and developing the results obtained in the sphere of discontinuous system design, but also at presenting these results in close correlation with the basic concepts, problems and methods of theoretical aspects of present-day control theory. Implementation of this approach implies the knowledge of the conditions of the occurrence of sliding mode, for which purpose a sliding mode indicator has been developed. The Sliding Mode controller by means the Lab View graphical programming language under Windows 1998 environment is proposed. The controller program consist of the following separate blocks: the block for acquiring of data from the thermal point block;the programmer block (set points), which ensures the desired temperature profile and provides the linear-dependent voltage (or temperature) of a few desired slot time of different duration;the block responsible for the knowledge of conditions of the occurrence of SM, the so-called indicator;the observer block, which identifications the state vector of the system;block of anticipatory compensation;block of PID regulator.

Detecting and diagnosing faults in dynamic stochastic distributions using a rational B-splines approximation to output PDFs

This paper presents a novel approach to detect and diagnose faults in the dynamic part of a class of stochastic systems . the Such a group of systems are subjected to a set of crisp inputs but the outputs considered are the measurable probability density functions (PDFs) of the system output, rather than the system output alone. A new approximation model is developed for the output probability density functions so that the dynamic part of the system is decoupled from the output probability density functions. A nonlinear adaptive observer is constructed to detect and diagnose the fault in the dynamic part of the system. Conver-gency analysis is performed for the error dynamics raised from the fault detection and diagnosis phase and an applicability study on the detection and diagnosis of the unexpected changes in the 2D grammage distributions in a paper forming process is included.

This paper presents theory for stability analysis and design for a class of observer-based feedback control systems. Relaxation of the controllability and observability conditions imposed in the Yakubovich-Kalman-Popov (YKP) lemma can be made for a class of nonlinear systems described by a linear time-invariant system (LTI) with a feedback-connected cone-bounded nonlinear element. It is shown how a circle-criterion approach can be used to design an observer-based state feedback control which yields a closed-loop system with specified robustness characteristics. The approach is relevant for design with preservation of stability when a cone-bounded nonlinearity is introduced in the feedback loop. Important applications are to be found in nonlinear control with high robustness requirements. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a basic theory of intelligent photogrammetry and corresponding physically independent agent systems named Photogrammetron. Intelligent photogrammetry is a fusion of ideas, techniques and applications from digital photogrammetry, active vision and intelligent agents, aiming at developing highly automatic and intelligent photogrametric systems. The tenet of intelligent photogrammetry is that photogrammetry is a nonlinear process for which a full automation, if indeed required, is only possible if and only if the system is an autonomous and intelligent agent system. In its basic form, photogrammetron refers to a stereo photogrammetric system which is designed to possess an architecture of intelligent agent, a physical structure of qualitative and active vision, and a complete functionality of quantitative photogrammetry. In a broader sense, photogrammetron may have three physically different forms: I – coherent stereo photogrammetron, II – separated stereo photogramemtron and III – multi-camera network photogrammetron. Principal applications of photogrammetron include: photogrammetry-enabled robots, intelligent close-range photogrammetry, intelligent video surveillance, real-time digital videogrammetry. The agent architecture of photogrammetry consists mainly of five components: imaging perception, scene beliefs and models, missions and desires, intentions and planning, action and control. The photogrammetric visual information processing comprises seven major parts: motion camera calibration and relative orientation, optical flow computation and object tracking, stereo focus of attention and vergence control, stereo motion image sequence matching and correspondence maintenance, object structure from motion, multi-object tracking and recognition. While a complete realization of photogrammetron design will take time to appear, this paper only intends to outline a basic theory and address fundamental theoretical feasibility and challenging problems. This document presents research results for developing speed sensorless control algorithms for indirect field oriented (IFO) induction machine drives using sliding mode theory. In addition the improvement of the control performance of an IFO induction machine drive is attempted by using an adaptive fuzzy logic and a chattering free sliding mode controller. However, design of controller as well as observer for such systems may not be a trivial problem, since the model of the induction machine is a multi-variable, fifth order and strongly coupled nonlinear system. When the rotor speed is available, field oriented control can be considered as a conventional control method, since by using the frame transformation control of torque and flux can be decoupled for a field oriented induction motor drive. However, when the rotor speed is not available via a speed sensor then the problem of designing a speed estimator structure arises. For last two decades, these two problems are the focus of many researchers and many different algorithms have been proposed. from the point of practical aspects, the most of the proposed algorithms are too complex. Since for industrial applications the most important aspects of a drive system are “simplicity and reliability,” in this work our objective is to design an induction machine drive system which is simple and reliable. For this purpose, first two robust control algorithms are proposed for the speed regulation. Second three new flux and speed estimation methods based on sliding mode theory are proposed. The simulation and testing results confirms the performance of the proposed algorithms.

Fuzzy logic or fuzzy set theory is given greater emphasis in control applications in recent times. A controlled converter fed motor has in general a complex and non-linear model. The model suffers from problems of parameter variation and supply frequency deviation. The fuzzy controller takes care of the nonlinear operating conditions of the converter. Hence an 8097 micro controller based fuzzy PI controller is designed and implemented for a converter fed DC motor. The converter works satisfactorily under supply frequency variations and load disturbances.
