Many physical processes are described by differential-algebraic equations. The numerical simulation of such models usually combines an ODE numerical method together with an optimisation algorithm. In this paper we give a nonlinearobserverdesign permitting to estimate the unknown state without the use of an optimisation algorithm. Numerical simulations using the model of an aerobic culture of recombinant yeast are given to highlight the performance of the proposed observer

A new systematic framework for nonlinear reduced-order observerdesign that allows the concurrent estimation of the process state variables, together with key unknown process or sensor disturbances is proposed. From a mathematical standpoint, the problem under consideration reduces to solving a set of first-order singular PDEs along with a set of algebraic equations for which a rather general set of solvability conditions is derived. On the basis of the solution of the set of singular PDEs, a nonlinear reduced-order observer can then be designed so that both state and disturbance estimation errors converge to zero with assignable rates. The convergence properties of the proposed nonlinear reduced-order observer are tested through simulation studies in an illustrative example involving state and sensing error estimation in a biochemical reactor

An nonlinear adaptive observer based on filters is designed for parametric output feedback systems, and based on this observer using observer backstepping method to design an adaptive controller. Tuning function method is used to avoid over-parametrization. nonlinear damping is used to counteract the destabilizing effect of the observation errors. This scheme is different from the K-filter scheme and MT-filter scheme. We use the estimated states as the virtual control other than the output signals of the filters. The closed-loop system can be guaranteed all the signals involved globally uniformly bounded and the convergence of the tracking error

This paper addresses the fuzzy control problem for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems with disturbance. In case not all the system states are available, state observer is proposed. Consequently, the whole system behavior can be attributed to a kind of the standard singularly perturbed form. The system design is based on the estimated values from the state observer. It is shown that the proposed fuzzy controller guarantees the output of the considered system follows the desired value while maintaining all signals involved in the system stable.
This paper presents a hierarchical approach to hybrid control systems synthesis. It is set in a general behavioural framework and therefore allows a combination of continuous and discrete layers in the resulting overa...

An output-feedback active queue management (AQM) scheme is presented for asymptotically stabilizing a class of TCP networks at a desired operating point. In order to design an AQM controller with only an output (queue size) measurement, a novel TCP window size observer is first proposed. Then, the control law is developed by applying an observer-based backstepping design technique. The amplitude limits on the control input is addressed, namely, packet dropping or marking ratio must fall between 0 and 1. An estimation of the domain of attractiveness is given with a Lyapunov level set.

In this paper, a model-based temperature control scheme for batch chemical reactors is proposed. A controller-observer scheme is designed, where a nonlinearobserver is adopted to estimate the heat released by the reaction. The controller is based on the closure of two feedback loops, thus ensuring robustness of the overall scheme, while preserving the simplicity of the control laws. Remarkably, the observer and the controller can be designed and tuned separately. In the case of a poorly known heat-transfer coefficient, both the observer and the controller incorporate a direct adaptive estimation strategy of the coefficient. The performance, in terms of accuracy and robustness, are investigated via computer simulations

In this paper a gray-box identification method is investigated for linear parameter varying (LPV) continuous-time systems. An algorithm is given to analyze the parameter identifiability problem. Since the initial conditions are not assumed to be known, an observer based identification scheme is proposed. This is an identification method with two steps. In the first step a Luenberger type observer is designed, and in the second step a parameter estimation for the observer system is performed. The role of an observer based identification scheme in the elimination of the effects caused by the unknown initial conditions is highlighted. The importance of the selection of sampling time is also shown. The method is demonstrated through an estimation of the features of the gravity center of heavy vehicles

In this paper a solution to the output feedback torque and rotor flux tracking problem for an induction motor model given in the natural frame was proposed. In this approach the design of controller and observer is interlaced, and global stability results for the total system can be proved. It must be pointed out that the existing observer in the literature is simple, with only updating from current error terms in the rotor equations. In this work, we present the design of an observer for a special class of nonlinear systems satisfying some regularity assumptions. A further extension of the design strategy is made to a specific class of multi-output systems which assume stronger nonlinear dependence between the various subsystems.
