In this paper a solution to the output feedback torque and rotor flux tracking problem for an induction motor model given in the natural frame was proposed. In this approach the design of controller and observer is interlaced, and global stability results for the total system can be proved. It must be pointed out that the existing observer in the literature is simple, with only updating from current error terms in the rotor equations. In this work, we present the design of an observer for a special class of nonlinear systems satisfying some regularity assumptions. A further extension of the design strategy is made to a specific class of multi-output systems which assume stronger nonlinear dependence between the various subsystems.

This work presents a solution for the design of a time-varying and parametric output feedback controller for known general nonlinear dynamic systems subjected to linear output structure. The controller consists of two parts: an adaptive observer and a time-varying controller. Under a certain assumption on the nonlinear dynamics of the system, a stable and nonlinear adaptive observer can be firstly built This observer can be logically combined with any pre-specified smooth nonlinearcontroller that uses the estimated state feedback with another set of tuning parameters. A combined parameter dependent Lyapunov function is constructed and used to formulate an effective tuning rule for the time-varying parameters involved in both the observer and the control function. With this selection of the tuning rule, it has been shown that the closed loop system is stable. An example is included to illustrate the use of the proposed methods and encouraging results have been obtained.

A robust H-infinity hybrid state observerdesign method for a class of nonlinear systems is put forward. Suppose that there exist finite candidate observers in a given set of observers, and none of the individual observers is robust H-infinity observer which makes the error system of nonlinear system stabilizable with H-infinity disturbance attenuation. The problem is to design a switching law under which the switched observation process remains robustly stable and the specified upper bound constraint of the L-2 gain from exogenous disturbances to error state outputs is simultaneously guaranteed. Based on single Lyapunov function technique and multiple Lyapunov function technique, respectively, two sufficient conditions for the switched nonlinear error systems to be stabilizable with H-infinity disturbance attenuation are derived and the gain matrices of observers are designed. All results are given by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, a simulation example illustrates the main results of this paper.

High-gain observers have been used to estimate derivatives of the output in different applications. These observers have shown great advantages in the design of nonlinear output feedback control of nonlinear systems. However, when disturbances and/or noises are present in the systems, the performance of high-gain observers is degraded. In this paper we try to overcome this deficiency by investigating the applicability of proportional integral (PI) observers. PI observer has successfully been used in LTR design and it has shown the ability of simultaneous estimation of states and disturbances. This paper proposes a new output derivative estimation using PI observer for certain classes of nonlinear systems. Simulation results demonstrate the robustness of PI observers.

One of the difficulties to detect and isolate faults in nonlinear systems via observer-based methods is the design of a residual generator. In this work a procedure to apprach the fault detection and isolation problem in nonlinear systems is proposed. The result is obtained by deriving several subsystems, each subsytem containing information about specific faults, from the plant under consideration. Takagi-Sugeno modelling is used to design fuzzy observers and generate residuals. The detection and isolation task is solved by evaluating these residuals. The advantage of the proposed approach is that the design condition for the observers is relaxed. Furthermore the potential use of decoupling techniques is reinforced. The design methodology is shown using a laboratory three tank system.
