A new type of liquid crystal microlens array (LCMLA) constructed by a single-layered LC materials is proposed. By controlling the applied signal voltage, a gradient electric field distribution is formed in the liquid crystal cavity, and the pointing vectors of the liquid crystal molecules are reoriented according to the formed electric field distribution, thus achieving the regulation of the light beam. The functional area of the basic annular integrated liquid crystal microlens is divided into three layers 1/4 The first layer is the main structural area, including four concentric ring electrode arrays with different radii, and the transparent ITO is selected as the electrode material;The middle layer is a silica insulation layer, and the main function is to insulate the first and third layers;The third layer is an aluminum metal electrode layer, which main function is to effectively isolate the electric field generated by the structural area of the first layer. Compared with traditional LC microlenses driven electrically 1/4 this structure mainly verifies the changes in the spatial electric field in the liquid crystal cavity under the action of the metal electrode baffle. The four concentric rings are modulated by independently driven-out signal voltages, and each ring produces a differentiated effect by applying different signal voltages. Metasurfaces, enabling effective optical modulation of incident lightwave, can be employed as a promising candidate to implement different functions, thus significantly improving the lightwave controllability, validity and system integration. In this paper, the phase and intensity modulation, firstly, of the incident lightwave based on a single nanotip was researched. Then, the metasurface consist of nanotips with different structural parameters was designed according to the grayscale image obtained via diffractive network encoding, so as to realize the extending image depth of field. We demonstrate that the metasurface based on the nanotips antenna can achieve a large image depth range of field exceeding 50μm. The inspection and recognition of readings on pointer instruments are important tasks in power inspection. Due to the diversity and the complex dial information of pointer instruments, the adaptability and low accuracy of existing methods are not enough. In this paper, we proposed a pointer instrument reading recognition algorithm based on local fast matching. Firstly, YOLOv8 is used to locate and segment the instrument in the inspection image. The positions and values of key scale are marked in the template image. Based on the key local information, a mapping relationship is established between the instrument location region in the inspection image and the template image. Then, the Hough transform is used to detect the position of the pointer, map it to the template image, and finally calculate the instrument reading based on the relative positions of the key graduations on the template image and the mapped pointer position. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a relative error within 5% for pointer instrument reading recognition in indoor substations. © 2024 SPIE.

The automatic inspection of photovoltaic panels based on infrared images is one of the important tasks in the daily maintenance of photovoltaic panels in photovoltaic power plants. In this paper, a defect detection method of infrared thermal image photovoltaic panel based on morphological segmentation is proposed. First of all, according to the infrared characteristics of the photovoltaic plant station and the morphological characteristics of the photovoltaic panel, the accurate region of each photovoltaic panel is determined in the inspection image. Then, statistical method is used for feature analysis to determine whether there are defects in photovoltaic panels, and then the defective photovoltaic panels are segmented and different defects are classified according to morphological characteristics, and finally the defect detection and classification of photovoltaic panels are realized. Through the experiment in the actual inspection image of photovoltaic plant station, it is verified that the proposed method has a high accuracy of defect detection and recognition. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. To a certain extent, foreign objects on road surfaces can cause damage to vehicles and increase the risk of accidents, which is even more immeasurably harmful in such special scenarios as airports. Effective detection of foreign objects on road surfaces is of great significance to airport flight safety and road safety maintenance. Due to the traditional watershed segmentation method in the recognition of foreign objects, there are obvious over-segmentation, noise complexity and so on. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved watershed segmentation method based on Lab-color space using image filtering techniques and morphological operations to initially separate the image foreground and background, combined with Adaptive Gaussian thresholding, labeling method for detection. This effectively solves the problem of over-segmentation, can better suppress image noise, and accurately detects foreign objects on road surfaces. © 2024 SPIE.

To effectively remove noise from the point clouds obtained for road surface defect detection while preserving the feature information, a bilateral filtering algorithm based on curvature features is proposed for denoising road surface defect point clouds. First, divide the noise points in the point cloud into several regions based on their distribution characteristics and curvature features. Then use statistical filtering to remove noise points in the obvious noise area and the flat area. Finally, an improved bilateral filtering algorithm is applied to smooth the noise points in the complex detail area. © 2024 SPIE.

When the wave-vector matching criteria is satisfied, the incident light can excite the surface plasmon on the surface of the metallic micro-nano arrays, as to form the resonant surface electromagnetic field. From the perspective of surface charge rearrangement, we propose interfinger-type metal grating and cover the grating with graphene to manipulate the polarization response of light waves. By using FDTD software, we simulate the transmittance of the structure to the infrared light with different polarization angles, and analyze the local electric field distribution at the edge of the grating. According to the simulation results, the metal grating with graphene can manipulate the light wave transmission well, absorbing the polarization component parallel to the grating's long axis and passing through the polarization component perpendicular to the grating's long axis. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. With the rapid development of artificial neural network (ANN), the field of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) target recognition has witnessed significant progress. However, due to the poor interpretability and ease of being affected by speckle noise, it brings challenges to ANN for SAR target recognition. Spiking Neural Network (SNN) has emerged as the third-generation neural network architecture and presents promising prospects for various applications. This study aims to explore the performance of SNN in SAR target recognition. In our experiments, we achieved comparable performance to conventional neural networks by utilizing directly trained SNN. This indicates the effectiveness of SNN in coping with SAR target recognition tasks. Moreover, we investigated the impact of different spiking encoders on SAR target recognition. Specifically, we compared the performance of SNN using the Poisson encoder and utilizing the first layer of the SNN as an encoder. This comparison provides valuable insights into the optimal coding strategy for SNN-based SAR target recognition. Additionally, we examined the robustness of SNNs in the presence of strong speckle noise. Our findings demonstrate that SNN can maintain good performance under the influence of strong speckle noise. The outcomes of this research shed light on the potential of SNN as a powerful tool for SAR target recognition. Future studies can focus on exploring SNN's applicability to SAR Interpretation. © 2024 SPIE.

When in an environment with insufficient light, RGB images cannot provide clear pedestrian information, while multispectral thermal imaging can provide accurate positioning information. Therefore, multispectral object detection is more reliable and robust in the open world. Most fusion methods for existing multispectral object detection are static, that is, after the network is trained, all the modalities of each piece of data are input into the network to perform static inference. However, when the light is good enough or the light is very dark, multi-spectral input will bring unnecessary noise interference and computational redundancy. Therefore, a dynamic fusion network (EDFNet) is proposed to selectively fuse RGB and thermal data, so that the network can efficiently perform multispectral fusion and improve the accuracy of object detection. The gating function included in the fusion network is able to perform modality-level decisions based on multimodal features, enabling dynamic inference on data. The Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that the proposed fusion method can reduce the computation costs and obtain comparable detection performance. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.
