This paper proposes a multiple description image coding scheme based on 2D dual-tree transform and the enhanced x-tree encoding method. The input image is firstly mapped into 2D dual-tree discrete wavelet domain to form 2 wavelet coefficient trees. A sparse algorithm is then used to remove the most redundant wavelet coefficients resulted from dual-tree discrete wavelet transform (DDWT), forming the basic component of both descriptions, respectively. In order to improve the quality of the side reconstruction, a side sparse algorithm is then imposed on two sparse coefficient trees to produce the additional for both side decoding. The basic information from one tree and additional information from the other are sent to an enhanced x-tree encoder, which is proposed to exploit the strong correlation between two wavelet trees resulted from DDWT, forming the bitstream of a description. Since each description includes the basic information and part of details of the input image, even one of the descriptions gets lost, the reconstructed image can still keep acceptable quality. Simulation results have verified that the proposed algorithm has good coding performance and error resilient ability.

This paper presents a new secure multiple text and image watermarking scheme on cover eye image using fusion of discrete wavelet transforms (DWT) and singular value decomposition (SVD) for Teleophthalmology. Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA-512) is used for generating hash corresponding to iris part of the cover digital eye image and this unique hash parameter is used for enhancing the security feature of the proposed watermarking technique. Simultaneous embedding of four different watermarks (i.e. Signature, index, caption and reference watermark) in form of image and text using fusion of discrete wavelet transforms (DWT) and singular value decomposition (SVD) is achieved in this paper. The suggested technique initially divides the digital eye image into Region of interest (ROI) containing iris and Non-Region of interest (NROI) part where the text and image watermarks are embedded into the Non-Region of interest (NROI) part of the DWT cover image. The selection of DWT decomposition level for embedding the text and image watermarks depends on size, different characteristics and robustness requirements of medical watermark. The performance in terms of Normalized Correlation (NC) and bit error rate (BER) of the developed scheme is evaluated and analyzed against known signalprocessing attacks and 'Checkmark' attacks. The method is found to be robust against all the considered attacks. The proposed multilevel watermarking method correctly extracts the embedded watermarks without error and is robust against the all considered attacks without significant degradation of the medical image quality of the watermarked image. Therefore the proposed method may find potential application in secure and compact medical data transmission for teleophthalmology applications.

In this paper a three dimensional discrete wavelet transform (3D-DWT) based feature extraction for the classification of facial hyperspectral imagery is proposed. Most of the relevant work processes 2-D slices of hyperspectral images separately;3D-DWT has the advantage of extracting the spatial and spectral information simultaneously. Decomposing an image into a set of spatial-spectral components is an important characteristic of 3D-DWT. We propose two methods for 3D-DWT feature extraction, namely, 3D subband energy (3D-SE) and 3D subband overlapping cube (3D-SOC). Extracted feature vector datasets are processed through k-NN classifier and their performance is evaluated under three different testing scenarios. The experimental results revealed that hyperspectral face recognition with proposed 3D-DWT methods substantially outperforms the methods used in spatial-spectral classification reported in the literature.

The modification of digital content becomes easier owing to the technology development. The need of authenticating digital content is increasing. Different fragile watermarking methods have been proposed for image authentication. In some applications low complexity algorithm is required, such as real-time and video processingapplications. We propose in this paper, a fragile watermarking scheme for image authentication using Faber Schauder Discrete wavelet Transform (FSDWT) and Singular Value decomposition (SVD) where the data to be embedded is a logo. The Watermark was generated by applying XOR operation between the logo's bits and the bits of dominant blocks singular values of the image to authenticate. These dominant blocks are obtained by applying FSDWT to that image. Any image modification will result in significant change of the dominant blocks singular values, which helps the watermarking scheme to detect the authenticity of the image. Furthermore, FSDWT is composed of simple operations, hence, the algorithm has a low complexity.
