This paper highlights the extension of dwt-svd based image watermarking to medical images. In recent times internet has become a primary source of communication between the diagnostics center and the remote doctor located at some hospital. With the use of internet come the problem of data authenticity and the responsibility of the medical practitioner to preserve sensitive information of patients contained in the medical images related to that particular patient. Hence we have made an attempt to solve this problem by using dwtsvd based watermarking technique used for normal images. For medical images quality preservation is obligatory we have used 2D lifting wavelet transform (LWT) instead of dyadic 2D discrete wavelet transform. To test our algorithm we used computer tomography (CT) images as the original images. The watermark is chosen as patient picture which is hidden in a CT medical image while transmitting through internet. The results show that after attacks lwt-svd method gives satisfactory quality both visually and mathematically.

W-operators are a nonlinear class of locally defined and translation invariant image operators. A W-operator is completely defined and represented by a characteristic function, or classifier, that maps a set of window observations to a set of labels. In this work, we propose a new approach to design W-operators for grayscale imageprocessing. In the proposed approach, we constrain both the space of characteristic functions using artificial feed-forward neural networks and the space of observations using the 2-D Haar wavelet transform. The goal of these constraints is to reduce the cost of design and improve the performance of W-operators for practical applications. Based on this approach, a family or set of W-operators is designed and then combined into a single operator using an ensemble method. We evaluated the performance of this approach in the segmentation of blood vessels in ocular images of the DRIVE database. The results show the suitability of this approach: It outperforms W-operators based on logistic regression without any constraint in the space of observations;aperture filters designed using support vector machines and pyramidal multiresolution, and a fast segmentation using the local thresholding method of Otsu.

A new fusion method based on bilateral pyramid for multispectral and panchromatic images is presented. Bilateral pyramid is a multiscale decomposition method which can decompose an input image into a base layer representing the low frequency content and several detail layers representing the high frequency part of the image. The fused image is obtained by three different rules: substitutive, additive and additive luminance proportional methods. The proposed methods are compared with the widely used IHS (intensity-hue-saturation) and ATWT based fusion methods. The resulting images as well as evaluation metrics demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better performance.

Moving object detection is a fundamental task on intelligent video surveillance systems, because it provides a focus of attention for further investigation. Thus, video object segmentation, which extracts the shape information of moving object from a video sequence, is a key operation for surveillance system. In this study, the current state-of-the-art in moving objects segmentation for intelligent video surveillance has been surveyed. An efficient modified directional lifting-based 9/7 discrete wavelet transform (MDLDWT) structure is proposed to further reduce the computational cost and preserve the fine shape information in low resolution image. Although perfect moving object detection in a practical environment is a challenging task due to the vague object shape issues in the low resolution configuration, the experimental results document that the proposed low-complexity MDLDWT scheme can provide more precise detection rate for multiple moving objects, and the fine shape information can be effectively preserved for the real-time video surveillance applications in both indoor and outdoor environments. Hiding data into images can be referred to as a constrained optimization problem. Hence, we proposed a reversible genetic watermarking scheme based on the wavelet packet transform in this paper. Genetic algorithm is used to select an appropriate basis from permissible bases of wavelet packet transform to increase the robustness of the embedded data, and the binary string to be hidden is embedded into middle and high frequency coefficients of the wavelet packet transform. The scheme to embed each binary value a modified version of "difference expansion". Experimental results show that the proposed method can resist some imageprocessing methods, such as sharping operation, while keeping cover image quality and the amount of hidden data acceptable in real world applications.

In order to improve the image analysis ability in some practical applications, an image fusion algorithm was proposed. This algorithm combined information from multiple images of the same scene in pixel level. Firstly, a group of lifting morphological wavelets for image fusion was discussed. Then using one of the schemes, multiple images were shift in different direction and decomposed respectively. Next, the transform coefficients were processed according to certain fusion criterion and some fusion results could be obtained through inverse transform and inverse displacement. Finally, such fused images were filtered to be one image we need. Computer simulation shows this algorithm in morphological wavelet domain can fuse grayscale images or color images effectively. Compared with the conventional wavelet transform, it gets a more complete and clearer scene.

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) technique retrieves relevant images based on extracted features from image contents. Latent semantic indexing (LSI) is used as a semantic model in the CBIR field. This paper investigates the capability of LSI-based CBIR in dealing with different types of image noise, and the impact of noise on the retrieval results. To construct the feature-image matrix (FIM) in the proposed LSI framework, three wavelet-based methods are used to extract texture feature: Gabor wavelet, Daubechies wavelet, and wavelet moments. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated by a predefined accuracy measure. The results show that the LSI-based CBIR achieves a high level of accuracy with the original image database, and still performs very well in dealing with different types of image noise.

This paper presents a low power and high speed 3D-DWT (three-dimensional discrete wavelet transform) architecture for image compression. With the recent expansion of multimedia applications and the need for delivering compressed bit streams over heterogeneous networks, scalability has become an important feature for video coders. The 3-D discrete wavelet transform provides a natural spatial resolution and frame rate scalability. Scalability is achieved in tern poral and spatial resolutions, as well as in quality. The advantages of this scheme when they are compared with those of existing ones are in terms of complexity, low power, high throughput, low latency and minimum storage requirement. The proposed architecture has been successfully implemented on Xilinx Spartan 3E series field-programmable gate array, suitable for real-time compression.
