Recently the digital still camera (DSC) has achieved remarkable progress especially in terms of pixel numbers, and 3 mega-pixel cameras have become the main stream. This is owing to the progress of semi-conductor processing technology and DSC market demand. On the other hand, there are some problems accompanying increase of pixel numbers, for example degradation of S/N and increase of shooting interval. For the product described here we have applied miniaturization processing technology to incresing the dynamic range and have developed a Super Dynamic Range imageprocessing System using a new structure CCD, in which a pair of different-type photodiodes is arranged under a micro lens that is located on the top surface. This makes it possible to capture a high contrast scene in which dynamic range is about 400%, and we have achieved distinct images of difficult scenes for a DSC to reproduce such as backlight scenes, short range stroke light photography, etc. Here, we explain the new CCD and LSIs which realize the super dynamic imageprocessing system, and its algorithm.

Recently the lake area detection has been a popular topic for time series remote sensing images analysis. The two-dimensional Markov model is one of the efficient mathematical models to describe an image especially when the within-object interpixel correlation varies significantly from object to object. The unsupervised Region Growing is a powerful image segmentation method for use in shape classification and analysis. In this paper, the Region Growing method based on two-dimensional Autoregressive Moving Average (ARMA) model is proposed for lake region detections. Some of the statistical techniques, such as Gaussian distributed white noise error confidence interval. and sample statistics based on mean and variance properties have been used for thresholding during calculations. The linear regression analysis with least mean squares estimation is still of ongoing interest for statistical research and applications especially with the remote sensing images. The LANDSAT 5 database in the area of Italy's Lake Mulargias acquired in July 1996 was used for the computing experiments with satisfactory preliminary results.

Sofradir is one of the leading companies worldwide for the production of second-generation InfraRed (IR) detectors based on more than 10,000 Time Delay and Integration (TDI) array deliveries up to date! This success is mainly due to the top quality of the unique and production oriented French HgCdTe technology for manufacturing InfraRed Focal Plane Arrays (IRFPA). Although it is easy to get an image with 2D staring arrays in comparison with TDI linear arrays, it is more difficult to answer the full system needs in terms of high performances in very tough environmental conditions. However. cooled 2D arrays are more and more used in both IR medium and long wavebands for many different applications and Sofradir has moved to large quantity production for 2.5 generation IR detectors (320x256 format) since 2001. Fast and performance scalable motion estimation algorithms for compression of moving pictures are widely required for real time video encoding applications. Most of the existing fast algorithms such as three step search (TSS) and new three step search (NTSS) are application dependent and do not provide any flexibility in controlling the quality of service (QoS) in terms of predicted image quality and computational complexity. The authors have addressed these issues by proposing a novel motion estimation algorithm by introducing the concept of a distance dependent thresholding search (DTS). Though, the performance of DTS algorithm was well for low motion video sequences, it was not so satisfactory for high motion video sequences. In this paper, DTS algorithm has been modified into adaptive-centre diamond search distance-dependent thresholding search (ADSDTS) algorithm by incorporating a diamond-search pattern instead of square search pattern in DTS algorithm, and adaptively predicting the initial search center for each current block, for trading off quality and processing speed. Experimental results show that the proposed ADSDTS algorithm that provides the full flexibility for performance management in motion estimation for video coding, also outperforms the fast TSS, NTSS, and adaptive centre NTSS (ACNTSS) algorithms by reducing the computational time with all motion types video sequences.

The Internet is a continuously expanding source of multimedia content and information. There are many products in development to search, retrieve, and understand multimedia content. But most of the current image search/retrieval engines, rely on a image database manually pre-indexed with keywords. Computers are still powerless to understand the semantic meaning of still or animated image content. Piria (Program for the Indexing and Research of images by Affinity), the search engine we have developed brings this possibility closer to reality. Piria is a novel search engine that uses the query by example method. A user query is submitted to the system, which then returns a list of images ranked by similarity, obtained by a metric distance that operates on every indexed image signature. These indexed images are compared according to several different classifiers, not only Keywords, but also Form, Color and Texture, taking into account geometric transformations and variance like rotation, symmetry, mirroring, etc. Form - Edges extracted by an efficient segmentation algorithm. Color - Histogram, semantic color segmentation and spatial color relationship. Texture - Texture wavelets and local edge patterns. If required, Piria is also able to fuse results from multiple classifiers with a new classification of index categories: Single Indexer Single Call (SISC), Single Indexer Multiple Call (SIMC), Multiple Indexers Single Call (MISC) or Multiple Indexers Multiple Call (MIMC). The aim of this paper is to present a high data rate transmission system through the ionospheric channel in the HF band (3-30 MHz). The applications expected in this study are image transmission and real-time videoconferencing. Very high rates are required compared to the standard modems (4.8 kbits/s). Therefore. an array processing performs in the multi channel receiving system. Its main originality stands in the development of a compact device of collocated antennas. the spatial responses of which are different one from each other. Besides. synchronization (Zero Crossing Detector) and spatio temporal equalization (L.M.S. algorithm) as well resort to classical and well-tested techniques involving training sequences. An experimental radio link has been under test with a range of 800 km. The corresponding results underlines the improvement of the bit transfer rate which reaches 20 kbits/s (QAM 16 in a 6 kHz bandwidth) or 30 kbits/s (QAM 16 in a 9 kHz bandwidth). With the development of hardware, ID signal matching can be implemented with hardware to make fast processing more feasible. This is especially important for many real-time 3D vision applications such as unmanned air vehicles and mobile robots. When lighting variance is not significant in a controlled lighting environment or when the baseline is short, images taken from two viewpoints are quite similar. It is also true for each scan line pair if the attention is drawn to ID signal. By processing ID signal line by line, a dense disparity map can be achieved and 3D scene can be reconstructed. In this paper, we present a robust ID signal matching method, which combines spline representation and genetic algorithm to obtain a dense disparity map. By imposing smoothness constraint implicitly, matching parameters can be solved in terms of their spline representations by minimizing a certain cost function. Genetic algorithm can then be used to perform the optimization task. Reconstruction results of three different scene settings are shown to prove the validity of our algorithm. Due to the similarity of the problem in nature, this algorithm can be easily extended to solve image registration and motion detection problems.

The Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) MO of a Point Spread Function (PSF) O can be measured with the aid of special transparent image. PSF O of passive radio vision system can be measured for a point source. If Y is the ortho-normal system of Fourier harmonics in a small domain, then PSF O and MTF MO are connected by the eigen-values problem relative convolution and multiplication operations: O*Y=MO Y. We may introduce MTF MR of resolving function R: R*Y=MR Y and MTF MRO of (R*O): R*O*Y= MRO Y. We have [1] equality: MRO = MR MO in the frequency small domain. Ultra-resolution method gives point results of resolution and it is the most effective and stable method in order to increase resolution at present time.
