In the processing of infrared small target image which has low signal-to-noise ratio and complex background, the target detection and recognition are very hard. So, how to suppress infrared complex background in low signal-to-clutter addition becomes the key problem in the detection of infrared small target image. The topological derivative can quantify the sensitivity of a problem when the domain under consideration is perturbed by changing its topology. Considering the idea of topology optimization, a modified topological derivative based background suppression method for infrared dim small target detection was proposed. An appropriate functional and variational problem is related to the cost function. Thus, the corresponding topological derivative can be used as an indicator function leads to the processed image through a minimization process. Firstly, introduce perturbations to each pixel of the infrared image. Secondly, calculate the corresponding topological derivative. These pixels also have the least cost function. Finally, using the modified optimal diffusion coefficient to diffuse the pixels where the topological derivative is negative to make its background smooth and achieve the purpose of removing the background clutter while enhancing the small target. Compared with other several experiment results of existing background suppressing methods in indexes, the method the paper proposed has innovative ideas and gets well effects of background suppressing and are practical methods. All of above have the important research value for the related work in future.

Approximate computing has a very important contribution in the multimedia world. Approximate computing consists of arithmetic circuits such as adder, multiplier etc. Which are based on the approximate technique or error tolerant application. These arithmetic circuits have high efficiency and better performance, but less accurate. In an electronic world, many applications are used such as signal processing, network signaling, image processing, neural networks where multiplier is used as an arithmetic circuit. In this way, approximate multiplier shows some mean error which is not so important at large. This multiplier makes significant improvements in power, delay, and area at the expense of reducing accuracy. The approximate multiplier is to use less power and area than conventional truncated multiplier, and keep high speed. Its main purpose is to speed up the speed of arithmetic circuits as well as spend low power. A lot of process is being taken to fulfill this objective Like ETM (Error tolerant Multiplier), UDM (Under designed Multiplier), AWTM (Approx Wallace Tree Multiplier), AM (Approx Multiplier). In this paper, the approximate Booth Multiplier has been designed which works on error tolerant multiplication (ETM) technology and provides high performance for the DSP application. This Error Tolerant Application easily restrict on accuracy and achieve various improvement in power consumption and speed accuracy. A new type of approximate multiplier has been designed in this multiplier which can increase the speed by reducing the partial product of the traditional multiplier. According to this paper is to design such a high-speed radix signed approximate booth multiplier which provides significant improvements in power, delay and area at low cost performance in accuracy.

The 2D non-separable linear canonical transform (2D-NS-LCT) can model a range of various paraxial optical systems. Digital algorithms to evaluate the 2D-NS-LCTs are important in modeling the light field propagations and also of interest in many digital signal processing applications. In [Zhao 14] we have reported that a given 2D input image with rectangular shape/boundary, in general, results in a parallelogram output sampling grid (generally in an affine coordinates rather than in a Cartesian coordinates) thus limiting the further calculations, e.g. inverse transform. One possible solution is to use the interpolation techniques;however, it reduces the speed and accuracy of the numerical approximations. To alleviate this problem, in this paper, some constraints are derived under which the output samples are located in the Cartesian coordinates. Therefore, no interpolation operation is required and thus the calculation error can be significantly eliminated.

Medical applications like Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Tomography (MRT) often require an efficient scalable representation of their huge output volumes in the further processing chain of medical routine. A downscaled version of such a signal can be obtained by using image and video coders based on wavelet transforms. The visual quality of the resulting lowpass band, which shall be used as a representative, can be improved by applying motion compensation methods during the transform. This paper presents a new approach of using the distorted edge lengths of a mesh-based compensated grid instead of the approximated intensity values of the underlying frame to perform a motion compensation. We will show that an edge adaptive graph-based compensation and its usage for compensated wavelet lifting improves the visual quality of the lowpass band by approximately 2.5 dB compared to the traditional mesh-based compensation, while the additional filesize required for coding the motion information doesn't change.

Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) have found a practical use in multiple applications of digital signal processing including image compression. Despite a set of advantages, DWT is still weakly used in modern video compression technique and systems. Latent fingerprints on banknotes provide valuable information in forensic applications to identify suspects of robbery cases and counterfeiters. The image quality of latent fingerprints is poor due to the complex background of banknotes compared to live-scan images acquired in a controlled environment. An effective orientation field estimation algorithm is necessary for enhancing poor quality latents in the presence of background noise for reliable extraction of minutia features. There have been attempts in the literature to characterize a fingerprint using an AM-FM model. Motivated by the ability of the monogenic signal representation to demodulate such a signal to extract its features, this paper proposes a novel algorithm of latent fingerprint multiresolution orientation estimation with a modified Simoncelli isotropic wavelet design and by an appropriate use of the multiresolution orientation field. Experimental results on synthetic noisy images and real latents from our created latent fingerprint database on banknotes show that the enhanced image quality by using the proposed algorithm is better than the other existing methods for estimating the fingerprint orientation.

Many wavelet design techniques build adaptive wavelets from existing wavelets. However, most of the techniques do not design wavelet directly of the signal of interest. Conventional signal dependent transforms are Karhunen-Loeve transform and Singular Value Decomposition whose basis function depends on statistics of an input signal. signal-dependent transform is considered to be best among all linear transformations with respect to energy compaction. Likewise, wavelets are best known for image compression, many researchers are interested in using wavelets for detection or recognition. Choosing appropriate wavelet for a given application is a challenging task. Therefore, there is a need of designing wavelet to match a signal shape which increases performance for detection or identification applications. J. Chapa and R. Rao [15] have introduced algorithms for designing wavelet to match the signal shape. The construction of direct wavelet function which will look like the signal and whose family of 2 (-p/2) psi (2 (-p)t - q) wavelets generate an orthonormal Riesz basis of L-2 (R) are established. In this method, numerical algorithms are used for finding matched wavelet amplitude spectra and group delays using sampled data which are signal dependent wavelets. Orthonormal scaling function (father wavelet function) is obtained by applying orthonormal multiresolution analysis (OMRA) conditions on input signal.

Affine shear tight frames with 2-layer structure in arbitrary dimensions are constructed. Affine shear filter banks with 2-layer structure associated with affine shear tight frames with 2-layer structure are designed and show to be with the perfect reconstruction property. The redundancy rate and computational complexity of affine shear filter banks are discussed. applications to video denoising are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the affine shear filter banks with 2-layer structure.

In photon-limited image reconstruction, the behavior of noise at the detector end is more accurately modeled as a Poisson point process than the common choice of a Gaussian distribution. As such, to recover the original signal more accurately, a penalized negative Poisson log-likelihood function and not a least-squares function is minimized In many applications, including medical imaging, additional information on the signal of interest is often available. Specifically, its maximum and minimum amplitudes might be known a priori. This paper describes an approach that incorporates this information into a sparse photon-limited recovery method by the inclusion of upper and lower bound constraints. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach on two different low-light deblurring examples.
