Iris recognition system for identity authentication and verification is one of the most precise and accepted biometrics in the world. Portable iris system mostly used in law enforcement applications, has been increasing more rapidly. The portable device, however, requires a narrow-bandwidth communication channel to transmit iris code or iris image. Though a full resolution of iris image is preferred for accurate recognition of individual, to minimize time in a narrow-bandwidth channel for emergency identification, image compression should be used to minimize the size of image. This paper has investigated the effects of compression particularly for iris image based on wavelet transformed image, using Spatial-orientation tree wavelet (STW), Embedded Zero tree Wavelet (EZW) and Set Partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT), to identify the most suitable image compression. In this paper, Haar wavelet transform is utilized for image compression and image decomposition, by varying the decomposition level. The results have been examined in terms of Peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), Mean square Error (MSE), Bit per Pixel Ratio (BPP) and Compression ratio (CR). It has been evidently found that wavelet transform is more effective in the image compression, as recognition performance is minimally affected and the use of Haar transform is ideally suited. CASIA, MMU iris database have been used for this purpose.

The development and widespread deployment of easy to use image editing tools has increased image forgery operations in recent years. Many methods have been proposed in the literature to detect the copy move operation, one of the most widely used forgery techniques. Methods exhibit differences from one another by the way they used to represent sub-blocks in the image. One of the most important problems for all techniques in use is to decide the threshold value to use in order to detect similarity successfuly. In this work, DCT energy probability values of overlapping sub-blocks are used to construct feature vectors of size 1x10. Using a similarity ratio instead of trying to decide a static threshold is an advantage of the method compared to similar techniques. The proposed method yields better results compared to other DCT based methods under attacks (such as JPEG compression and blurring) to hide clues of forgery.

In this paper, we mainly discuss one of the recent developed directional multiscale representation systems: smooth affine shear tight frames. A directional wavelet tight frame is generated by isotropic dilations and translations of directional wavelet generators, while an affine shear tight frame is generated by anisotropic dilations, shears, and translations of shearlet generators. These two tight frames are actually connected in the sense that the affine shear tight frame can be obtained from a directional wavelet tight frame through subsampling. Consequently, an affine shear tight frame indeed has an underlying filter bank from the MRA structure of its associated directional wavelet tight frame. We call such filter banks affine shear filter banks, which can be designed completely in the frequency domain. We discuss the digitization of affine shear filter banks and their implementations: the forward and backward digital affine shear transforms. Redundancy rate and computational complexity of digital affine shear transforms are also investigated in this paper. Numerical experiments and comparisons in image/video processing show the advantages of digital affine shear transforms over many other stat-of-art directional multiscale representation systems.

In this paper, we propose a hardware compatible queue-based image segmentation algorithm for refining initial depth maps obtained from light field cameras. In the algorithm, an array is created to record the ranges of positions and intensities of possible segments, which make following segment merging steps much more efficient. An ASIC chip based on the proposed algorithm with a plane fitting calculator is implemented using TSMC 90 nm technology. A 20x speed-up is achieved when comparing the results to the software version.

Several techniques are introduced and reviewed in high-definition computer holography. The reconstructed object is usually CG-modeled virtual objects, but it is possible to digitally record light of physical objects and reconstruct it by the high-definition computer-generated hologram. The process can be considered as a sort of digital signal processing of light.

As advances in imaging technologies make more and more data available for biomedical applications, there is an increasing need to develop efficient quantitative algorithms for the analysis and processing of imaging data. In this paper, we introduce an innovative multiscale approach called Directional Ratio which is especially effective to distingush isotropic from anisotropic structures. This task is especially useful in the analysis of images of neurons, the main units of the nervous systems which consist of a main cell body called the soma and many elongated processes called neurites. We analyze the theoretical properties of our method on idealized models of neurons and develop a numerical implementation of this approach for analysis of fluorescent images of cultured neurons. We show that this algorithm is very effective for the detection of somas and the extraction of neurites in images of small circuits of neurons.

Recently several papers reported efficient techniques to compress digital holograms. Typically, the rate-distortion performance of these solutions was evaluated by means of objective metrics such as Peak signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) or the Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) by either evaluating the quality of the decoded hologram or the reconstructed compressed hologram. Seen the specific nature of holograms, it is relevant to question to what extend these metrics provide information on the effective visual quality of the reconstructed hologram. Given that today no holographic display technology is available that would allow for a proper subjective evaluation experiment, we propose in this paper a methodology that is based on assessing the quality of a reconstructed compressed hologram on a regular 2D display. In parallel, we also evaluate several coding engines, namely JPEG configured with the default perceptual quantization tables and with uniform quantization tables, JPEG 2000, JPEG 2000 extended with arbitrary packet decompositions and direction-adaptive filters and H.265/HEVC configured in intra-frame mode. The experimental results indicate that the perceived visual quality and the objective measures are well correlated. Moreover, also the superiority of the HEVC and the extended JPEG 2000 coding engines was confirmed, particularly at lower bitrates.

Phase-space representations (PSRs) of a signal contain the signal's spatial and local frequency information, providing a powerful tool to describe both coherent and incoherent light and its propagation in optical systems. Because of this, PSRs are widely employed in the characterization of imaging systems, phase retrieval, image processing, and, in particular, they are closely related to the fundamental theory of light field. In this manuscript, we review our recent works on phase-space optics, with particular focusing on its applications in computational imaging and optical image processing.

In this work we aimed to Least Significant Bit (LSB) based information hiding over video files using Koblitz's Method over Elliptic Curve Cryptography. After which the message to be sent to the recipient converted into ASCII characters, single index characters are encrypted by Koblitz's Method, (x, y) pairs obtained, and it is assumed that these pairs (x, y) express as a coordinate points. The pixel value on the relevant frame of single index points replaced with next double index ASCII character's binary value using LSB method. After repeating the same process for all characters in the message, the message is hidden into the video frames.

The Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) has a huge number of applications in science and engineering technology. It is used for signal coding, to represent a discrete signal in a more redundant form, often as a preconditioning for data compression. Practical applications can also be found in signal processing, digital communications and many others. There are several techniques available for DWT like orthogonal, bi-orthogonal, HAAR, Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform, and Newland transform. A multiplier-less based architecture on algebraic integer representation for computing the Daubechies6-tap wavelet transform is used for two level 2D-DWT as wavelet filters in image processing. This architecture improves on previous designs in a way that it minimizes the number of parallel 2-input adder circuits. In this paper the design is implemented for a two-level 2-D decomposition using a xilinx Virtex-6 xc6vcx75t-2-ff484 field programmable gate array (FPGA) device operating at up to a maximum clock frequency of 344/168 MHz.
