Time-lenses in general proved to be useful for many applications and specifically when utilizing them for temporal imaging schemes where they can image ultrafast signals that cannot be detected by any electronic based device. Over the last few years, we demonstrated that when joining together several time-lenses into a single time-lens array, it is possible to gain more information on the input signal. Such as measuring temporal depth imaging, the state of polarization of the input signal as a function of time, and retrieving the phase dynamics. However, when designing an array of time-lenses, there is a trade-off between joining large number of small time-lenses, so each signal will interact with many time-lenses but each one has low resolution, and joining small number of large time-lenses, so each has better temporal resolution but on the expanse of interacting with smaller number of time-lenses in the array. We showed that one way to overcome this drawback is to overlap adjacent timelenses. Thus it is possible to both have large number of time-lenses without compromising on the size of each time-lens and obtaining high temporal resolution. In this proceeding, we overlap two time-lenses and measure the spectrum of the idler. We compare the numerical simulations of the frequency domain of the idler to the measured spectrum of the idler.

Thanks to the freely availability of several Satellite image Time Series (SITS) covering the Earth, it is now possible to monitor and analyse Land Covers (LC) and Land Cover Changes ( LCC) on a yearly or even longer time span. Such applications are relevant in the context of Climate Change (CC), where consequences of the changes can only be seen on long term. Nevertheless, SITS suffer from atmospheric condition related problems (when talking about passive sensors) that reduce the temporal resolution of images in SITS. Several methods have been proposed in literature to mitigate these problems, and are placed under gap filling or SITS fitting methods. Such methods generally work with a single feature, being it a radiometric index or a spectral band. The use of multiple features is limited to specific single LC class or satellite sensor, limiting its usage in LCC and CC. Thus, in this paper, we propose an approach that is automatic, and both LC and feature independent. Here we propose the use of Normalized Difference Indices (NDI), with combination of all available spectral bands. The proposed approach uses a dropout upper-envelope strategy to reconstruct SITS trends, based on a set of rules, and guarantees a smoother closer trend to that of the original data. The proposed approach has been applied over two regions (Amazonia and Saudi Arabia) in the period 2013-2017, and has been compared to other fitting methods: Cubic Splines and Univariate Splines. It has been further evaluated by detecting LCC with long SITS methods such as Breaks For Additive Seasonal and Trend (BFAST). The preliminary results are promising demonstrating the robustness of the approach across different LCs and across different features.

Grating displacement measurement technology has been widely used in the field of position detection technology. In order to accurately measure the linear displacement of an object, a contactless displacement measurement technique is proposed. The single grating displacement sensing structure is adopted, and the interference fringes are collected by the linear array CCD camera driven by FPGA (field programmable gate array). The collected grating fringe signals are denoised, counted and subdivided based on DSP (digital signal processor). In this method, the subsequent circuit is simplified since the subdivision and digitization are completed with image capture by CCD simultaneously and the automatic real-time measurement of the target to be measured is realized. At the same time, the precision of the system is analyzed deeply.

Frames are the foundation of the linear operators used in the decomposition and reconstruction of signals, such as the discrete Fourier transform, Gabor, wavelets, and curvelet transforms. The emergence of sparse representation models has shifted the emphasis in frame theory toward sparse-norm minimization problems. In this paper, we apply frame theory to the sparse representation of signals, wherein a frame is used for synthesis dictionary and a dual frame is used for analysis dictionary. Our objective was to formulate a novel dual-frame design in which the sparse vector obtained through the decomposition of any signal is also the sparse solution representing signals based on a reconstruction frame. Our findings demonstrate that this type of dual frame cannot be constructed for overcomplete frames, thereby precluding the use of any linear analysis operator to derive the sparse synthesis coefficient for signal representation. We also developed a novel dictionary learning algorithm (called Parseval K-SVD) to learn a tight-frame dictionary with normalized atoms. We then dealt with the problem of signal representation using frames from the analysis and synthesis perspective to derive optimization formulations for problems pertaining to image recovery. Our preliminary results demonstrate that the images recovered using this approach are correlated with the frame bounds of dictionaries, thereby demonstrating the importance of using different dictionaries for different applications.

In many applications, there are multiple interacting entities, generating time series of data over the space. To describe the relation within the set of data, the underlying topology may be used. In many real applications, not only the signal/data of interest is measured in noise, but it is also contaminated with outliers. The proposed method, called RGTL, infers the graph topology from noisy measurements and removes these outliers simultaneously. Here, it is assumed that we have no information about the space graph topology, while we know that graph signal are sampled consecutively in time and thus the graph in time domain is given. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has a better performance for different graph orders, compared with the conventional graph topology inference methods. Due to the nature of stock market data and the presence of noise and high power outliers, the proposed method is also applied to find some relations among selected ticker symbol prices in the USA market.

The number of existing UAVs in the private and commercial sector has steadily increased in recent years and is expected to experience strong growth in the future. However, so far there is little research on the use of UAVs in connection with automated driving. In this paper, we first analyze existing research and the current state of the art in the use of UAVs in the transport sector. Then we list possible potentials how UAVs can be used in the field of automated driving. We focus on the four sub-areas of the transport sector a) surveillance, b) road user detection and tracking, c) wireless communication and V2x and d) infrastructure mapping. The elaborations show that the use of UAVs in all four sub-areas can contribute significantly to enable and safeguard automated driving. In sub-area a), UAVs for example can support intelligent parking space monitoring and enable functions such as automated valet parking. In sub-area b), UAVs are particularly suitable for collecting naturalistic trajectories of road users, which are stored as datasets and serve to develop and safeguard automated driving functions. By using UAVs in sub-area c), long distances can be bridged and new, previously unattainable areas can be made accessible for communication applications. Finally, UAVs can also be used in sub-area d) to easily map new areas or to improve and continuously update existing digital HD maps. It has been further shown in literature that UAVs are partly superior to conventional vehicle environment perception methods due to their low cost factor, their ease of use and especially due to their comparatively large area of sensor coverage.

Data adaptive tight frame methods have been proven a powerful sparse approximation tool in a variety of settings. We introduce a model of a data adaptive representation that also provides a multi-scale structure. Our idea is to design a multi-scale frame representation for a given data set, with scaling properties similar to the ones of a wavelet basis, but without the necessary self-similar structure. The adaptivity provides better sparsity properties, using Besov-like norm structure both induces sparsity and helps in identifying important features. We focus on investigating the efficiency of a weighted l(1) constraint in the context of sparse recovery from noisy data and compare it to the weighted l(0) model alongside. Numerical experiments confirm that the recovered frame vectors assigned lower weights correspond to image elements of larger scale and lower local variation, thus indicating that weighted sparsity in natural images leads to a natural scale separation.

Biological processes such as processive enzyme turnover and intracellular cargo trafficking involve the dynamic motion of a small "particle" along a curvilinear biopolymer track. To understand these processes that occur across multiple length and time scales, one must acquire both the trajectory of the particle and the position of the track along which it moves, possibly by combining high-resolution single-particle tracking with conventional microscopy. Yet, usually there is a significant resolution mismatch between these modalities: while the tracked particle is localized with a precision of 10 nm, the image of the surroundings is limited by optical diffraction, with 200 nm lateral and 500 nm axial resolutions. Compared to the particle's trajectory, the surrounding curvilinear structure appears as a blurred and noisy image. This disparity in the spatial resolutions of the particle trajectory and the surrounding curvilinear structure image makes data reconstruction, as well as interpretation, particularly challenging. Analysis is further complicated when the curvilinear structures are oriented arbitrarily in 3D space. Here, we present a prior-apprised unsupervised learning (PAUL) approach to extract information from 3D images where the underlying features resemble a curved line such as a filament or microtubule. This three-stage framework starts with a Hessian-based feature enhancement, which is followed by feature registration, where local line segments are detected on repetitively sampled subimage tiles. In the final stage, statistical learning, segments are clustered based on their geometric relationships. Principal curves are then approximated from each segment group via statistical tools including principal component analysis, bootstrap and kernel transformation. This procedure is characterized on simulated images, where sub-voxel medium deviations from true curves have been achieved. Speeded-Up Robust Feature (SURF) and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) have been two well-known methods used in extracting features. This paper presents and analyzes performance comparison between the SURF approach and the SIFT technique for content-based image retrieval (CBIR) application. In particular, we are interested in comparing the accuracy and the response time between these two methods. For the testing purposes, we make use sample images obtained for the Pennsylvania State College of Information Science and Technology database. As it turns out, in this paper, we will demonstrate that in terms of accuracy and speed, SURF shows superior performance compared to SIFT.

This paper solves the deblurring problem of local blurred natural images by the proposed self-reference deblurring generative adversarial networks, that is SR-Deblur GAN. The method proposed divides the clear part and the blurred part of picture, and guides the deblurring process of the blurred part with the former. By the novel network architecture and a multi-component loss function, the method achieves better deblurring results both on artificial local blurred images and natural local blurred images than the recently most advanced deblurring generative adversarial networks, i.e. Deblur GAN, obtaining the state-of-the-art. The network can also have application to local inpainting and local translation for images.
