Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), specifically, Large Language models (LLMs), have shown tremendous potential in automating several tasks and improving human productivity. Recent works have shown them to be quite useful in writing and summarizing text (articles, blogs, poems, stories, songs, etc.), answering questions, brainstorming ideas, and even writing code. Several LLMs have emerged specifically targeting code generation. Given a prompt, these LLMs can generate code in any desired programming language. Many tools like ChatGPT, CoPilot, CodeWhisperer, Cody, DeepSeek Coder, StarCoder, etc. are now routinely being used by software developers. However, most of the prior work in automatic code generation using LLMs is focused on obtaining "correct" and working code, and mainly runs on a single computer (serial code). In this paper, we take this to the next level, where LLMs are leveraged to generate code for execution on a distributed infrastructure. We propose a novel system called DiCE, which takes serial code as input and automatically generates distributed version of the code and efficiently executes it on a distributed setup. DiCE consists of two main components (a) LLM-based tool (Synthia) to understand dependencies in serial code and automatically generate distributed version of the code using specialized programming model and semantics, and (b) Runtime (Hermod) to understand the semantics in the distributed code and realize efficient execution on a cluster of machines (distributed infrastructure). DiCE currently focuses on visual programs synthesized by tools like ViperGPT [1] and VisReP [2] (serial code), automatically identifies higher-level task parallelism opportunities (e.g., parallel object detection), transforms the code to exploit the parallelism, and finally efficiently executes it on a cluster of machines. Multi-reservoir coupling approach presented in this work is designed to couple multiple reservoir simulation models sharing a common facility, and provide an alternative solution which does not require re-gridding to create a single grid system. The models to be coupled may have different physics and different computational resources requirement. Moreover, each model can involve large and different historical (100y) period along with long prediction (250y) time periods, large number of cells with thousands of wells, many injection and production targets together with facility, drilling, and workover constraints, as a single system. A typical hydrocarbon simulator is comprised of several components: discretization;input/output;initialization;well-model;solver;and field management are few to mention. In this work, inflow performance relationships (IPR) are used as proxy of well-model, consequently the field management is disconnected from rest of the simulator and is performed using IPR. Each individual reservoir being coupled is run using separate executable, and field management is performed in a unified manner and uses a separate executable. The coupled models are all executed as one combined massively parallel job, where processes are subdivided in groups dedicated for individual reservoirs, and are synchronized using an efficient multi-program and multi-data (MPMD) communication interface. Well level constraints are resolved finding the most limiting bottom hole pressure (BHP) using IPR. Using well-connection graph and subject to various operational constraints and specified allocation strategies, an optimization problem is constructed with BHP as decision variable. Voidage replacement;pressure maintenance;and re-injection have circular dependency on production allocation strategies, and are resolved separately. The optimization problem is solved using sequential quadratic programming. The final solution thus obtained is then converted to group ratio and is reuse

One potential problem when writing parallel programs with OpenMP is to introduce determinacy races where for a given input, the program may unexpectedly produce different final outputs at different runs. Such startling behavior can result from incorrect ordering of OpenMP tasks. We present a method to detect determinacy races in OpenMP tasks at runtime. Based on OpenMP program semantics, our proposed solution models an OpenMP program as a collection of tasks with inferred dependencies among them where a task is implicitly created with a parallel region construct or explicitly created with a task construct. We define happens-before relation among tasks based on such dependencies for determining an execution order when detecting determinacy races. Based on this formalization, we developed a tool, TaskSanitizer, which detects and reports concurrent memory accesses whose tasks do not have common dependencies. Finally, TaskSanitizer works at runtime, has been able to find bugs in micro-benchmarks and it is reasonably efficient to be utilized in a working environment.

We introduce a global scale parallel python modeling platform alongside an example global migration model. Our goals focus on improving social scientist access to computationally robust infrastructure, which enhances a scientist's capability to model more complex macro-scale global effects or larger numbers of micro-scale agents and behaviors. We built the model based on a subset of known social and economic factors to test initial computational scalability which we have kept linear with respect to agent population. Se Jupyter simulation platform and Python programming language allow for a familiar developer and user interface via a standard internet browser with the computation performed remotely on high performance server hardware. We have successfully scaled to seven billion agents on a multi-core large memory server. Se platform has an open license and we are working to enhance modularity for support of new global scale social models.

The boundary and the initial boundary value problems form the basis of numerous mathematical models. Ultimately, the discrete (linearized) boundary and the initial boundary value problems are reduced to the systems of linear algebraic equations with sparse and ill-conditioned coefficient matrix. In modern applications (such as computational fluid dynamics) the number of equations in the system can reach about 10(12) and higher. Just the numerical solution of such systems requires significant computational effort, so an actual problem of modern computational mathematics is working-out, theoretical analysis and testing of high-performance parallel algorithms. The article discusses algebraic, geometric and combined ways to formation of the parallel algorithms. In this work we presented advantages and disadvantages of each ways, the estimate of parallelism's acceleration and efficiency, the comparison of volume of computational work compared with the optimal sequential algorithm, and the results of computational experiments. The peculiarities of parallel algorithms' implementation by using of software and hardware structures for parallel programming were discussed in this work.

This paper proposes an approach for robust scheduling on parallel machines. This approach is based on a combination of robust mathematical and discrete event systems models which are iteratively called in order to converge towards a schedule with the required robustness level defined by the decision maker. Experimentations on a small instance (10 jobs and 2 unrelated machines) and a more complex one (30 jobs and 6 uniform machines) show that this approach permits to converge quickly to a robust schedule even if the probability distribution associated to the uncertainties are not symmetrical. The approach achieves a better rate of convergence than those of the literature's methods.

In this paper, implementation possibilities of a synchronous binary neural model for solving optimization problems in massively parallel hardware are studied. It is argued that synchronous, as opposed to asynchronous models are best suited to the general characteristics of massively parallel architectures. In this study the massively parallel target device is the BSP400 (brain style processor with 400 nodes). The updating of the nodes in the BSP400 is synchronous and the nodes can only process local data (i.e., activations). The synchronous models studied, introduced by Takefuji, make use of both local and global operators. The functionality of these operators with regard to the quality of the solutions is examined through software simulations. Fully digital neurocomputers such as the BSP400 offer sufficient flexibility for programming local operations on node level. The possibilities of translating the function of global operators into local operations are also studied. The aim of this study is to combine massively parallel hardware with synchronous neural network models for optimization problems in order to achieve both high speed and high quality of the solutions.

In numerous industrial applications there is the need to realistically model granular material. For instance, simulating the interaction of vehicles and tools with soil is of great importance for the design of earth moving machinery. The Discrete Element Method (DEM) has been successfully applied to this task [1, 2]. Large scale problems require a lot of computational resources. Hence, for the application in the industrial engineering process, the computational effort is an issue. In DEM parallelization is straight forward, since each contact between adjacent particles is resolved locally without regard of the other contacts. However, modelling a contact as a stiff spring imposes strong limitations on the time step size to maintain a stable simulation. The Non-Smooth Contact Dynamics Method (NSCD), on the other hand, models contacts globally as a set of inequality constraints on a system of perfectly rigid bodies [3]. At the end of every time step, all inequality constraints must be satisfied simultaneously, which can be achieved by solving a complementarity problem. This leads to a numerically stable method that is robust with respect to much larger time steps in comparison to DEM. Since a global problem must be solved, parallelization now strongly depends on the numerical solver that is used for the complementarity problem. We present our first massively parallel implementation of NSCD based on the projected Gaua-Jacobi (PGJ) iterative scheme presented in [4]. Focusing on one-sided asynchronous communication patterns with double buffering for data exchange, global synchronizations can be avoided. Only weak synchronization due to data dependencies of neighboring domains remains. The implementation is based on the Global address space programming Interface (GPI), supplemented by the Multi Core Threading Package (MCTP) [5] on the processor level. This allows to efficiently overlap calculation and communication between processors.

Attribute-based communication provides a novel mechanism to dynamically select groups of communicating entities by relying on predicates over their exposed attributes. In this paper, we embed the basic primitives for attribute-based communication into the functional concurrent language Erlang to obtain what we call AErlang, for attribute Erlang. To evaluate our prototype in terms of performance overhead and scalability we consider solutions of the Stable Marriage Problem based on predicates over attributes and on the classical preference lists, and use them to compare the runtime performance of AErlang with those of Erlang and X10. The outcome of the comparison shows that the overhead introduced by the new communication primitives is acceptable, and our prototype can compete performance-wise with an ad-hoc parallel solution in X10.

From this paper an understanding of how applications can take advantage of modern parallel workable architectures to reduce the computational time using the wide array of models existing up to date is obtained. The performance exhibited by a single device is analyzed against parallel working architectures based on modular division of work. A private cloud has been used to get the results. A minimum of two computers are required for cluster formation. The execution speed is analyzed between parallel run devices against a single device run algorithm. One of the major point in parallel programming is the reconfiguration of the existing applications to work on parallel systems bringing out faster work results and increased efficiency. MPICH2 (message passing interface software) is used which is a standardized and portable message passing system. The MPI language helps to work on a wide variety of parallel computing architectures. The standard defines the syntax and semantics of a core of library routines useful to a wide range of users writing portable message passing programs in C, C++, and Fortran. For doing analysis Score-P has been used which gives the necessary information on the trace buffer, number of visits to each function, time taken by each function, visit/time (um) and so on of the parallel program run. A graphical analysis is done for the work performed in physical cluster, cloud cluster and HPC cluster. © 2018 IEEE.
