Community Question Answering (cQA) provides new interesting research directions to the traditional Question Answering (QA) field, e.g., the exploitation of the interaction between users and the structure of related posts. In this context, we organized SemEval-2015 Task 3 on Answer Selection in cQA, which included two subtasks: (a) classifying answers as good, bad, or potentially relevant with respect to the question, and (b) answering a YES/NO question with yes, no, or unsure, based on the list of all answers. We set subtask A for Arabic and English on two relatively different cQA domains, i.e., the Qatar Living website for English, and a Quran-related website for Arabic. We used crowdsourcing on Amazon Mechanical Turk to label a large English training dataset, which we released to the research community. Thirteen teams participated in the challenge with a total of 61 submissions: 24 primary and 37 contrastive. The best systems achieved an official score (macro-averaged F1) of 57.19 and 63.7 for the English subtasks A and B, and 78.55 for the Arabic subtask A. © 2015 Association for Computational Linguistics

Hello and welcome. These are the proceedings of the 9th International workshop on Security Protocols, the ?rst to be held in the new millennium. This year our theme was “mobile computing versus immobile security”. As usual, the insights and challenges which emerged during the workshop are re?ected in the position papers, which appear here in rewritten form. Transcripts are also included of the discussions which took place in C- bridge as the initial versions were presented. These transcripts are intended to provide a perspective on lines of argument which are worth pursuing further. Our desire is that you will join with us in this activity, and that as a result you will, like many of our participants, feel moved to propound something quite di?erent from what you originally planned. Our thanks as always to Prof. Roger Needham, FRS and to Microsoft - search Ltd. (Cambridge) for the use of the meeting room and co?ee machine. Thanks also to Lori Klimaszewska of the University of Cambridge computing Service for transcribing the audio tapes (and for revealing in “Audrey James” a previously unsuspected double life of a well-known double agent), and to Dr. Mary Buchanan for her assistance in editing the transcripts into a Thucydidean mould. Actually, we are often asked how we go about producing the transcripts, especially upon those occasions when, for various reasons, no audio recording was made. Service composition is among the most important challenges that cloud providers have ever faced. Optimization of QoS attributes when composing simple atomic services to obtain a complex service can be considered to be an NP-hard problem, which could be solved properly by using Hybrid optimization algorithms. In this research, the hybridization of an improved Gravitational Attraction search (as a local search algorithm) with an Imperialist Competitive Algorithm has led us to introduce and apply a new memetic algorithm for gaining optimal or near optimal response time and execution fees simultaneously, for cloud computing service composition. Using a roulette wheel selection algorithm to make well-advised and non-blind decisions to choose the number of countries in each empire that should be selected to apply a local search to has assisted the hybrid algorithm at achieving better solutions. Introducing a new equation to calculate the QoS eligibility of the solutions that were generated based on the normalization of the response time and execution fee has also led us to compute the results fairly and in a scientifically based manner.

A key challenge to the successful application of the data modeling, storage and retrieval is the processing of relevant media to determine the events that are represented by them. Towards this goal, we are developing a heterogeneous media events processing system that combines human expertise with algorithmic processing capabilities. In doing so, we seek to leverage the fact that computers are good at fast low level processing and humans are good at high level analysis and understanding. Our approach to bridging the "signal-to-symbol" barrier is based on a 3-layered event-processing architecture composed of a lower data event layer, higher domain event layer, and an elemental event layer in the middle, which links data and domains with symbolic indices (see [3] for details). Two important challenges in this context are providing humans with an interactive interface to do a domain level event tagging, and providing computers with methods to construct computational causality models based on tagged events. Towards this, in our demonstration, we first show how our system detects events and we provide user-tagging environment on top of these detected events. Later, we will introduce our distributed media processing networks and specific domain based event search system, which will show a way to change existing limited PowerPoint like presentation methods. Cloud computing is an emerging paradigm offering companies (virtually) unlimited data storage and computation at attractive costs. It is a cost-effective model because it does not require deployment and maintenance of any dedicated IT infrastructure. Despite its benefits, it introduces new challenges for protecting the confidentiality of the data. Sensitive data like medical records, business or governmental data cannot be stored unencrypted on the cloud. Companies need new mechanisms to control access to the outsourced data and allow users to query the encrypted data without revealing sensitive information to the cloud provider. State-of-the-art schemes do not allow complex encrypted queries over encrypted data in a multi-user setting. Instead, those are limited to keyword searches or conjunctions of keywords. This paper extends work on multi-user encrypted search schemes by supporting SQL-like encrypted queries on encrypted databases. Furthermore, we introduce access control on the data stored in the cloud, where any administrative actions (such as updating access rights or adding/deleting users) do not require re-distributing keys or re-encryption of data. Finally, we implemented our scheme and presented its performance, thus showing feasibility of our approach. © 2013 ACM.

We consider the challenges and benefits of ontologies for information management for regulatory reporting from bank holding companies (BHCs). Many BHCs, especially the largest and most complex firms, have multiple federal supervisors who oversee a diverse array of subsidiaries. This creates a federated data management problem that disperses information across many firms and regulators. We prototype an ontology for the Federal Reserve's public National Information Center (NIC) database. The NIC identifies all BHCs, their subsidiaries, and the ownership and control relationships among them. It is a basic official source on the structure of the industry. A formal ontology can capture this expert-curated knowledge in a coherent, structured format. This could assure data integrity and enable non-experts to more readily integrate and analyze data about complex organizations. We test the design and development of federated prototype ontologies in OWL/RDF to provide and integrate the NIC data with precise semantics for transparency and consistency. Our preliminary results indicate that this is feasible in practice for data search and analysis, and that the ontologies can facilitate semantic integration and improve the integrity of data and metadata. © 2018 Association for computing Machinery.

During disaster response, it is imperative to timely provide the rescuers with the adequate equipment to facilitate lifesaving operations. However, in the case of the 9-11 terrorist attacks for example, supply of high demand equipment was insufficient during the initial phase of disaster response, challenging lifesaving operations. Prioritization of limited resources is one of the greatest challenges in decision making. Meanwhile, management of geographically distributed resources has been recognized as one of the most important but difficult tasks in large scale disasters. Additionally, resource outside of the disaster affected zone converges into the disaster affected area to assist the response efforts, which is the effect of resource convergence that often made the already complex task of resource coordination even more challenging. Although there are difficulties on managing the converging volunteers and groups, such as the ability to be deployed immediately to the incidents without their appropriate skills and training, construction equipment and its professional operators are specialized entities. The effectiveness of their collaboration in the disaster response operations could be improved through regular participation in drills. As a result, the convergence of construction equipment could be efficiently utilized to facilitate Urban search and Rescue (US&R). This paper proposes a mobile application that could potentially guide and coordinate the volunteering construction equipment in collaboration with the emergency command and control structure. © 2011 ASCE.

Cross Language news story search (CLNSS) is concerned with finding documents describing the same events in documents in difierent languages. As well as supporting information retrieval (IR), CLNSS has other applications in mining parallel and comparable data across different languages. In this paper, we present an overview of the work carried out for our participation in the Cross Language Indian news Story search (CL!NSS) task at FIRE 2013. In the CL!NSS task we explored the problem of cross language news search for the English-Hindi language pair. English news stories are used as queries to seek similar news documents from Hindi news articles. Hindi being a resource-scarce language offers many challenges towards retrieving relevant news articles. We investigate and contrast translation of input queries from English to Hindi using the Google and Bing translation services. To support translation of out-of-vocabulary words we use the Google transliteration service. A key challenge of the CL!NSS task is formation of search queries from the English news articles, since they are much longer than the much shorter queries typically used in IR applications. To address this problem, we explore the use of summarization to extract a query from the input news documents, and use these summarized queries as the input to the cross language IR system. We explore the use of query expansion using pseudo relevance feedback (PRF) in the IR process, since this has been shown to be effective for cross language IR in many previous investigations. We also explore in detail the use of data fusion techniques over different sets of retrieved results obtained using diverse query formulation techniques. For the CL!NSS task our team submitted 3 main runs. The results of our best run was ranked first among official submissions based on NDCG@5 and NDCG@10 values and second for NDCG@1 values. For the 25 test queries the results of our best main run were NDCG@1 0.7400, NDCG@5 0.6809 and NDCG@10 0.7

Cloud computing enables an economic paradigm of data service outsourcing, where individuals and enterprise customers can avoid committing large capital outlays in the purchase and management of both software and hardware and the operational overhead therein. Despite the tremendous benefits, outsourcing data management to the commercial public cloud is also depriving customers' direct control over the systems that manage their data, raising security and privacy as the primary obstacles to the adoption of cloud. Although data encryption helps protecting data confidentiality, it also obsoletes the traditional data utilization service based on plain text keyword search. Thus, enabling an encrypted cloud data search service with privacy-assurance is of paramount importance. Considering the large number of data users and huge amount of outsourced data files in cloud, this problem is particularly challenging as it is extremely difficult to meet also the practical requirements of performance, system usability, and high-level user searching experiences. This paper investigates these challenges and defines the problem of fuzzy keyword search over encrypted cloud data, which should be explored for effective data utilization in Cloud computing. Fuzzy keyword search aims at accommodating various typos and representation inconsistencies in different user searching input for acceptable system usability and overall user searching experience, while protecting keyword privacy. In order to further enrich the spectrum of secure cloud data utilization services, we also study how the notion of fuzzy search naturally supports similarity search, a fundamental and powerful tool that is widely used in information retrieval. We describe the challenges that are not yet met by existing searchable encryption techniques and discuss the research directions and possible technical approaches for these new search functionalities to become a reality.
