In this paper, an H-infinity filtering problem is considered for a class of networked control systems (NCSs) with randomly occurring multiple packet dropouts. A modified mathematical model is proposed which is able to describe the randomly occurring consecutive packet losses with known maximum number of the dropouts. Moreover, with the proposed model, the considered packet loss probabilities can be either the same or different. According to the mathematical model, an H-infinity filter is designed for the considered NCSs with known maximum number of consecutive packet dropouts. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed H-infinity filtering method.

Understanding the interaction between life history, demography and population genetics in threatened species is critical for the conservations of viable populations. In the context of habitat loss and fragmentation, identifying the factors that underpin the structuring of genetic variation within populations can allow conservationists to evaluate habitat quality and connectivity and help to design dispersal corridors effectively. In this study, we carried out a detailed, fine-scale landscape genetic investigation of a giant panda population from the Qinling Mountains for the first time. With a large microsatellite data set and complementary analysis methods, we examined the role of isolation-by-barriers (IBB), isolation-by-distance (IBD) and isolation-by-resistance (IBR) in shaping the pattern of genetic variation in this giant panda population. We found that the Qinling population comprises one continuous genetic cluster, and among the landscape hypotheses tested, gene flow was found to be correlated with resistance gradients for two topographic factors, slope aspect and topographic complexity, rather than geographical distance or barriers. Gene flow was inferred to be facilitated by easterly slope aspect and to be constrained by topographically complex landscapes. These factors are related to benign microclimatic conditions for both the pandas and the food resources they rely on and more accessible topographic conditions for movement, respectively. We identified optimal corridors based on these results, aiming to promote gene flow between human-induced habitat fragments. These findings provide insight into the permeability and affinities of giant panda habitats and offer important reference for the conservation of the giant panda and its habitat.

In this paper, a set-membership filtering method is proposed in order to effectively track an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) in a dual antenna GPS positioning system. According to the relationship between position, velocity and the heading direction, a mathematical model is established to describe the considered USV system. The disturbances of wind, wave and current are modeled as unknown-but-bounded noises and a set-membership filtering scheme is designed which enables the states of the USV to reside in the ellipsoidal estimation sets at each time instant. A simulation experiment is conducted, which assumes that the USV is still in the water with the disturbances of wind, wave and current. Example results are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The Oriental Fire-bellied Newt (Cynops orientalis David) has been listed as Near Threatened species (NT) recently due to habitat destruction and degradation and illegal trade in the domestic and international pet markets. We sequenced and characterized the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of C. orientalis in this paper. The complete mitogenome sequence of C. orientalis is 16,294 bp in length, containing 37 genes (13 protein coding genes, two ribosomal RNA, 22 transfer RNA genes and one control region). The new sequenced complete mitogenome of C. orientalis will provide useful information for application in conservation genetics and evolution for this near threatened species.

A facile, green strategy is explored to obtain mesoporous titanium glycolate (Ti(OCH2CH2O)(2)) via a one-pot hydrothermal reaction. The mesoporous Ti(OCH2CH2O)(2) nanomaterials take on a three-dimensional V-type stripe structure with a specific surface area of 246.5 m(2) g(-1) and present an excellent adsorption capacity of toxic heavy metal ions in aqueous solution, 225.73mg g(-1) for Pb(II), 131.93 mg g(-1) for As(V) and 156.01 mg g-1 for As(III) with fast adsorption rates. The removal mechanism was found to derive from the electrostatic interaction or coordination interaction between Ti(OCH2CH2O)(2) and heavy metal ions in aqueous solution since the mesoporous materials display a pH-dependent effect for arsenic removal.
