In this paper, a fault detection problem is considered for a class of systems with unknown-but-bounded noises by a set-membership filtering approach. The measurement and the process noises are both considered as unknownbut- bounded. Two ellipsoidal sets, which are one-step-ahead prediction ellipsoid and estimation ellipsoid, are proposed for the state estimation. The fault signal is detected by intersecting the two ellipsoids to check whether the intersection set is empty or not. Recursive algorithms for calculating the two ellipsoids and for detecting whether the fault occurs in the system are developed. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The carnivoran giant panda has a specialized bamboo diet, to which its alimentary tract is poorly adapted. Measurements of daily energy expenditure across five captive and three wild pandas averaged 5.2 megajoules (MJ)/day, only 37.7% of the predicted value (13.8 MJ/day). For the wild pandas, themean was 6.2 MJ/day, or 45% of themammalian expectation. Pandas achieve this exceptionally low expenditure in part by reduced sizes of several vital organs and low physical activity. In addition, circulating levels of thyroid hormones thyroxine (T-4) and triiodothyronine (T-3) averaged 46.9 and 64%, respectively, of the levels expected for a eutherianmammal of comparable size. A giant panda-uniquemutation in the DUOX2 gene, critical for thyroid hormone synthesis, might explain these low thyroid hormone levels. A combination of morphological, behavioral, physiological, and genetic adaptations, leading to low energy expenditure, likely enables giant pandas to survive on a bamboo diet.

This paper is concerned with the H-infinity control problem for a class of linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems with randomly multi-step sensor delays. A mathematical model which describes the randomly multi-step sensor delayed measurements for LPV systems is established. An improved Lyapunov functional is proposed to determine the asymptotically mean-square stability of the closed-loop system which depends on the varying parameters. The obtained full-order parameter-dependent dynamic feedback controller guarantees the considered system to be asymptotically mean-square stable and to satisfy the modified H-infinity performance for all possible delayed measurements. An extended cone complementarity linearization method (CCLM) is used to solve the constrained linear matrix inequality (CLMI). Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Objective. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of radix astragali and its prescriptions for diabetic retinopathy. Methods. A computer-based online and manual search was conducted for randomized controlled trials addressing radix astragali and its prescriptions for diabetic retinopathy. Results. 16 RCTs involving 977 subjects and 1586 eyes were identified. Meta-analysis indicated that the effect of radix astragali and its prescriptions in improving visual acuity and fundus manifestations, lowering FBG, TG, plasma viscosity, and RAI, was superior to that of control group (WMD or OR 0.20, 0.27, -0.26, -0.36, -0.93, -1.27;95% CI [0.09, 0.30], [0.17, 0.40], [-0.51, 0.00], [-0.60, -0.12], [-1.67, -0.20], [-2.35, -0.19];P < 0.05, resp.). In contrary, the efficacy of radix astragali and its prescriptions was not superior to those of control group in descending HbA1C and TC with WMD 0.45, -0.96 and 95% CI [-1.00, 1.90], [-2.19, 0.27], P > 0.05, respectively. GRADE software suggested that the studies were of low methodological quality. Conclusion. Radix astragali and its prescriptions were superior to other treatments for diabetic retinopathy in terms of improving visual acuity and fundus manifestations, reducing FBG, TG, RAI, and plasma viscosity. The evaluated studies were of low methodological quality, indicating that the previous findings should be read with care.
