Overuse wrist injuries in adolescent platform and springboard divers

To investigate overuse wrist injuries in adolescent divers using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The bilateral wrists (76 wrists) of 38 professional divers were examined by MRI;42 wrists with pain were placed in the symptomatic group, and 34 wrists without pain were placed in the asymptomatic group. Two experienced radiologists assessed the wrist injuries. Chi-square test was used to compare the difference in injuries between the two groups. Subchondral osteosclerosis was observed in 47.62% of symptomatic wrists and 52.94% of asymptomatic wrists. Distal radial epiphyseal plate injury was detected in 42.86% of symptomatic wrists and 11.76% of asymptomatic wrists. Triangular fibrocartilage complex injury was observed in 19.04% of symptomatic wrists and 8.82% of asymptomatic wrists. Bursae around the wrist were observed in 21.42% of symptomatic wrists and 17.64% of asymptomatic wrists. The incidence of distal radial epiphyseal plate injury was higher in the symptomatic group than in the asymptomatic group (P = 0.007), however, other injuries were not statistically different between the two groups (P > 0.05). This study demonstrated that adolescent divers had various wrist injuries, and distal radial epiphyseal plate injury was more common in the symptomatic wrist;these injuries show no specific clinical symptoms and are easily overlooked.

Boosting catalytic performance of N doped porous carbon derived from coal tar pitch: The role of N species and the contribution of 1O2

In this study, nitrogen-doped carbon material (N-PC-d) derived from coal tar pitch using dicyandiamide as N source was successfully synthesized, exhibiting outstanding catalytic performance in the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of Orange G (OG). By optimizing key parameters such as PMS dosage, NPC dosage, nitrogen source, pH, anions, and PS source, the optimal N-PC-d/PMS system achieved a degradation rate 1.45 times higher than that of the PC/PMS system within a broad pH range (2.0-10.0). Through electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and quenching experiments, it was found that singlet oxygen (1O2) was the predominant species accountable for OG degradation, while reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide (O2 & sdot;-), hydroxyl radicals (& sdot;OH), and sulfate radicals (SO4 & sdot;-), played auxiliary roles. Moreover, the structure-activity relationship analysis revealed that functional groups such as C--C, C--O, and pyridine N were mainly involved in PMS activation. The degradation mechanism of OG was further elucidated by high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). This research presented a cost-efficient N-doped porous carbon material for environmental remediation and provides more profound insights into the mechanisms of PMS activation by N doped carbon-based materials.

Dropout Graph Product for Improved Relationship Discovery Across Multiple Heterogeneous Graphs

Relationship discovery across multiple heterogeneous graphs has recently attracted considerable interest. A major challenge is how to fuse and utilize the structure and properties of multiple heterogeneous graphs complementarily to improve relationship discovery between graph pairs where there are only a few observed relationships. In this paper, we seek to solve the problem through label propagation on dropout graph product. We first map multiple heterogeneous graphs onto a single homogeneous graph through graph product. The internal structure and properties of each individual graphs, as well as the observed inter-graph relationships across multiple graphs are fused losslessly via assigning edge weights and encoding node vectors of the graph product. As a result, the complex problem of relationship discovery across multiple heterogeneous graphs is transformed into a simple problem of node classification on homogeneous graph product. However, the size of graph product increases quickly with the size and the number of factor graphs, which leads to low accuracy and high computational cost. Dropout is therefore introduced to address this problem, which is applied to label propagation on graph product. Finally, we combine the results of a set of label propagations on different dropout graph products using a product of experts model. The proposed approach is characterized by flexibility in defining graph product, good generalization ability, high accuracy, and efficient computation. The experiments on real-world datasets show that the proposed approach significantly improves relationship discovery across multiple heterogeneous graphs, obtaining better results on the benchmark datasets than the baseline approaches.

Adsorption of Orange G on Activated Porous Carbon Derived from Coal Tar Pitch: Experimental and DFT Study

A coal tar pitch-based porous carbon adsorbent (CPA) was synthesized through a straightforward method involving the heating of a mixture of KOH and coal tar pitch (CTP). This CPA exhibited a high surface area of 1811.2 m2 g-1 and a large pore volume of 0.94 cm3 g-1 when prepared with a CTP to KOH mass ratio of 1:4 at 800 degrees C. Parameters such as the heating temperature and activator dose were optimized to enhance the adsorption efficiency. The prepared CPA was extensively characterized by SEM, XRD, FTIR, and BET measurements. Notably, CPA presented a distinct adsorption performance for Orange G (OG), achieving a maximum adsorption capability of 449.7 mg g-1. Kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order model, while the adsorption isotherm data demonstrated that both chemical and physical interactions favored OG adsorption. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the adsorption of OG on CPA was spontaneous and exothermic and increased the entropy. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations provided insights into the adsorption mechanism, highlighting electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonds, and pi-pi interactions as the dominant processes governing OG adsorption onto the adsorbent.

Multisite synergistic interaction induced selective adsorption of CB5-Ti3C2T2 complex for strontium ion: A combined theoretical and experimental study

In this work, we use a well-defined water-soluble macrocyclic molecule cucurbit[5]uril (CB5) to modify 2D Ti3C2T2 MXene and assemble a novel high-performance adsorbent CB5-Ti3C2T2 for Sr ion by density functional theory and experimental methods. The structural stabilities of two distinct types of CB5-Ti3C2T2 (T = F, O and OH) complexes, i.e., CB5-Ti3C2T2(V) and CB5-Ti3C2T2(P) configurations are proved by binding energy and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations. Calculations of adsorption properties reveal that all the considered CB5-Ti3C2T2 complexes can act as efficient adsorbents for Sr ion, among which CB5-Ti3C2O2 complex possesses the best performance. The high affinity (the calculated adsorption energies < -7.6 eV) and selectivity of CB5-Ti3C2T2 complex for Sr ion are attributed to the synergistic effect between CB5 molecule and Ti3C2T2 MXene in the adsorption process, which arises from the multisite interactions of portal carbonyl groups of CB5 and surface functional groups of Ti3C2T2 towards Sr. Finally, CB5-Ti3C2T2 complex was successfully synthesized, and experimental results confirm its synergistic effect, good selectivity and high removal efficiency for Sr ions. In the treatment of strontium-containing wastewater with low concentrations, the distribution coefficient and decontamination factor of CB5-Ti3C2T2 for Sr were determined to be as high as 2.88 x 10(5) mL/g and 144.9, respectively, and the separation factor (SFSr/Ca) achieved a notable value of 67. 5. This work is expected to present a new strategy for the construction of high-performance MXene-based adsorbent for radionuclide elimination.

Introduction: Our study aimed to assess parents' perceptions of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and their attitudes towards the RSV vaccine in China. Method: The cross-section study was performed between August 21 and November 15, 2023, in Jiangsu province, eastern China. We collected socio-demographics, awareness, knowledge, perceptions of susceptibility and severity of RSV, and attitudes towards RSV vaccine using online survey questionnaire from parents of child aged <14 years old. The chi-square test and logistic regression model to explore the associated factors. Results: A total of 2135 participants were included. About 26.0 % indicated that they had never heard of RSV (556/2135) and were unaware that infants and young children are at a high risk of contracting RSV (557/2135). The proportion of parents with a child under 1 year of age who were unaware of RSV was notably higher than that of parents with children in other age groups. 42.9 % of parents (916/2135) showed low level of perceived susceptibility of contacting RSV infection for their child. 70.6 % of parents (1508/2135) expressed their willingness to vaccinate their child against RSV. The most common reason for refusing the RSV vaccine was "Concern about vaccine's safety or side effects." 60.8 % of participants (1299/2135) considered a price of the RSV vaccine below 200 CNY (28 USD) as acceptable. Conclusion: The parents, particularly those with younger children, exhibited limited awareness and knowledge regarding RSV infection. Our study also showed the potential role of vaccine price as a barrier to the future use of RSV vaccine in China.

Our study aims to assess the public's perceptions of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and attitudes toward the RSV vaccine and to identify associated factors in China. A nationwide cross-sectional survey conducted using an online platform between August 16 and September 14, 2023. Questions related to socio-demographics, awareness, knowledge, perceptions of susceptibility and severity of RSV, and attitudes toward the RSV vaccine were included in the questionnaire. We used the chi-square test and logistic regression model to explore the associated factors. Overall, 2133 individuals were included in this study. Nearly a quarter of participants (24.3%) indicated that they had never heard of RSV. The proportion of individuals aged over 50 years reporting never having heard of RSV (36.5%) and having a low knowledge level of RSV (55.3%) was significantly higher that of other younger age groups. More than half of individuals (55.7%) exhibited low level of perceptions of susceptibility concerning RSV infection. A total of 68.4% of the participants expressed willingness to receive the RSV vaccine. Younger age was positively associated with a higher willingness to be vaccinated. The most frequent reason for declining the vaccine was "Concern about vaccine's safety or side effects." About 60% of individuals considered a price of RSV vaccine below 200 CNY (28 USD) as acceptable. The awareness and perceived susceptibility to RSV infection were limited to the Chinese public. It is necessary to take measures to address the low awareness and knowledge of RSV and acceptability of the RSV vaccine among older adults.

The catalytic thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate on CuMxOy (M = Fe, Ni, Co and Zn) catalysts and their applications in solid propellant

The excellent thermal decomposition efficiency of ammonium perchlorate (AP) is of great importance for obtaining propellant with fast specific impulse. In this study, four CuMxOy catalysts, including M = Fe, Ni, Co, and Zn, were synthesized and then used for catalyzing AP decomposition and hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB)-based solid propellant combustion. The existed synergistic effect in CuMxOy catalysts improved the catalytic activity and the most active CuZnO catalyst decreased the AP high-temperature decomposition temperature (HTD) from 412.5 to 289.4 ?. Kinetic studies indicated that CuMxOy catalysts inhibited the conversion of N2O to a fully oxidized product and decreased the activation energy (E-a) in HTD to concentrate AP decomposition to significantly decrease the heat loss, thereby increasing their decomposition efficiency. When applying the CuMxOy catalysts in the HTPB (hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene)-based solid propellant, a faster burning rate and stronger optical emission spectrum were obtained. The CuMxOy catalyst is a potential additive for the preparation of outstanding combustion solid propellants.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the relationship between estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in people living with HIV (PLWH), proposing a novel and convenient predictor for early detection of MetS in PLWH. Patients and Methods: A total of 485 PLWH were enrolled. These participants were categorized into two groups based on the estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) level. Demographic and clinical data were collected to investigate the correlation between ePWV and MetS. Results: The cohort of 485 PLWH was categorized into high-ePWV and low-ePWV groups based on ePWV cutoff value of 10 m/s. We observed significant differences in components of MetS including triglycerides (TG, P < 0.05), HDL cholesterol (HDL-C, P < 0.01), systolic blood pressure (SBP, P < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (DBP, P < 0.05), and fasting plasma glucose (FPG, P < 0.001) between the two groups. Furthermore, we employed receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves to demonstrate the effectiveness of ePWV as a predictive indicator for MetS in PLWH (AUC = 0.739, P < 0.001). According to the ROC curve, the optimal cut-off value of ePWV was 7.4 m/s, and its sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing MetS in PLWH were 79.03% and 64.07%, respectively. Although the 7.4 m/s cutoff increased the false positive rate compared to the traditional cutoff, it significantly reduced the rate of missed diagnoses, effectively identifying 79.03% of PLWH with MetS. Conclusion: ePWV is a non-invasive and convenient novel biomarker with predictive capabilities for MetS in PLWH.

BackgroundModifiable factors affect cancer's survival but literature did not differentiate prior to versus after cancer diagnosis. It is essential to provide references for the intervention prioritized at different *** this prospective cohort study, we analyzed national data from the UK Biobank, including 121,399 participants, to assess the association of modifiable factors with cancer-specific survival (CSS) in two independent cohorts: a pre-cancer cohort (n = 78,027) and a post-cancer cohort (n = 43,372). Additionally, a weighted standardized score was derived to evaluate the joint effects across different domains. Interactions between the six domains and age at diagnosis, sex, and cancer site were evaluated using likelihood ratio tests. Subgroup analyses were then performed for factors showing significant effect modification. Population-attributable fractions (PAF) of different domains on 5-year cancer-specific death were *** study comprehensively presented the differential patterns of modifiable factors' impact on CSS among pre-cancer and post-cancer cohorts, sexes and different cancer sites. In the pre-cancer cohort, CSS were predominantly attributable to smoking/alcohol consumption (PAF 92%) and daily activity (PAF 106%). Men exhibited a higher risk than women for dietary habits (HR:125 versus 118), daily activity (HR:150 versus 129) and living environment (HR:113 versus 103). The impact of modifiable factors, including daily activity, smoking/alcohol consumption, and physical measures, on CSS varied across different cancer sites. In the post-cancer cohort, 186% of 5-year cancer-specific deaths were attributable to unfavourable mental health.
