Delays in routine childhood vaccinations and their relationship with parental vaccine hesitancy: a cross-sectional study in Wuxi, China

Objectives This study aimed to examine childhood vaccination delay, explore the association between vaccination delay and parental vaccine hesitancy, and assess childhood vaccination delays during the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic in China. Methods This cross-sectional survey was conducted in Wuxi City. Participants were recruited from local vaccination clinics. Questionnaires were used to collect information about socio-demographics, vaccine hesitancy, and immunization clinic evaluations. Vaccination records were obtained from the Jiangsu Information Management System of Vaccination Cases. Results Overall, 2728 participants were included. The coverage for seven category A vaccines (Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI)) was more than 95% at 24 months. The proportion of children vaccinated in a timely manner was the highest for the first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine (91.6%) and the lowest for the Bacillus-Calmette-Guerin vaccine (44.6%). More than 50% of the planned vaccinations were delayed in February and March 2020. The Vaccine Hesitancy Scale scores were not associated with vaccination delay (P = 0.842). Children's vaccination delays were negatively associated with parents who reported convenient access to clinics and satisfaction with immunization services (P = 0.020, P = 0.045). Conclusions EPI is highly successful in China. Despite vaccination delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, coverage was recovered after lockdown restrictions were eased.

Rapid analysis of soluble solid content in navel orange based on visible-near infrared spectroscopy combined with a swarm intelligence optimization method

Navel orange is a very popular fruit which is rich in nutrition necessary to human health. Nowadays, rapid, nondestructive and pollution-free analysis of internal organic compounds of fruit is an important and promising technology. The purpose of this paper is to present a swarm intelligence optimization method to extract the feature information of visible-near infrared (Vis-NIR) spectra of navel orange for rapid and nondestructive analysis of soluble solid content (SSC) in navel orange. This method was developed on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and named as piecewise particle swarm optimization (PPSO). The experimental results showed that the PPSO algorithm proposed in this paper overcame the disadvantage of PSO's premature convergence. The PLS model based on variables selected by PPSO for nondestructively detecting SSC of navel orange yield promising results, as the standard deviation of prediction (SEP) was 0.427 degrees Brix while the standard error of laboratory (SEL) was 0.22 degrees Brix. It indicated that the application of near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technology combined with PPSO for rapid analysis of soluble solid content in navel orange was feasible. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. Capsule structured Al/FeF3/AP energetic microspheres with enhanced combustion performance and energy release efficiency by a microexplosion reaction

The agglomeration and sintering of aluminum (Al) metal fuels lead to inadequate combustion and low energy release efficiency in the solid propellant systems. Herein, we assemble Al particles with gas generator of ferric trifluoride (FeF3) into capsule structured microspheres to detonate a microexplosion reaction by the evaporation -induced self-assembly technique, with encapsulating by ammonium perchlorate (AP) oxidant. The generated ternary Al/FeF3/AP microspheres achieved superior heat of combustion (12719.75 J g-1) and combustion temperature (1639.6 degrees C) owing to the full contact between components, reduced reaction transport distance, and the fierce shattering microexplosion combustion. Combustion mechanism analysis indicated that Al2O3 layer that hindered the oxidation reaction of Al was etched by the hydrogen fluoride (HF) from FeF3 decomposition, which caused the rapid splashing of nano Al clusters to detonate shattering microexplosion combustion. Furthermore, the ternary Al/FeF3/AP microspheres dramatically improve the combustion performance of hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB)-based propellants and achieve a burning rate of 2.975 mm s-1, higher than most of the published HTPB/AP/Al propellants to date. The construction of Al/FeF3/AP microspheres exhibits a huge po-tential for the improvement of the propulsion power of rockets and weapons.

Reference gene selection for qRT-PCR normalization of gene expression analysis in Melaleuca bracteata F. Muell. under abiotic stresses and hormonal stimuli

Melaleuca bracteata F. Muell. is among the most significant aromatic plants belonging to the Myrtaceae family, and its essential oil has various biological activities. However, the key enzymes involved in essential oil biosynthesis and their expression patterns are not clearly understood. Appropriate reference genes are required for quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), sensitive for gene expression studies, to obtain reliable results. In this study, 14 candidate genes, namely ACT, 18S, & alpha;-TUB, fl-TUB, GAPDH, EF1-& alpha;, UBQ, UBC, CYP, EIF-4A, DNAJ, PP2A, TIP41, and UBX, were selected from the M. bracteata transcriptome datasets for analysis under abiotic stresses and hormonal stimuli. The stability of these genes was analyzed using three widely used software programs (geNorm, NormFinder, and BestKeeper). Their results were integrated into a compre-hensive ranking by geometric mean. According to the study results, TIP41 and CYP were the most stable genes for abiotic stresses, while TIP41 and UBQ were the most stable genes for hormonal stimulation. Further, TIP41 and CYP were the most stable reference genes across all tested samples, whereas ACT was the least stable. Based on the expression of two target genes (COMT1 and COMT2, which are involved in methyleugenol biosynthesis), the suitability of the selected reference genes for qRT-PCR normalization was further verified. The study results could offer a foundation for gene expression analysis and functional studies in M. bracteata and other Melaleuca species.

Provided are a cushioning member for a furniture sliding rail and a furniture sliding rail (100) using the same. The cushioning member comprises a cushioning base (101), a release member (3), a cushioning base sliding block (2), a seat (1), a reset spring (11, 12), a damping cushioning member (13), and a self-locking connection fastener (4). The self-locking connection fastener (4) comprises a first rotary joint means (41) and a lower hook arm (46) which are arranged at the front and back, respectively. A second rotary joint means (24) is disposed at a head end portion of the sliding block (2). A trap (17) is arranged at a tail end portion of the seat (1). When the release member (3) drives the self-locking connection fastener (4) to move backwards, the lower hook arm (46) retreats to a position above the trap (17) and rotates downwardly to enter the trap (17), and a first slide-out joint means (45) descends accordingly. The descended first slide-out joint means (45) can avoid a second slide-out joint means (33) that is moving backwards, such that the second slide-out joint means (33) passes over the first slide-out joint means (45) and continues to move backwards, thereby separating the release member (3) from the self-locking connection fastener (4). The invention has the above advantages, and is applicable to a cushioning member for a furniture sliding rail and a furniture sliding rail (100) using the same.

为了进一步考虑灵活性需求对综合能源系统(IES)资源配置的影响,在IES规划过程中,提出一种计及灵活性需求及新能源不确定性的园区IES协同优化配置方法。基于价格弹性理论建立综合需求响应(IDR)柔性负荷模型,采用Z-number方法描述IDR认知过程与结果的不确定性;考虑新能源的随机性和相关性,利用非参数估计法与Frank-Copula函数改进风光出力联合概率模型,得到典型日风光出力曲线;以IES运营商年化总成本最低为目标,构建上层优化设备型号与台数、下层优化机组运行的IES双层协同配置模型。算例结果表明相较于未考虑IDR及新能源不确定性的场景,所提配置模型减少了成本,进一步提高了经济性,同时配置方案充分考虑源荷双侧不确定性给系统带来的运行风险问题,从而实现了IES规划经济性与运行安全性的平衡。

Methyleugenol is widely found in essential oils from aromatic plants, attracting insects for pollination and possessing antimicrobial and antioxidant features. Methyleugenol content in the essential oil from Melaleuca bracteata leaves is 90.46 %, making it an excellent material for assessing methyleugenol's biosynthetic pathway. Eugenol synthase (EGS) and eugenol-o-methyltransferase (EOMT) represent key genes in methyleugenol's biosynthetic pathway but their respective functions are unclear. In this study, overexpression and virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) techniques were applied to investigate the major regulatory gene among MbEGS1, MbEGS2, MbEGS3, and MbEGS4 in the biosynthesis pathway of methyleugenol. We also aimed to examine the coordination mechanism between EGS and EOMT in methyleugenol production by M. bracteata. The data revealed MbEGS4 transcription and methyleugenol content were most significantly increased after overexpression of the MbEGS1-4 gene in M. bracteata and Fragaria vesca. Conversely, MbEGS4 transcription and methyleugenol content were most significantly reduced after MbEGS1-4 gene silencing by VIGS in M. bracteata. These results underscore a major regulatory role for the MbEGS4 gene in the biosynthetic pathway of methyleugenol in M. bracteata. Remarkably, upon overexpression and silencing of MbEOMTs, the transcription levels of MbEGSs were notably upregulated, with MbEGS4 showing the highest increase. Collectively, these findings suggested the presence of a specific transcription factor bound to the promoters of MbEGS and MbEOMT, inducing their expression for the synergistic and efficient production of methyleugenol in M. bracteata.

Polyphenols-inspired interface modification and reduced agglomeration of solid propellants via a functionalized fluorine-containing organic substance coating layer

Interface modification of aluminum particles plays a crucial part in reducing the agglomeration during the combustion of solid propellants. In this study, the aluminum (Al) particles are pretreated with gallic acid (GA) to get Al@GA with an adhesion-favorable surface, which facilitates the further coating procedure. One new fluorine-containing organic substance is prepared, namely p-HFBA. The p-HFBA further coats the Al@GA to produce Al@GA/p-HFBA. The interface between Al@GA and the coating layer p-HFBA forms Al-F bonds and induces a pre-ignition reaction with an aluminum oxide shell. Hence, the agglomerate size of propellants containing Al@GA/p-HFBA significantly decreases from 176.30 mu m to 84.72 mu m. The agglomerates volume is reduced by approximately 97 %. Additionally, more gaseous products investigated by TG-MS provide the Al particles with greater impetus (aerodynamic forces, Fae), enabling them to leave the burning surface and reduce the residence time. The rise in Fae and drop in adhesion force (Fad) effectively reduce the agglomeration intensity according to the skeleton layer model. This work proves that interface modification can effectively enhance the combustion performance of aluminized solid propellants.

Evidence for the validity and reliability of the World Health Organization's 10-item vaccine hesitancy scale (VHS) in different settings is not sufficient, especially for criteria validity. This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the VHS using child vaccination data in China. A cross-sectional survey was performed with parents of 19-48-month-old children at six vaccination clinics in Wuxi City between September and October 2020. The VHS was revised to category A (expanded program on immunization, EPI) VHS and category B (Non-EPI) VHS. Factor analysis was used to confirm the latent domain and to assess the model structure. The average variance extracted (AVE) was calculated to assess convergent validity, and Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability (CR) were used to determine internal consistency. The association between VHS scores and children's vaccination status was examined to assess criteria validity using logistic regression. The survey response rate was 75.3% (n = 802). Two factors were identified, explaining 64.60% and 63.34% of the common variance in categories A and B VHS, respectively. The Cronbach's alpha of > 0.7 and CR of >0.7 in the scale indicated the VHS has acceptable internal consistency. The AVE values indicated that convergent validity was not ideal for the VHS. There were no statistically significant associations between VHS scores and vaccination status, indicating that the criterion validity was not ideal. The VHS needs improvement before becoming a standard survey tool.
