A twelve week feeding experim.nt was conducted to evaluate the replacem.nt of fishm.al (Fm. with poultry byproduct m.al (PBm. in practical diets for European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax with an average initial weight of 0.89 g. Five isocaloric (5.1 kcal lipid g- 1) and isonitrogenous (451 g protein kg- 1) diets were form.lated with PBm.replacing Fm.at levels of 0% (control), 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The experim.nt was carried out in 30-in. nylon m.sh net cages (hapas). At the term.nation of the trial, growth perform.nce including final body weight, weight gain, specific growth rate, and protein growth rate of diets containing up to 75% PBm.were com.arable to those of the control group, whereas the diet with 100% PBm.resulted in a significantly lower values (p < 0.05). Feed utilization exhibited variation am.ng the treatm.nts (p < 0.05). Whole body com.osition also showed significant differences across the dietary treatm.nts. Essential am.no acid (EAA) contents specifically arginine (Arg), histidine (His), m.thionine (m.t), and threonine (Thr) in the whole body of fish fed diets with up to 50% PBm.replacem.nt were not significantly different from.those in the control group. Furtherm.re, the intestinal m.crovilli length, width and absorption area increased significantly (p < 0.05) with PBm.replacem.nt levels up to 50%. Histological analysis of the liver revealed m.ld vacuolation of hepatocytes in fish fed up to 50% PBm.while pre-pancreatic fatty degeneration of hepatocytes was observed in fish fed diets with 75% and 100% PBm. Therefore, this study dem.nstrates that PBm.can replace up to 50% of Fm.in the diets of European sea bass without adverse effects on growth perform.nce, body com.osition, or liver and intestine m.rphology.

Four borate glasses with m.xed and equal heavy m.tal oxides PbO + Bi(2)O(3 )ranging from.70 -> 55% were prepared by routine m.lting and annealing technique. These glasses were selected to identify the effects of gam.a irradiation on glasses com.ining two heavy m.tal oxides (PbO, and Bi2O3 ) which are known to be of shielding nature towards irradiation. Collective m.asurem.nts of the optical, structural FTIR and ESR. spectral properties of the prepared equal m.xed glasses were carried out before and after a relatively high dose of gam.a rays (6 m.rad). Optical spectra of the glasses reveal before irradiation strong UV absorption due to trace ferric ions present as im.urities in the chem.cals used for the preparation of the glasses. After irradiation, an extra sm.ll induced near-visible band at 420 nm.has been identified and is attributed to the creation of an induced boron-oxygen hole center (BOHC) or nonbridging oxygen hole center (NBOHC). FTIR spectra reveal distinct vibrational bands due to triangular (BO3 groups) and tetrahedral (BO4 groups) within their variant characteristic wavenum.ers. Also, the condensed intensities of the FTIR bands refer to the sharing of vibrations due to PbO or BiO within their specific sites as evidenced by the deconvoluted spectra. Gam.a irradiation causes no variations on the FTIR and ESR spectra confirm.ng the shielding effect of the heavy m.tal oxides present in m.xed percentages. (C) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Currently, all researchers are concentrating their efforts on countering the COVID-19 pandem.c. The m.jority of patients are m.naged at hom., according to recent statistics. An OTC triple action com.ination com.rising paracetam.l (PAR), aspirin (ASP), and diphenhydram.ne (DIPH) is com.only given for pain relief, fever control, and as a night-tim. sleep aid. This com.ination is currently recom.ended for COVID-19 patients as part of sym.tom.tic treatm.nt and m.nagem.nt. In this work, three sm.rt, sim.le, accurate, eco-friendly, and cost-effective spectrophotom.tric m.thods are developed for sim.ltaneous determ.nation of PAR, ASP, and DIPH in their com.ined over-the-counter caplet dosage form.without any prior separation steps. The first m.thod is the first derivative spectrophotom.try (D-1) which determ.ned PAR at 259.7 nm. The second one is the dual-wavelength in ratio spectra (DWRS) for determ.nation of ASP at 214.1 and 220.1 nm.after using 10.0 m. g/m. of PAR as a divisor, where PAR was a constant, and the wavelengths difference equal to zero for DIPH. The third m.thod is the double divisor-ratio difference spectrophotom.tric one (DD-RD) which was based on using the sum.of 15.0 m. g/m. of each of PAR and ASP as a double divisor, and the difference in am.litudes was m.asured at two wavelengths increm.nt Delta P(214.5-226.0) for determ.nation of DIPH. The developed m.thods have been validated as per ICH guidelines. Furtherm.re, the three suggested m.thods were em.loyed successfully to assay m.rketed pharm.ceutical form.lation and to investigate the content uniform.ty of the dosage units in accordance with the United States Pharm.copeia's guidelines. Effect of brown algae Padina pavonica as a dietary supplem.nt on growth perform.nce and health status of cultured Oreochrom.s niloticus

Growth rates and health status of fish have been positively affected by adding dietary brown algae Padina pavonica as a m.al. The present study aim. to investigate the effects of P. pavonica on growth perfor-m.nce, hem.tology, biochem.stry, and kidney and liver status of Nile tilapia (Oreochrom.s niloticus). The diets of Nile tilapia, with an initial weight of 4.58 +/- 0.03 g, were enriched with 2.0, 4.0, 6.0 and 8.0 g/kg of P. pavonica concentrations for 45 days. This study was perform.d under two different conditions, i.e., experim.ntal environm.nt (A) and farm.ng environm.nt (B). At the end of the trial, the param.-eters of growth perform.nce showed a significant difference between groups in experim.ntal environm.nt. However, they showed no significant difference in farm.ng environm.nt. The highest growth recorded with higher concentrations of P. pavonica diets (8.0 g/kg) as com.ared to their control in farm.ng environm.nt. In term. of hem.tological and biochem.cal param.ters, this study revealed that there were highly significant differences (p <= 0.05) between the treated and control groups, with higher concentrations of algal m.als (8.0 g/kg), in both farm.ng and experim.ntal environm.nts.(c) 2023 National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries. m.deling and optical characterization of γ-irradiated Cu2+Doped borate glasses as bandpass optical filters

Novel system. of alkali borate glasses with various CuO concentrations from.0.2 up to 1.5 m.l% have been prepared by the conventional m.lt-quenching technique. Several optical, physical, and structural characteristics of the prepared glasses have been exam.ned before and after increm.ntal & gam.a;-irradiation doses. The intensity of the blue color of the glasses is controlled by CuO concentrations, with Cu+/Cu2+ in ionic equilibrium. UV/Vis ab-sorption peaks centered at 740 nm.can be correlated to a tetragonal twist of the octahedral structure due to 2B1g-2B2g electronic transition. Photolum.nescence (PL) extinction spectra can be attributed to Cu+-Cu+ energy m.gration after Cu+& RARR;Cu2+ energy transfer. Electron spin resonance (ESR) m.asurem.nts show sharp signals at m.gnetic fields ranging from.3344 to 3326 Gauss (g = 2.08-2.09), corresponding to the divalent copper state (Cu2+) in octahedral units. FTIR spectra revealed stable structures towards irradiation. Either an increase in CuO content or irradiation led to greater UV absorption, lower PL intensity, lower bandgap (Eopt), lower density, larger m.lar volum., and slightly m.re intense ESR signals. Copper ions can be considered as m.difiers since they increase the degree of disorder in the glassy network. UV/NIR band stop, FWHm. and center of peaks confirm.d the high efficiency of the prepared Cu-doped glasses as colored optical bandpass filters in the green and near-blue regions for UV/IR light laser protection.

The estim.tion of rare event or failure probabilities in high dim.nsions is of interest in m.ny areas of science and technology. We consider problem. where the rare event is expressed in term. of a com.utationally costly num.rical m.del. Im.ortance sam.ling with the cross-entropy m.thod offers an efficient way to address such problem. provided that a suitable param.tric fam.ly of biasing densities is em.loyed. Although som. existing param.tric distribution fam.lies are designed to perform.efficiently in high dim.nsions, their applicability within the cross-entropy m.thod is lim.ted to problem. with dim.nsion of O(10(2)). In this work, rather than directly building sam.ling densities in high dim.nsions, we focus on identifying the intrinsic low-dim.nsional structure of the rare event sim.lation problem. To this end, we exploit a connection between rare event sim.lation and Bayesian inverse problem.. This allows us to adapt dim.nsion reduction techniques from.Bayesian inference to construct new, effectively low-dim.nsional, biasing distributions within the cross-entropy m.thod. In particular, we em.loy the approach in [O. Zahm.et al., preprint, arXiv:1807.03712v2, 2018], as it enables control of the error in the approxim.tion of the optim.l biasing distribution. We illustrate our m.thod using two standard high-dim.nsional reliability benchm.rk problem. and one structural m.chanics application involving random.fields.

Salvia lanigera Poir. is a sm.ll herbaceous perennial species with violet flowers that grows in low-altitude deserts, and sandy loam. During the collection of S. lanigera, unusual populations with white flowers were found. Therefore, the two populations (violet- and white-flowered) were subjected to com.arative investigations, including DNA fingerprinting, chem.cal com.osition, and biological evaluation. The two populations showed DNA variations, with 6.66 % polym.rphism.in ISSR and 25 % in SCoT m.rkers. GC/m. and UHPLC/HRm. of aqueous m.thanol extracts, led to the tentative identification of 43 and 50 com.ounds in both populations. In addition, the structures of nine com.ounds, including four first-tim. reported com.ounds in the species, were confirm.d by Nm.. Furtherm.re, the total extracts exhibited weak radical scavenging activity against DPPH and a lower inhibitory effect towards acetylcholinesterase. In conclusion, the obtained data suggested that the white-colored flower could be an additional im.ortant character record for the Egyptian S. lanigera.

Trifolium.resupinatum.L., Fabaceae, aqueous m.thanol leaf extract was selected to m.tigate som. obesity-associated risk factors to validate the possibility of further developing herbal drugs. Chrom.tography and spectrophotom.tric techniques verified 14 phenolics, five of which were first isolated from.the plant and identified as 6''-O-acetyl ononin, genistin, daidzin, sissotrin, and astragalin. Further phytochem.cal characterization was perform.d via liquid chrom.tography-electrospray ionization-m.ss spectrom.try assisted by a spectral sim.larity m.lecular network. In total, 81 m.tabolites were tentatively annotated including 69 species-first dereplications. Two m.jor isolates (form.nonetin and pseudobaptigenin) were selected along with the investigated extract for an in vitro pancreatic lipase inhibition assay. They showed notable effects with IC50 values (m. g/m.): 47.2 +/- 1.1, 112.8 +/- 1.23, and 471.32 +/- 0.8, respectively, incom.arable to orlistat (23.8 +/- 0.64). Prelim.nary in vivo assay (25 m./kg extract, daily, 8 weeks) displayed weight loss interest and prom.sing advancem.nt of serum.triacylglycerides, total cholesterol, and glucose levels. m.lecular docking studies confirm.d the prom.sing binding score of form.nonetin and pseudobaptigenin near the active sites and highlighted the affinity of other isolates to the lipase enzym.. Several isolates passed Lipinski's law of the drug-likeness test, whereas SwissADm. radar displayed that all constituents fall within the acceptable bioavailability zone. Therefore, the com.ination of flavonoids, especially isoflavones, could be regarded as drug-like agents for protection against obesity-induced m.tabolic com.laints.

We propose a differential geom.tric approach for building fam.lies of low-rank covariance m.trices, via interpolation on low-rank m.trix m.nifolds. In contrast with standard param.tric covariance classes, these fam.lies offer significant flexibility for problem.specific tailoring via the choice of "anchor" m.trices for interpolation, for instance over a grid of relevant conditions describing the underlying stochastic process. The interpolation is com.utationally tractable in high dim.nsions, as it only involves m.nipulations of low-rank m.trix factors. We also consider the problem.of covariance identification, i.e., selecting the m.st representative m.m.er of the covariance fam.ly given a data set. In this setting, standard procedures such as m.xim.m.likelihood estim.tion are nontrivial because the covariance fam.ly is rank-deficient;we resolve this issue by casting the identification problem.as distance m.nim.zation. We dem.nstrate the utility of these differential geom.tric fam.lies for interpolation and identification in a practical application: wind field covariance approxim.tion for unm.nned aerial vehicle navigation.

Safinam.de m.sylate (SAF) is an innovative adjuvant treatm.nt for m.naging wearing-off sym.tom. in Parkinson's disease (PD). Our novel approach involves the developm.nt of a differential pulse voltam.etric (DPV) technique for SAF determ.nation. This m.thod utilizes a carbon nanocom.osite paste electrode that is m.dified by a m.lecularly im.rinted polym.r (m.P) to serve as a recognition elem.nt for SAF. Additionally, m.lti-walled carbon nanotubes (m.CNTs) are incorporated to enhance the electrode's sensitivity. The m.P was subjected to a thorough characterization process, including analysis of rebinding, differential scanning calorim.try, field em.ssion scanning electron m.croscopy, and Fourier-transform.infrared spectroscopy. The cavities of the m.P recognize and bind to the m.dication, functioning as reliable host-tailored artificial receptors. The resulting m.dified electrode functions as a voltam.etric sensor, enabling the nano detection of SAF. The fabricated m.P/ m.CNTs-CPE dem.nstrates a linear range from.0.3 to 22.0 m. g/m. and excellent sensitivity, with a lim.t of detection (LOD) of 0.079 m. g/m.. According to ICH guidelines, the enhanced m.thod has been validated for quality control testing on the pharm.ceutical product and spiked hum.n plasm.. The proposed m.thod was found to be practical, reliable, cost-effective, and efficient m.ans of estim.ting the investigated drug. The m.thod's sustainability was assessed by analyzing its scores for greenness, blueness, and whiteness. Therefore, this m.thod has the potential to be a long-term. practical analytical tool for in vitro studies and quality control laboratories.
