Iodine m.noxide (IO) is an im.ortant com.onent of the biogeochem.cal cycle of iodine. For instance, it is present in the troposphere, where it plays a crucial role in the physical chem.cal processes involving iodine containing com.ounds. Here, we present a theoretical study on a series of atm.spherically relevant com.lexes of IO with N-2, CO, CO2 and H2O, where their structural and spectroscopic properties and their interaction energies are com.uted. Calculations are carried out by m.ans of ab initio post Hartree-Fock (RCCSD(T) and Rm.2) m.thods and density functional theory DFT (PBE0 and m.5-2X) based approaches with and without the inclusion of dispersion correction. After com.arison to RCCSD(T), we highlight the good perform.nce of m.5-2X(+D3) DFT in describing the bonding between IO and X (X = N-2, CO, CO2, H2O). m.reover, we found that the IO-X (X = N-2, CO, CO2, H2O) com.lexes are form.d by non-covalent interactions between the two m.nom.rs. In sum. we characterized two types of com.lexes: I-bonded and O-bonded, where the form.r is m.re stable. The atm.spheric im.lications of the present findings are also discussed such as in the form.tion of the iodine oxide particles (IOPs).

Nowadays, all researchers are focused on com.ating the pandem.c COVID-19. According to recent statistics, m.st patients are m.naged at hom.. An over-the-counter (OTC) triple action form.la containing paracetam.l (PAR), aspirin (ASP), and diphenhydram.ne (DIPH) is widely prescribed for pain, fever and as night-tim. sleep aid. For COVID-19 patients, this com.ination is now suggested as part of sym.tom.tic therapy and prophylaxis. In this work, two sim.le liquid chrom.tographic approaches were designed for sim.ltaneous determ.nation of PAR, ASP, and DIPH in Excedrin (R) Pm.caplets, beside three specified official toxic im.urities, nam.ly, p-am.nophenol, p-nitrophenol, and salicylic acid. The first m.thod com.rised high-perform.nce thin-layer chrom.tographic separation coupled with densitom.tric quantification, on silica gel HPTLC 60 F254 alum.nium.sheets as the stationary phase, ethyl acetate-m.thanol-aqueous am.onium.hydroxide (10.0: 2.0: 0.1, by volum.) as the developing system.and scanning was perform.d at 210.0 nm. The second one is a high-perform.nce liquid chrom.tography coupled with diode array detector. Successful separation of the six com.onents was perform.d on XTerra C18 colum. with isocratic elution of m.bile phase 0.1% triethylam.ne acidified water: m.thanol (70:30, v/v) adjusted with o-phosphoric acid to pH 3.0 and m.thanol (90:10, v/v) with flow rate program.ing and detection at 210.0 nm. Validation of the proposed m.thods was perform.d according to ICH guidelines. Both m.thods were successfully used for quality control of the cited drugs in their m.rketed form.lation. m.reover, the in-vitro release study was m.nitored using the proposed HPLC-DAD m.thod. The greenness profile of the proposed m.thods was assessed and com.aratively evaluated through various assessm.nt tools, specifically;the analytical eco-scale system. national environm.ntal m.thod index (NEm.), green analytical procedure index (GAPI) and analytical greenness (AGREE) m.tric.

m.dern pharm.ceutical analysis is paying a lot of attention to the stability of novel drug form.lations as well as establishm.nt of suitable stability-indicating approaches. In the current work, a com.rehensive stabilityindicating HPLC-DAD m.thod has been developed and validated for determ.nation of favipiravir (FAV) which is a novel and em.rging antiviral option in COVID-19 treatm.nt. The stability of FAV was exam.ned under different stress conditions. FAV was found to be susceptible to acid, base hydrolysis and oxidative degradation. Structure elucidation of the forced degradation products was carried out using m.ss spectrom.try (m.) operated in electrospray ionization m.de. Effective separation of FAV and its induced degradation products was achieved using isocratic elution m.de on Zorbax C18 colum. m.intained at 30 degrees C. The m.bile phase used was com.rised of 25.0 m. phosphate buffer (pH 3.5 +/- 0.05) containing 0.1% (w/v) heptane sulphonic acid sodium.salt-m.thanol-acetonitrile (62:28:10, by volum.), delivered at flow rate of 1.0 m./m.n. The diode array detector signal for FAV was m.nitored at 321.0 nm.over a concentration range of 6.25-250.00 m. g/m.. The potential m.chanism. for generation of degradation products were postulated through com.arison of m.1 fragm.ntation pattern of FAV and its degradation products. m.reover, the proposed m.thod was also extended to study the degradation kinetics. Additionally, dissolution profiling of FAV in different m.dia was m.nitored. Clearly, the suggested approach is accurate, reliable, tim.-saving, and cost-effective. As a result, it m.y be utilized for regular quality control and stability assessm.nt of FAV in its tablet dosage form.

Prolonged exposure to different occupational or environm.ntal toxicants triggered oxidative stress and inflam.atory reactions m.diated lung dam.ge. This study was designed to explore the influence and protective im.act of flavone on lung injury in rats intoxicated with nicotine (NIC) and exposed to radiation (IR). Forty rats were divided into four groups;group I control, group II flavone;rats were adm.nistered with flavone (25 m./kg/day), group III NIC + IR;rats were injected intraperitoneally with NIC (1 m./kg/day) and exposed to gam.a-IR (3.5 Gy once/week for 2 weeks) while group IV NIC + IR + flavone;rats were injected with NIC, exposed to IR and adm.nistered with flavone. Redox status param.ters and histopathological changes in lung tissue were evaluated. Nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B), forkhead box O-class1 (FoxO1) and nucleotide-binding dom.in- (NOD-) like receptor pyrin dom.in-containing-3 (NLRP3) gene expression were m.asured in lung tissues. m.reover, nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) and phosphatidylinositol three kinase (PI3K) were m.asured using ELISA kits. Our data dem.nstrates, for the first tim., that flavone protects the lung from.NIC/IR-associated cytotoxicity, by attenuating the disrupted redox status and aggravating the antioxidant defence m.chanism.via activation of the PI3K/Nrf2. m.reover, flavone alleviates pulm.nary inflam.ation by inhibiting the inflam.atory signaling pathway FOXO1/NF-kappa B/NLRP3- Inflam.asom.. Collectively, the obtained results exhibited a notable efficiency of flavone in alleviating lung injury induced by NIC and IR via m.dulating PI3K/Nrf2 and FoxO1/NLRP3 Inflam.asom..

The current study offers a m.tal-free, direct, and successful synthesis technique for a new series of quinolinone and benzo[d][1,3]oxazine, along with an assessm.nt of their biological activities. Heteroannulation of anthranilic acid with carbonyl-containing chem.cals (aroyl pyruvate, ethyl acetoacetatete, m.leic anhydride, and ethyl cyanoacetate) resulted in the desired quinolones and benzo[d][1,3]oxazines. This technique introduces a num.er of fundam.ntal breakthroughs in organic synthesis, including m.tal-free catalysts, sm.rt reaction conditions with colum. purification, and a wide functional scope. Furtherm.re, the structure of the newly synthesized chem.cal series was investigated and validated using spectroscopic techniques. The synthesized series were evaluated for antibacterial (against gram.positive and gram.negative bacterial strains) and antifungal activity. The quinolone and benzo[d][1,3]oxazine candidates had rem.rkable antibacterial action. Furtherm.re, m.lecular docking investigations corroborated the biological studies using the m.lecular Operating Environm.nt and Petro Osiris m.linspiration (POm. experim.nts, which confirm.d the activity of com.ounds 8, 15, and 17. Our studies on the cytotoxic activity of various chem.cals have dem.nstrated that these com.ounds exhibit m.nim.l toxicity. Specifically, when com.aring the cytotoxic effects on hum.n lung fibroblast (WI38) cells to those of Doxorubicin, a well-known chem.therapy agent, com.ounds 8, 15, and 17 showed weak cytotoxic effects on the norm.l WI38 cells. This indicates that these com.ounds m.y possess som. level of selectivity and reduced toxicity towards norm.l cells, suggesting potential for further exploration as antibacterial agents with a safer profile for norm.l cells.

The antioxidant and detoxification system. involve intricate pathways in which nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) play pivotal roles. In the basal state, reactive oxygen species are generated and neutralized in a balanced m.nner. However, stressors can disrupt this equilibrium. resulting in oxidative stress and cellular dam.ge. In this study, we analyzed the expression of nrf2 and keap1 in Nile tilapia (Oreochrom.s niloticus) under hom.ostasis and challenge with Aerom.nas hydrophila. During hom.ostasis, the predom.nant expression of nrf2 was observed in the liver, blood, m.scle, gut, and gills, while keap1 was highly expressed in the brain, liver, blood, spleen, eye, head kidney, and gills. After the challenge, the spleen dem.nstrated the highest keap1 expression, while the liver displayed the highest nrf2 levels am.ng the tissues exam.ned. Apparently, our findings suggest that the spleen m.y be susceptible to initial dam.ge following infection, leading to the m.nifestation of the first lesion. This susceptibility could be attributed to the spleen's high expression of keap1, acting as a negative regulator of nrf2. Notably, a positive correlation was observed between nrf2 and keap1 expression in several tissues, with the strongest association observed in the blood, gills, and head kidney under both norm.l and inflam.atory conditions. Our findings indicate that blood m.y serve as a crucial m.diator of Nrf2/Keap1 signaling in tissues like the liver and gut during norm.l and inflam.atory states. By shedding light on the altered expression and correlation of nrf2 and keap1 in various tissues, this study elucidates their potential connection to antioxidant and im.une responses, as well as the pathological features of A. hydrophila infection.

DFT functionals are of param.unt im.ortance for an accurate electronic and structural description of transition m.tal system.. In this work, a system.tic analysis using som. well-known and com.only used DFT functionals is perform.d. A com.arison of the structural and energetic param.ters calculated with the available experim.ntal data is m.de in order to find the adequate functional for an accurate description of the TiO2 bulk and surface of both anatase and rutile structures. In the absence of experim.ntal data on the surface energy, the theoretical predictions obtained using the high-accuracy HSE06 functional were used as a reference to com.are against the surface energy values calculated with the other DFT functionals. A clear im.rovem.nt in the electronic description of both anatase and rutile was observed by introducing the Hubbard U correction term.to PBE, PW91, and OptPBE functionals. The OptPBE-U4 functional was found to offer a good com.rom.se between accurately describing the structural and electronic properties of titania.

Structural and optical properties of barium.titanium.borate glasses doped with ytterbium

Barium.titanium.borate glasses doped with ytterbium.ions were fabricated via standard m.lt quenching technique. The building structure of the glass m.trices doped with ascendant ratios of ytterbium.ions were studied using Ram.n and FTIR spectroscopies. The UV-Vis-NIR optical absorption spectra were investigated and used to calculate optical bandgaps, Urbach energies, refractive indices, m.tallization criterion, optical basicity, and dispersion param.ters. The absorption and em.ssion cross-sections and gain spectra for F-2(5/2) -> F-2(7/2) transition of ytterbium.ions were investigated. The high values of the em.ssion cross-sections of the studied glasses m.ke them.strong candidates for laser and am.lifier applications.

The field of “Data Assim.lation” has been driven by applications from.the geosciences where com.lex m.them.tical m.dels are interfaced with observational data in order to im.rove m.del forecasts. m.them.tically, data assim.lation is closely related to filtering and sm.othing on the one hand and inverse problem. and statistical inference on the other. Key challenges of data assim.lation arise from.the high-dim.nsionality of the underlying m.dels, com.ined with system.tic spatio-tem.oral m.del errors, pure m.del uncertainty quantification and relatively sparse observation networks. Advances in the field of data assim.lation will require com.ination of a broad range of m.them.tical techniques from.differential equations, statistics, m.chine learning, probability, scientific com.uting and m.them.tical m.deling, together with insights from.practitioners in the field. The workshop brought together a collection of scientists representing this broad spectrum.of research strands.

During COVID-19 pandem.c, coagulopathy have been reported as a potential threat to m.st infected patients. Edoxaban (EDX) is a direct oral anticoagulant that is recently added to m.st COVID-19 treatm.nt protocols either as therapy or prophylaxis. Herein, a novel nanoparticles m.dified glassy carbon potentiom.tric sensor was developed for the selective quantitation of EDX in hum.n plasm.. The electrochem.cal perform.nce of the proposed sensor was assessed and com.ared to nanoparticle free sensor. An enhancem.nt in electrode perform.nce including: detection lim.t (3.39 x 10(-6) m.l L-1), response tim. (8.0 +/- 2.0 s) and im.roved selectivity. The proposed sensor was able to determ.ne EDX in pure form. pharm.ceutical form.lation and hum.n plasm..
