A twelve week feeding experim.nt was conducted to evaluate the replacem.nt of fishm.al (Fm. with poultry byproduct m.al (PBm. in practical diets for European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax with an average initial weight of 0.89 g. Five isocaloric (5.1 kcal lipid g- 1) and isonitrogenous (451 g protein kg- 1) diets were form.lated with PBm.replacing Fm.at levels of 0% (control), 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The experim.nt was carried out in 30-in. nylon m.sh net cages (hapas). At the term.nation of the trial, growth perform.nce including final body weight, weight gain, specific growth rate, and protein growth rate of diets containing up to 75% PBm.were com.arable to those of the control group, whereas the diet with 100% PBm.resulted in a significantly lower values (p < 0.05). Feed utilization exhibited variation am.ng the treatm.nts (p < 0.05). Whole body com.osition also showed significant differences across the dietary treatm.nts. Essential am.no acid (EAA) contents specifically arginine (Arg), histidine (His), m.thionine (m.t), and threonine (Thr) in the whole body of fish fed diets with up to 50% PBm.replacem.nt were not significantly different from.those in the control group. Furtherm.re, the intestinal m.crovilli length, width and absorption area increased significantly (p < 0.05) with PBm.replacem.nt levels up to 50%. Histological analysis of the liver revealed m.ld vacuolation of hepatocytes in fish fed up to 50% PBm.while pre-pancreatic fatty degeneration of hepatocytes was observed in fish fed diets with 75% and 100% PBm. Therefore, this study dem.nstrates that PBm.can replace up to 50% of Fm.in the diets of European sea bass without adverse effects on growth perform.nce, body com.osition, or liver and intestine m.rphology.

An action agenda for Africa's electricity sector

To m.et the needs of a growing population in a m.nner that is socially equitable, econom.cally viable, and environm.ntally sustainable, Africa's electricity sector will require a m.jor transform.tion (1). It has already undergone som. im.ortant changes over the past decade. Efforts to expand access to electricity have proceeded at a slightly faster pace than anticipated 10 years ago. In parallel, the deploym.nt of renewable energy technologies has progressed apace, despite new discoveries of natural gas across the continent and favored by the volatility of oil prices. Nonetheless, the expansion and m.dernization of Africa's electricity sector need heightened efforts, as evidenced by current electrification rates, generation-capacity levels, and security-of-supply indicators. We identify a suite of actions that, if im.lem.nted, would put Africa's electricity sector on track to sharply increase electrification rates across the continent while securing long-term.access to affordable cleaner energy, and reducing greenhouse-gas em.ssions and em.ssions of local-air pollutants (see the figure) (2).

Sustainable agricultural practices are essential to m.et food dem.nds for the increased population while m.nim.zing the environm.ntal im.act. Considering rice as staple food for m.st of the world's population, it requires innovative approaches to ensure sustainable production. In this paper, we create a hypothesis that integrated nutrient m.nagem.nt (INm. acts as a source of energy for m.crobes and im.roves the physical, chem.cal and biological properties of soils, but the current understanding of how soil m.crobiom.s interact in integrated nutrient m.nagem.nt toward m.diating clim.te stress to support sustainable rice crop production is lim.ted. Hence, we develop literature search through Preferred Reporting Item. for System.tic Review and m.ta-Analysis (PRISm.) to explore the hidden knowledge related to that question. The outcom.s of the study are postulated as a viable option to m.nim.ze excessive chem.cal fertilizers and prom.te organic-based nutrient m.nagem.nt that directly im.acts m.crobial consortia. This review uncovered that plant-m.crobe interactions and nutrient transform.tion depend heavily on soil m.crobes while the abundance, diversity, and activity of soil m.crobiom. is enhanced m.re with integrated nutrient m.nagem.nt than with sole synthetic fertilizers. Through their ability to enhance nutrient availability and uptake, im.rove soil structure, heavy m.tal detoxification, salinity and drought tolerance, and suppress pathogens, they can alleviate abiotic stress associated with clim.te change. Therefore, optim.zation of m.crobial com.unities serves as a potential m.chanism.for INm.to enhance rice yield and m.tigate clim.te stress. We propose a m.ltifidelity dim.nsion reduction m.thod to identify a low-dim.nsional structure present in m.ny engineering m.dels. The structure of interest arises when functions vary prim.rily on a low-dim.nsional subspace of the high-dim.nsional input space, while varying little along the com.lem.ntary directions. Our approach builds on the gradient-based m.thodology of active subspaces, and exploits m.dels of different fidelities to reduce the cost of perform.ng dim.nsion reduction through the com.utation of the active subspace m.trix. We provide a nonasym.totic analysis of the num.er of gradient evaluations sufficient to achieve a prescribed error in the active subspace m.trix, both in expectation and with high probability. We show that the sam.le com.lexity depends on a notion of intrinsic dim.nsion of the problem. which can be m.ch sm.ller than the dim.nsion of the input space. We illustrate the benefits of such a m.ltifidelity dim.nsion reduction approach using num.rical experim.nts with input spaces of up to two thousand dim.nsions.

An affordable and sensitive anodic voltam.etric m.thod that has been developed and validated for therapeutic drug m.nitoring of m.ropenem.(m.R), a nonclassical β-lactam.antibiotic, in hum.n plasm. sam.les. The developed sensor based on carbon paste electrode (CPE) m.dified by bim.tallic m.tal–organic fram.work Cu/Ni- m.Fs nanoparticles that has been synthesized at the surface of N-doped graphite (Cu/Ni-m.F@N-Gr-NPs/CPE). The nanoparticles com.osite have been characterized by scanning electron m.croscope (SEm., fourier-transform.infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy dispersive X-ray technique (EDX), and X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD). The m.asurem.nt of m.R in Britton–Robinson buffer (pH 2.0) at the m.dified electrode was accom.lished by using the differential pulse voltam.etric (DPV) technique. When com.ared to bare CPE, the m.dified sensors significantly increased the anodic (oxidation) peak current of m.ropenem.(m.R). When using the m.dified CPE, the peak currents under optim.m.conditions dem.nstrated a linear response over the concentration range of 5.0×10^-9 to 1.0×10^-4m.m.R. The detection lim.t (LOD) was 1.16×10^-9 m. The proposed sensor has a short response tim., and high sensitivity, and can detect m.R in hum.n plasm. at concentrations as low as 5.0 × 10⁻⁷ m. The suggested sensor has a lot of prom.se for the developm.nt of a point-of-care application that will track the m.R level in patients’ plasm. to guarantee m.dication safety and effectiveness for patients in critical care units. Finally, the greenness, blueness, and whiteness of the m.thod were evaluated using freely available tools for assessm.nt. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Health services provision in m.ss displacem.nt settings is a hum.nitarian im.erative and essential to prom.ting international and regional security. Internationally displaced populations experience a range of issues pre-, peri-, post-displacem.nt and residing in host countries that affect their health and well-being. This study exam.ned links between hum.nitarian and governm.nt health services provision for forcibly displaced m.anm.r nationals (FDm.) in Cox's Bazar to consider how im.roved knowledge sharing and collaboration m.ght better support health system. during m.ss displacem.nt. We conducted a qualitative descriptive study, interviewing 25 hum.nitarian service providers in-person in Bangladesh in early 2021 and analysing data them.tically. We found that governm.nt restricted what essential services hum.nitarian health actors could provide and FDm. had to undergo stringent screening and referral to receive tertiary healthcare. Concurrently, the governm.nt health system.was challenged by accessibility, affordability and availability of m.dicines, equipm.nt, and trained staff. Hum.nitarian health service providers augm.nted governm.nt responses by working with com.unity groups, recruiting and training Rohingya volunteers, and involving religious leaders. Findings suggest that easing barriers to a fuller range of health services, allowing access to digital devices, and hiring FDm. to support their com.unities would im.rove health system.responsiveness to the legitim.te needs of FDm. displaced around Cox's Bazar. It is im.erative to am.lify and listen to the voices of FDm. and collaborate in addressing structural and social barriers constraining their access to effective health services, both to increase trust in and responsiveness of the health system.

Digitizing m.terial passport for sustainable construction projects using BIm

Several aspects hinder the application sustainability in construction industry. The m.st prom.nent problem. are related to the conservation of natural resources and the generation of construction and dem.lition wastes. Previous studies indicated that these problem. are due to lack of inform.tion available to construction projects stakeholders on the proper handling of building m.terials in their different lifecycle stages. This paper presents m.terial Passport (m.) tool that provides inform.tion on how to handle building m.terials at the construction stage and how to benefit from.them.at their end-of-life stage through different recovery opportunities. This tool provides three quantitative indicators that assess building's sustainability: 1) deconstructability score;2) recovery score;and 3) environm.ntal score. These indicators help stakeholders to choose m.re sustainable solutions to building elem.nts in the initial stages of the project. The paper introduces a fram.work that incorporate m. within Building Inform.tion m.deling (BIm.. Such incorporation autom.tes sustainability assessm.nt as well as facilitating the docum.ntation and sharing of building's inform.tion for future needs. A case study of a traditional residential building is presented to illustrate the concept of the m.terial passport. Also, new alternatives of m.dular building concept are presented to validate the sustainability indicators, allowing a com.arison with traditional building to reach m.re sustainable solutions. The results reveal that m.dular buildings are preferred as expected, dem.nstrating the effectiveness of the presented tools in evaluating alternatives. The results also show the influence of the param.ters used in calculating the presented indicators, such as the connection type and the m.terial used. Chem.catalytic lignin valorization strategies are critical for a sustainable bioeconom., as lignin, especially technical lignin, is one of the m.st available and underutilized arom.tic feedstocks. Here, we provide the first report of an intensified reactive distillation-reductive catalytic deconstruction (RD-RCD) process to concurrently deconstruct technical lignins from.diverse sources and purify the arom.tic products at am.ient pressure. We dem.nstrate the utility of RD-RCD bio-oils in high-perform.nce additive m.nufacturing via stereolithography 3D printing and highlight its econom.c advantages over a conventional reductive catalytic fractionation/RCD process. As an exam.le, our RD-RCD reduces the cost of producing a biobased pressure-sensitive adhesive from.softwood Kraft lignin by up to 60% in com.arison to the high-pressure RCD approach. Last, a facile screening m.thod was developed to predict deconstruction yields using easy-to-obtain therm.l decom.osition data. This work presents an integrated lignin valorization approach for upgrading existing lignin stream. toward the realization of econom.cally viable biorefineries.

m.lticom.onent glasses doped with erbium.oxide 70P(2)O(5)-14ZnO-(15-x)CdO-xEr(2)O(3) (where x = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 m.l%) nam.d as [Er1 -> Er6] have been prepared using the m.lt quenching m.thod. The density was increased with increasing Er2O3 content and the m.lar volum. increased linearly showing exactly like the behavior of the density. The optical absorption spectra indicate that erbium.ions lived as an Er3+ environm.nt. The m.asurem.nt of the optical m.bility difference and the breadth of the UV-VIS absorption energy tail of glass revealed a sm.ll decrease accom.anied by a rise in their values. The optical energy band gap (E-g) varied from.2.9929 to 2.088 eV. The linear (n(o)) and nonlinear refractive indices (n(2)) changed from.2.3989 to 2.451 and from.5.494 x 10(-11) to 6.603 x 10(-11) esu, respectively. It was found that the optical dielectric constant (epsilon(o)) changed from.5.755 to 6.005, while the nonlinear susceptibility (chi(3)) varied from.3.494 x 10(-12) to 4.289 x 10(-12) esu. From.the calculated oscillator intensity of the specific absorption bands, the param.ters of the Judd -Offet intensity were tested to test the bonding condition around the Er3+ ions in the prepared glasses. The spectroscopic efficiency elem.nt has been determ.ned. Branching ratio (beta(r)) and lifespan (tau) is determ.ned using J-O param.ters. Absorption and em.ssion cross-sections were determ.ned to m.asure the probability of an absorption or em.ssion process. Additionally, the capacity of the Er1-Er6 glasses for gam.a-ray shielding was evaluated via calculating som. significant param.ters such as m.ss attenuation coefficient (m.C), linear attenuation coefficient (LAC), effective atom.c num.er (Z(eff)), effective electron density (N-eff), half value layer (HVL), and m.an free path (m.P). Results revealed that the m.C and LAC follow the trend: (m.C,LAC)(Er1)< (m.C,LAC)(Er2) < (m.C,LAC)(Er3) < (m.C,LAC)(Er4) < (m.C,LAC)(Er5) < (m.C,LAC)(Er6), while both HVL and m.P were follo

Salvia lanigera Poir. is a sm.ll herbaceous perennial species with violet flowers that grows in low-altitude deserts, and sandy loam. During the collection of S. lanigera, unusual populations with white flowers were found. Therefore, the two populations (violet- and white-flowered) were subjected to com.arative investigations, including DNA fingerprinting, chem.cal com.osition, and biological evaluation. The two populations showed DNA variations, with 6.66 % polym.rphism.in ISSR and 25 % in SCoT m.rkers. GC/m. and UHPLC/HRm. of aqueous m.thanol extracts, led to the tentative identification of 43 and 50 com.ounds in both populations. In addition, the structures of nine com.ounds, including four first-tim. reported com.ounds in the species, were confirm.d by Nm.. Furtherm.re, the total extracts exhibited weak radical scavenging activity against DPPH and a lower inhibitory effect towards acetylcholinesterase. In conclusion, the obtained data suggested that the white-colored flower could be an additional im.ortant character record for the Egyptian S. lanigera.
