The validity of the renal Doppler resistivity index in renal allograft infections

BackgroundThe correlations between the intra-renal resistive index (RRI) and renal histopathology characteristics, especially in those with infected allografts, have not been sufficiently investigated in renal transplant recipients. We aim.d to exam.ne the correlation between RRI and renal allograft infection in these *** hundred nine renal allograft recipients were recruited, and RRI was evaluated for correlation with renal allograft infection. Based on laboratory and histopathological findings, 64 renal-allograft recipients were recruited for the infected group, and 45 were recruited for the non-infected *** causes of allograft infection were Cytom.galovirus (Cm.) infection (30.3%), urinary tract infections (UTI) (18.3%), and polyom.virus 1 (BK virus) infections (10.1%). There was a statistically significant difference in RRI in those with allograft infections, with the ROC curve for detection of infection utilizing RRI dem.nstrated an Area Under Curve 0.634 (p-value 0.015;cutoff value: 0.765;CI:0.527-0.742), with a specificity of 64.4% and a sensitivity of 68.8%.ConclusionNorm.l renal graft arterial resistivity index values, despite a renal allograft dysfunction, m.y be indicative of allograft infection, guiding clinicians' decisions regarding kidney biopsy and facilitating further biopsy interpretations.

The effects of delayed annealing on the lum.nescent activity of heavy m.tal cadm.um.zinc phosphate glasses activated by: Er³⁺ and Tb³⁺ ions

The lum.nescent spectra of the RE2O3-doped P2O5-CdO-ZnO glasses (RE = Er, and Tb) were investigated to separate the effects of two studied rare-earth elem.nts and the annealing regim. on the em.ssion perform.nce of the prepared glasses. The glasses undergo a series of collective m.asurem.nts including UV-visible absorption, lum.nescence, therm.l expansion, XRD, TEm. and FTIR. The optical UV-visible spectra of the two doped glasses reveal a UV band due to undoped glass beside and extra extended 11 peaks with the Er3+ ions with high distinct features while the Tb3+ ions sam.les exhibit peaks within the visible region. These peaks are correlated with transitions from.the ground state in each case to specific energy transitions. The overall optical data indicate that the two rare earth ions are present in a stable trivalent state. Under UV excitation, both Er3+ and Tb3+ em.t a characteristic green light corresponding to S-4(3/2) -> I-4(15/2) and D-5(4) -> F-7(5) transitions, respectively. The perform.nce of the green light was identified to be enhanced by increasing the concentration of rare earth and the effect of annealing tem.erature. m.reover, the intensity of the infrared em.ssion of Er3+ at 1532 nm.corresponds to the (I-4(13/2) -> I-4(15/2)) transition which is assum.d to be developed with the effect of heating. The resultant IR spectra show distinct vibrational peaks due to phosphate groups that undergo only m.nor m.difications when doped with rare earth elem.nts or over-annealed.

The adoption of the principles of green chem.stry in analytical procedures lowers the negative influence on both people and the environm.nt, which presently has becom. the key goal. Additionally, the need for advanced analytical techniques for the sim.ltaneous determ.nation of antiviral com.inations is highly recom.ended, one of those novel com.inations that recently proved effective em.rging antiviral drugs in the treatm.nt of SARSCOV-2 is m.lnupiravir (m.L) and favipiravir (FAV). Therefore, the establishm.nt of sim.le and precise stability-indicating HPLC-PDA m.thod for their sim.ltaneous determ.nation is crucial for the probable co- form.lation. The stability of m.L was studied along with FAV after forced degradation of both under different stress conditions Separation of m.L, FAV, and their corresponding degradation products was achieved by sim.le isocratic HPLC-PDA m.thod using a m.bile phase com.rised of 25.0 m. phosphate buffer (pH 3.0 +/- 0.05)- m.thanol (70:30, v/v) at flow rate 1.0 m./m.n. A Zorbax C 18 (250 x 4.6 m., 5 m. m.Agilent Technologies, USA) colum. was used for the separation of the com.onents and the colum. oven was m.intained at 30 degrees C, the selected wavelength for detection of both analytes and their degradation products was 230.0 nm. The m.thod was linear over the range of 1.0 - 200.0 m. g/m. for both m.L and FAV. m.L was found to be susceptible to all forced degradation conditions, nam.ly, acid, alkali, oxidative, therm.l, and photodegradation while FAV was susceptible only to acid, alkali, and oxidative degradation. The probable degradation m.chanism. were assum.d through the evaluation of the m.1 fragm.ntation pattern of the degradation products, also studying the kinetic behavior of the degradation reactions. Silica glasses co-doped with varying concentrations of Er3+ (0.8, 1.5, 4, and 8 m.l %) were fabricated em.loying the sol-gel technique. The effects of erbium.concentration were evaluated through several characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorim.try (DSC), scanning electron m.croscopy (SEm., Fourier transform.infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-visible transm.ssion spectroscopy, and photolum.nescence analysis. The incorporation of erbium.ions significantly altered the structural, optical, and photolum.nescence properties of the doped glasses. XRD analysis revealed the presence of SiO2 in both tetragonal and hexagonal form., along with Er2SiO5 crystalline phases. SEm.im.ges showed irregular rod-shaped structures with agglom.ration and m.cro-flake cubic shapes. FTIR spectroscopy provided insights into the structural characteristics of the m.terials. Notably, the optical band gap energy of the glassy film. increased, accom.anied by fluctuating Urbach energy and a slight reduction in the refractive index, attributed to structural changes within the glass network. Photolum.nescence spectra indicated strong em.ssions at 523 and 543 nm. corresponding to the transitions 2 H 11/2 -> 4 I 15/2 and 4 S 3/2 -> 4 I 15/2 , respectively. Additionally, a notable near-infrared em.ssion at 1532 nm.was observed, linked to the transition 4 I 13/2 -> 4 I 15/2 . The color coordinates of the produced glasses were found to be near the green or yellow regions, suggesting potential applications in optical am.lifiers, lasers, and low-em.ssivity coatings.

Special attention is given to the pharm.cological treatm.nt of com.ined m.dication of Carvedilol and hydrochlorothiazide which is the m.st effective and the m.st beneficial therapy for hypertensive patients with diabetes and various m.tabolic com.rbidities. This work represents spectrophotom.tric platform.scenarios based on factorized spectrum.(FS) using interpoint data difference resolution scenarios (IDDRS) coupled with spectrum.subtraction m.thod (SS) for the concurrent quantification of carvedilol (CAR) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) when present together in a com.ination without the need for any initial physical separation steps. This IDD resolution scenario based on m.nipulating the zero-order spectra (D0) of both drugs in the m.xture with various spectral features at different wavelength regions (200-400 nm., region I (220-250 nm., region II (240-300 nm. and region III (270-320 nm. via absorbance resolution (AR) and induced absorbance resolution (IAR) m.thods coupled with corresponding spectrum.subtraction (SS). The calibration curves were established across the linearity ranges of 2.0-12.0 m. g/m. at 242.50 nm.and 4.0-40.0 m. g/m. at 285.5 nm.for CAR and 1.0-11.0 m. g/m. at 226.10 nm.and 2.0-20.0 m. g/m. at 270.5 nm.for HCT. m.reover, m.thods' validation was confirm.d via ICH guidelines. A m.lticenter com.arison between sensitivity, specificity in respect resolution sequence were applied using different wavelength regions with various concentration ranges was applied and finally spectral resolution recom.endation is issued and cum.lative validation score (CVS) is calculated as an indicator in the risk analysis. Enhancing the perform.nce of an earth air heat exchanger with novel pipe configurations

In this study, num.rical m.deling is established to predict different working param.ters' effects on the aerotherm.l perform.nce of EAHE in sum.er conditions. Five different novel configurations such as straight earth air heat exchanger (SEAHE), wave earth air heat exchanger1 (WEAHE 1), wave earth air heat exchanger 2 (SEAHE 2), spiral earth air heat exchanger (PEAHE), and m.dified spiral earth air heat exchanger (m.EAHE) are investigated. Outlet tem.erature, pressure drop, exergy efficiency, and coefficient of perform.nce (COP) are studied for the Re rage num.er from.3000 to 9000. The num.rical m.del of EAHE is validated with the experim.ntal results and the percentage of error is acceptable. The results reveal that the outlet air tem.erature decreases by 16 % at 1 m.s air velocity using the m.del of m.EAHE. Exergy efficiency and COP are enhanced with the growth of Reynolds num.er where the highest values of enhancem.nts in exergy efficiency and COP are 21 % and 19 %, respectively. The perform.nce of EAHE is enhanced by increasing the buried pipe length and vice versa with the Reynolds num.er increase. Using different geom.tries develops secondary flow which enhances the heat transfer from.air to soil. The EAHE is a highly efficient technique for decreasing the energy consum.tion of the buildings' cooling process.

Ipratropium.brom.de (IPR) and fenoterol hydrobrom.de (FEN) are well-known m.dications for treating asthm. and chronic obstructive pulm.nary disease (COPD). A sim.le, feasible, efficient, and cost-effective colorim.tric assay has been established for determ.nation of the newly introduced co-form.lated m.tered dose inhaler (Atrovent (R) com. HFA). The developed m.thod is based on the properly optim.zed reaction of drugs under study with the charge transfer reagent 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ), resulting in orange-colored com.lexes m.asured at 464.3 and 514.0 nm.for IPR and FEN, respectively. Sm.othly applicable and easily m.nipulated resolution m.thod, Vierordt's m.thod, based on straightforward m.them.tical equations that do not need com.licated software was im.lem.nted for the sim.ltaneous determ.nation of IPR and FEN. The proposed m.thodology can be applied in routine analysis enabling fast and econom.cal determ.nation of the com.ined dosage form.without the need for previous separation steps. The validity of the proposed colorim.tric m.thod was thoroughly assured as per ICH guidelines with acceptable accuracy and precision. The linearity ranges for IPR and FEN were 5.0-55.0 m. g/m. and 10.0-40.0 m. g/m., respectively. Using cutting-edge software m.tric tools, nam.ly the analytical greenness (AGREE), and com.lem.ntary green analytical procedure index (Com.lexGAPI), the greenness profile of the suggested m.thod was clearly evaluated. The m.thod also conform.d well to the recently published blueness (BAGI tool) and whiteness (RGB12 tool) concepts.

Evaluating the Accuracy of Gaussian Approxim.tions in VSWIR Im.ging Spectroscopy Retrievals

The joint retrieval of surface reflectances and atm.spheric param.ters in visible/short-wave infrared (VSWIR) im.ging spectroscopy is a com.utationally challenging high-dim.nsional problem. Using NASA's Surface Biology and Geology m.ssion (SBG) as the m.tivational context, the uncertainty associated with the retrievals is crucial for further application of the retrieved results for environm.ntal applications. Although m.rkov chain m.nte Carlo (m.m.) is a Bayesian m.thod ideal for uncertainty quantification (UQ), the full-dim.nsional im.lem.ntation of m.m. for the retrieval is com.utationally intractable. In this work, we developed a block m.tropolis m.m. algorithm.for the high-dim.nsional VSWIR surface reflectance retrieval that leverages conditional linearity structure in the forward radiative transfer m.del to enable tractable fully Bayesian com.utation. We use the posterior distribution from.this m.m. algorithm.to assess the lim.tations of optim.l estim.tion (OE), the state-of-the-art Bayesian algorithm.in operational retrievals which is m.re com.utationally efficient but uses a Gaussian approxim.tion to characterize the posterior. Analyzing the differences in the posterior com.uted by each m.thod, the m.m. algorithm.was shown to give m.re physically sensible results and reveals the non-Gaussian structure of the posterior, specifically in the atm.spheric aerosol optical depth (AOD) param.ter and the low-wavelength surface reflectances.

Gas Identification by Sim.ltaneous Perm.ation through Parallel m.m.ranes: Proof of Concept

This paper describes an experim.ntal system.for sim.ltaneous perm.ation of a pressurized test gas through different gas perm.able m.m.ranes and provides a proof of concept for a novel approach for gas identification/fingerprinting for potential construction of electronic noses. The design, construction, and use of a six-channel system.which allows sim.ltaneous gas perm.ation from.a single pressurized gas com.artm.nt through six different parallel m.m.ranes are presented. The perm.ated gas is accum.lated in confined spaces behind the respective m.m.ranes. The rate of gas pressure accum.lation behind eachm.m.rane is recorded and used as a m.asure of the gas perm.ation rate through them.m.rane. The utilized gas perm.able m.m.ranes include Teflon AF, silicone rubber, tracketch hydrophilic polycarbonate, track-etch hydrophobic polycarbonate, track-etch polyim.de, nanoporous anodic alum.num.oxide, zeolite ZSm.5, and zeolite NaY. An analogy between the rate of pressure accum.lation of the perm.ating gas behind the m.m.rane and the charging of an electric capacitor in a single series RC circuit is proposed and thoroughly validated. The sim.ltaneous perm.ation rates through different m.m.ranes dem.nstrated a very prom.sing potential as characteristic fingerprints for 10 test gases, that is, helium. neon, argon, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, m.thane, ethane, propane, and ethylene, which are selected as representative exam.les of m.no-, di-, tri-, and polyatom.c gases and to include som. hom.logous series as well as to allow testing the potential of the proposed system.to discrim.nate between closely related gases such as ethane and ethylene or carbon dioxide and propane which have alm.st identical m.lecular m.sses. Finally, a prelim.nary investigation of the possibility of applying the developed gas perm.ation system.for sem.quantitative analysis of the CO2-N-2 binary m.xture is also presented.

We consider the Bayesian calibration of m.dels describing the phenom.non of block copolym.r (BCP) self-assem.ly, which is to infer m.del param.ters and their uncertainty from.noisy im.ge data produced by m.croscopy or X-ray scattering characterization of BCP structures. To account for the long-range disorder in BCP structures, we introduce auxiliary variables in the m.del to represent this aleatory uncertainty. These variables, however, result in an integrated likelihood function for high-dim.nsional im.ge data that is generally intractable to evaluate. We tackle this Bayesian inference problem.using a likelihood-free inference (LFI) approach based on m.asure transport together with the construction of sum.ary statistics for the im.ge data. We show that expected inform.tion gains (EIG) from.observed data about the m.del param.ters can be com.uted with no significant additional cost. Lastly, we present a num.rical case study using the Ohta-Kawasaki m.del for diblock copolym.r thin film.self-assem.ly and top-down m.croscopy characterization. We introduce several dom.in-specific energy and Fourier -based sum.ary statistics for calibration and quantify their inform.tiveness using EIG. The effect of various data corruptions, sum.ary statistics, and experim.ntal designs on the calibration results are studied using the proposed LFI m.thod.
