A Reliable Electrochem.cal Sensor Based on Functionalized m.gnetite Nanoparticles for Over-the-counter Allergy m.dication Abuse Sensing in Biological Fluids

Diphenhydram.ne (DIPH) has becom. one of the world's m.st widely abused over-the-counter m.dications. In addition to relieving allergy sym.tom., it is also recognized for causing elevated energy and m.ld euphoric effects. The U.S. Food and Drug Adm.nistration (FDA) has recently warned about serious problem. at high doses including heart problem., seizures, com. or even death am.ng addicted teenagers. Herein, a sim.le, cost-effective, and reliable nanocom.osite based electrochem.cal sensor was designed for DIPH quantification in biological fluids. Introducing the functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) into the inner-filling solution and the PVC-based ion sensing m.m.rane has been em.loyed and com.ared to the classical potentiom.tric approach. The nanoparticles were incorporated to endorse in situ cooperative ion-pairing interaction between the ionophore and DIPH, and to im.rove the selectivity and detection lim.t (9.5x10(-8) m.. Nernstian potentiom.tric response was achieved for DIPH over the concentration range of 1.0x10(-7) to 1.0x10(-2) m.with a slope of 59.0 +/- 0.2 m./decade. Inherent m.rits of the proposed sensor include fast response tim. (6 s), superior stability (60 days) with higher sensitivity and selectivity towards DIPH without interference from.co-form.lated drugs and several ions com.only found in biological m.trices. The proposed sensor was successfully applied to the potentiom.tric determ.nation of DIPH in different biological fluids (plasm. and hum.n m.lk) with an average recovery of 99.06 +/- 1.95 % and 100.34 +/- 1.92 %, respectively. As a consequence, the developed ISE m.ght be the ideal choice for in-line DIPH m.asurem.nts in plasm. sam.les to identify overdose ingestion and its related sym.tom., as well as for quality-control laboratories without prior treatm.nts.

Evaluating the effects of bifurcation angle on the perform.nce of a novel heat exchanger based on contractual theory

In this study, num.rical and experim.ntal analysis is presented to study the influences of bifurcation angles on the therm.-hydraulic perform.nce in a novel heat exchanger by adopting contractual theory. The param.ters of overall heat transfer coefficient, exergy efficiency, pressure drop, and coefficient of perform.nce are investigated with three bifurcation angles (alpha = 120o, 150o, 180o). The m.ss flow rate in shell side is constant at 0.33 kg/s whereas the m.ss flow rates in tubes fluctuate from.0.169 to 0.331 kg/s. The num.rical m.del was accom.lished and the num.rical results were validated by the experim.ntal results and the error percentages are agreeable. The results show that the novel configurations of the heat exchanger based on constructed theory enhance heat transfer com.ared to standard shapes. The bifurcation angle of 150o accom.lishes the highest enhancem.nt of heat transfer whereas the heat exchanger with a bifurcation angle of 180o has the highest pressure drop. The configuration with alpha = 150o achieves higher values of COP com.ared to the other angles. The exergy efficiency im.roves with Re where the configuration with alpha = 180o has higher exergy efficiency. The contours, stream.ines, and vectors of the tem.erature, velocity, and pressure distributions give investigation for the fluid stream.inside the shell and tubes.

The African m.stard, Brassica tournefortii, is a traditional m.dicinal food plant growing broadly on the m.diterranean coastline from.El-Saloum.to the Sinai Peninsula in the Egyptian Desert. In addition to its culinary uses, it is regarded as a very effective therapeutic herb due to its antioxidant propensities based on phenolic constituents, glucosinolates, and carotenoids. This study endeavored to spotlight the biotechnological application of B. tournefortii via LC-ESI-m./m. in synergism.with m.lecular networking (-m.). Aqueous ethanol extract of B. tournefortii (BAEE) was subjected to in vitro biological evaluations (antioxidant and anti-inflam.ation evaluations). Eighty com.ounds were annotated com.rising 74 species-first detections, with the prevalence of flavonol-O-glycosides, followed by hydroxycinnam.c and benzoic acids then phospholipids. Additionally, the BAEE showed DPPH and NO radical scavenging inhibition with an IC50 (74 f 1.01 and 99.87 f 0.68 m. g/m.), com.ared to ascorbic acid (201 f 0.98 and 75.25 f 0.87 m. g/m.) and BHT (83 f 1.84 and 63.35 f 0.91 m. g/m.), respectively. m.reover, in vitro anti-inflam.atory evaluation showed that BAEE gave potent inhibition of COX-1 and COX-2 with IC50 (2.9 f 0.06 and 0.93 f 0.058 m. g/m.) com.ared with Celecoxib (48 f 0.52 and 1.09 f 0.01 m. g/m.), Indom.thacin (27 f 0.1 and 0.762 f 0.003 m. g/m.), and Ibuprofen (0.97 f 0.052 and 15 f 0.612 m. g/ m.), respectively. The identified m.tabolites could be responsible for the observed antioxidant and anti-inflam.atory potentials that tend to advocate for a dire need for further in vivo studies.

A series of glass-ceram.cs was synthesized from.a ternary system.com.rising the glass-form.ng oxide B2O3, granite sludge waste, and varying am.unts of the heavy m.tal oxide (Hm.) Bi2O3, using a controlled heat-treatm.nt process guided by differential therm.l analysis (DTA). The crystallization behavior was optim.zed based on DTA results, while X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution scanning electron m.croscopy (HRSEm. were used to characterize the crystalline phases and m.crostructure. XRD analysis confirm.d the am.rphous nature of the parent glasses. Upon heat treatm.nt at 600 degrees C, crystallization was initiated with the form.tion of crystalline SiO2 in both orthorhom.ic and tetragonal form.. At higher Bi2O3 concentrations, a m.noclinic bism.te phase also em.rged. Further heating to 650 degrees C led to the developm.nt of the sam. crystalline phases, but with significantly sharper and m.re intense diffraction peaks, indicating im.roved crystallinity. HRSEm.im.ging revealed hexagonal plate-like crystals in undoped sam.les, which transform.d into petal-shaped m.rphologies as the Bi2O3 content increased to 10 wt%. Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy confirm.d the elem.ntal com.ositions corresponding to the crystalline phases identified by XRD. Photolum.nescence m.asurem.nts showed blue em.ssion at 448 nm.in both glass and glass-ceram.c sam.les, attributed to radiative transitions of excited Bi-3(+) ions or defect-related lum.nescent centers. m.crohardness testing indicated a reduction in hardness with increasing Bi2O3 content;however, the glass-ceram.cs exhibited significantly higher hardness than their am.rphous counterparts, due to crystallization during heat treatm.nt. This study dem.nstrates a sustainable m.thod for recycling solid waste into functional glass-ceram.cs and highlights their potential applications in structural m.terials and optoelectronics.

Parkinson's disease (PD) em.rges as a notable health concern am.ng the elderly population. Safinam.de m.sylate (SAF) is a novel and em.rging add-on therapy in PD treatm.nt. The stability of innovative drug form.lations and the developm.nt of appropriate stability-indicating m.thods are of great im.ortance to m.dern pharm.ceutical analysis. The current work has established novel com.rehensive stability-indicating chrom.tographic approaches, HPTLC coupled with densitom.tric quantification and HPLC-DAD, for the selective assay of SAF in pharm.ceutical form.lation along with its synthetic precursor im.urity;4-hydroxy benzaldehyde (4-HBD) in presence of its stress induced degradation products. The stability of SAF was investigated under different stress conditions. It was found that SAF is likely to undergo acid, base hydrolysis, and oxidative degradation. Using m.ss spectrom.try and infrared spectroscopy, the structures of the forced degradation products were confirm.d and elucidated. The dissolution behavior of Parkim.dine (R) Tablets was also m.nitored in the FDA suitable m.dium. m.ltiple assessm.nt tools were used to evaluate the environm.ntal sustainability of the proposed m.thods and the reported one. The greenness tools included Com.lex-GAPI and AGREE m.trics. In addition, the innovative concepts of "blueness" and "whiteness" evaluation were incorporated through the newly introduced BAGI and RGB12 algorithm., respectively.

A new rectangular dielectric resonator sensor for glucose m.asurem.nt: Design, m.deling, and experim.ntal validation

This study introduces a novel sensor for glucose m.asurem.nt based on a rectangular dielectric resonator (RDR) excited by a rectangular slot fed by a 50-om.ga m.crostrip line. The RDR operates at 6 GHz and incorporates a cubic portion section for accom.odating a finger or container containing the test sam.le. By utilizing the distinctive resonant frequencies associated with varying dielectric perm.ttivity of different glucose concentrations, the proposed RDR functions as a reliable sensor. The sensor's perform.nce is evaluated through a 3D electrom.gnetic m.del of the hum.n thum. and the application of the Cole-Cole m.thod for m.deling the blood layer. Experim.ntal validation is conducted using three alternatives (water, glucose, and alcohol) and a range of glucose concentrations (70 to 2000 m./dL) in sim.lation. During experim.ntal verification, an invasive glucom.ter is em.loyed as a reference for blood sugar levels. Results dem.nstrate that the proposed RDR sensor exhibits higher sensitivity (36.86 m.z/(m./dL)) than other sensor counterparts. The experim.ntal outcom.s confirm.the resonance frequency alignm.nt between the m.nufactured sensor and the sim.lated projections. Considering its econom.c viability and applicability, this sensor represents a prom.sing alternative biosensor for m.nitoring blood glucose levels. Cardiovascular disorders are am.ng the leading causes of death worldwide, especially hypertension, a silent killer syndrom. requiring m.ltiple drug therapy for appropriate m.nagem.nt. Hydrochlorothiazide is an extensively utilized thiazide diuretic that com.ines with several antihypertensive drugs for effective treatm.nt of hypertension. In this study, sustainable, innovative and accurate high perform.nce liquid chrom.tographic m.thods with diode array and tandem.m.ss detectors (HPLC-DAD and LC-m./m.) were developed, optim.zed and validated for the concurrent determ.nation of Hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) along with five antihypertensive drugs, nam.ly;Valsartan (VAL), Am.odipine besylate (Am.), Atenolol (ATN), Am.loride hydrochloride (Am.), and Candesartan cilextil (CAN) in their diverse pharm.ceutical dosage form. and in the presence of Chlorothiazide (CT) and Salam.de (DSA) as HCT officially identified im.urities. The HPLC-DAD separation was achieved utilizing Inertsil ODS-3 C18 colum. (250 x 4.6 m., 5 m. m. attached with photodiode array detection at 225.0 nm. Gradient elution was perform.d utilizing a m.xture of solvent A (20.0 m. potassium.dihydrogen phosphate, pH 3.0 +/- 0.2, adjusted with phosphoric acid) and solvent B (acetonitrile) at am.ient tem.erature. Linearity ranges were 0.1-100.0 m. g/m. for HCT, VAL, Am. and CAN, 0.05 -100.0 m. g/ m. for both ATN and Am. and 0.05-8.0 m. g/m. for both CT and DSA. Additionally, this work describes the use of liquid chrom.tography-electrospray-tandem.m.ss spectrom.try for the accurate detection and quantification of the im.urities;CT and DSA in the negative m.de utilizing triple quadrupole m.ss spectrom.try. The m.tivation for this work was to find the structure param.ters of 80TeO2 - (20-x) WO3 - x Sm.O3, 0 <= x <= 5m.l% (TWSm., and 80TeO2 - (20-x) WO3 - x Yb2O3, 0 <= x <= 5 m.l% (TWYb). Radial distribution function (RDF) and Gaussian fitting of the (RDF) were denoted as N4(IR) and N4(X-ray), respectively, have been achieved. We have successfully deconvolved Ram.n spectra of the two glass system.. The Te-Te, O-O, X-X (X = Sm.& Yb), Te-O, WO, and X-O (X = Sm.& Yb) bond lengths and the fractions of tellurium.atom. coordinated by four O-atom. were derived. m.reover, theoretical bulk m.dulus (Kbc), (nb), num.er of bonds per unit volum., Poisson's ratio (sigm.), and stretching force constant (F) have been found. Finally, average atom.c ring diam.ter (& ell;), cross-link density (nc), logarithm.of (Ke), (Vm., and power (alpha) of the two glass system. have been calculated for every com.osition in the two-glass series.

Portability and scalability evaluation of large-scale statistical m.deling and prediction software through HPC-ready containers

HPC-based applications often have com.lex workflows with m.ny software dependencies that hinder their portability on contem.orary HPC architectures. In addition, these applications often require extraordinary efforts to deploy and execute at perform.nce potential on new HPC system., while the users expert in these applications generally have less expertise in HPC and related technologies. This paper provides a dynam.c solution that facilitates containerization for transferring HPC software onto diverse parallel system.. The study relies on the HPC Workflow as a Service (HPCWaaS) paradigm.proposed by the EuroHPC eFlows4HPC project. It offers to deploy workflows through containers tailored for any of a num.er of specific HPC system.. Traditional container im.ge creation tools rely on OS system.packages com.iled for generic architecture fam.lies (x86_64, am.64, ppc64, ... ) and specific m.I or GPU runtim. library versions. The containerization solution proposed in this paper leverages HPC Builders such as Spack or Easybuild and m.lti-platform.builders such as buildx to create a service for autom.ting the creation of container im.ges for the software specific to each hardware architecture, aim.ng to sustain the overall perform.nce of the software. We assess the efficiency of our proposed solution for porting the geostatistics ExaGeoStat software on various parallel system. while preserving the com.utational perform.nce. The results show that the perform.nce of the generated im.ges is com.arable with the native execution of the software on the sam. architectures. On the distributed-m.m.ry system. the containerized version can scale up to 256 nodes without im.acting perform.nce.

Investigation of photolum.nescence and spectroscopic properties of Sm.SUP>3+-doped heavy phosphate glasses before and after gam.a irradiation

The present study com.rises the effects of som. selected heavy m.tal oxides (PbO, Bi2O3, CdO, BaO) in binary phosphate glasses on the collective optical, photolum.nescence, FTIR and ESR spectra with the presence of sam.rium.ions before and after gam.a irradiation (10 m.ad). The optical spectral results reveal the appearance of distinct UV absorption related to traces im.urity of Fe3+ ions besides the additional presence of two rows of extending (visible-near IR) absorption due to sm.3+) ions. The effects of heavy m.tal oxides and gam.a irradiation show m.nor changes in the optical spectra. PL spectra show prom.nent em.ssion and excitation peaks which are characteristic for trivalent sam.rium.(Sm.+) ions. FTIR spectra reveal pronounced IR vibrational peaks due to the phosphate groups beside the sharing of m.xed or interfering structural units of PbO4, BiO6-BiO3 or CdO4. ESR spectral data reveal sim.lar signals with the different heavy m.tal oxide partner and confirm.ng that the trivalent sam.rium.is the dom.nant species as revealed by optical spectral m.asurem.nts. The extra therm.l expansion data are found to be com.arable with lim.ted variations due to the type of partner heavy m.tal oxide and its ability to share in form.ng som. additional structural units. The overall results have been interpreted and evaluated.
