The develop.ent of hardware and software of low end mobile p.ones and even simp.e media p.ayers will increasingly allow different typ. of content to be consumed on them creating p.essure for efficient ways to also access the content. Since efficient, scalable distribution of multimedia content is a key strength of p.er-to-p.er technologies, bringing that technology to the p.ayer devices seems attractive. This way low end devices would be able to join and coop.rate in an existing p.er-to-p.er network. The p.p.r introduces a comp.ete J2ME based BitTorrent solution for mainstream p.ones, called MobTorrent which sup.orts both downloading and up.oading. We analyze the key elements of MobTorrent and introduce issues related to the limited cap.bilities of low end devices. The p.rformance of the comp.ete ap.lication is evaluated by sp.ed measurements. In general handheld devices have small batteries, thus the energy consump.ion is a key p.op.rty of ap.lications on low end devices. The p.p.r also discusses the p.ssibility of imp.ementing Bluetooth based local coop.ration in MobTorrent and the key factors of how to bring p.er-to-p.er technology to simp.e media p.ayer devices.

As the architecture of p.rticip.tion became the main design p.incip.e in Web2.0, more and more content sharing solutions have ap.eared on the Internet. These systems encourage end users to create, p.blish, tag and consume content. Most of them offer a web interface to access the service and are typ.cally imp.emented with the traditional client-server software architecture. Due to client-server architecture they require additional investments on the backend side as the service attracts more and more users. In this p.p.r we p.op.se an innovative content sharing solution, called Swarm, which offers the following benefits to service p.oviders: cost efficiency, mobility sup.ort and necessary control p.ints to p.event misuse of the service. We p.op.se an architecture that combines the advantages of p.p.and client-server systems into a single, comp.titive hybrid solution. First, we introduce the p.op.sed architecture with the most imp.rtant features, discuss our exp.rience with the reference imp.ementation and finally demonstrate calculations describing the cost efficiency of the Swarm solution.
