Enhancing CO2 hydrate sequestration through underlying methane hydrate production: A novel strategy for carbon storage

Seafloor CO2 sequestration in the form of gas hydrates offers expansive geological opportunities for carbon neutrality strategies. Guided by phase equilibrium conditions, this study employs a self-developed multi-physical simulator to investigate how methane hydrate production beneath a CO2 sequestration zone can facilitate carbon storage. A dual-horizontal-well model is constructed and validated based on field measurements. Through numerical simulations, the effects of methane hydrate production timing, CO2 injection rate, and injection depth on carbon sequestration over a 100,000-year timescale are examined. Two novel metrics-sequestration efficiency and safe distance-are introduced. Results indicate that extracting methane hydrates in the later stages of CO2 injection is optimal. Furthermore, an efficient sequestration window exists for both injection rate and depth. By exploring the relationship between sequestration efficiency and storage safety, this study provides a new perspective for implementing CO2 sequestration pathways.

Gas hydrate occurs in hydrate reservoirs in a solid form. At present, the conventional exploitation method is to decompose solid hydrate and then extract the resulting gaseous gas. Therefore, the occurrence law of gas in a reservoir is of great significance for the study of gas hydrate seepage and productivity. Adsorption, as an important occurrence mode, has been widely concerned in the research on shale reservoirs. However, the adsorption problem in hydrate reservoirs has not received enough attention. In this paper, the existence of adsorption in a hydrate reservoir has been experimentally confirmed for the first time. Based on the argillaceous silt of a natural gas hydrate reservoir in the South China Sea, the pore structure and adsorption characteristics of argillaceous silt were experimentally studied, and the results were compared with those of typical shale reservoirs. The modified Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushevich equations were used to fit the adsorption data, and the suitable adsorption model of argillaceous silt was established and optimized. The results showed that the inhomogeneous slit pores are dominant in argillaceous silt, and they are formed by the accumulation of lamellar particles. Compared with shale, the adsorption capacity of argillaceous silt is weak under the same conditions. However, adsorption is a spontaneous exothermic reaction, and the ambient temperature of argillaceous silt is much lower than that of shale. Therefore, it is possible for argillaceous silt to achieve an adsorption capacity comparable to that of shale. The modified Langmuir model can be used to simulate argillaceous silt adsorption at low pressure, while under medium and high pressures, the modified Dubinin-Radushevich model performs better. The adsorption capacity of argillaceous silt is affected by moisture. Accurate multiclassification and segmentation of gastric cancer based on a hybrid cascaded deep learning model with a vision transformer from endoscopic images

Compared with other forms of cancer, gastric cancer has high mortality and incidence rates, making it a major cause of death worldwide. Accurate diagnosis is crucial in the treatment of stomach cancer. Researchers have used deep learning techniques facilitated by developments in artificial intelligence to classify and segment endoscopic images of stomach cancer. Most recent research examining endoscopic images of stomach cancer has used a binary classification system, which is insufficient for practical use. False -positives and computational costs become problematic when segmentation is applied to all the images of healthy patients obtained throughout the evaluation. Hence, the expected level of performance has not been attained in the real-time multiclassification and segmentation of stomach cancer. In this study, we present a deep learning -based technique for multiclassification of endoscopic images by combining modified GoogLeNet and vision transformer (ViT) models and identifying invasive areas based on Faster RCNN. The classification of endoscopic images into three categories, namely, normal, early gastric cancer, and advanced gastric cancer, is accomplished by using a hybrid approach including modified GoogLeNet and vision transformer (ViT) models. Gastric cancer regions are then identified and segmented in the endoscopic images using the Faster R -CNN method. The Faster R -CNN algorithm is used with an endoscopic image as input, resulting in the generation of a bounding box and label image that accurately represents the gastric cancerous area. The proposed model achieved an accuracy, sensitivity and F1 -score of 97.4%, 97.5% and 95.9%, respectively, for the classification of noncancerous, early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer. Furthermore, the performance of the segmentation method was also validated based on evaluation metrics and achieved 96.7%, 96.6% and 95.5% accuracy, sensitivity and F1 -score, respectively, for the segmentation of noncancer

Encapsulated polymer refers to Micro/Nano-scale particles with polymer as the core, which can release the polymer to achieve thickening. Encapsulated polymer flooding is a new type of deep profile control technology suitable for further improving the oil recovery of conventional reservoirs. However, the adsorption and temporary blockage behaviors of encapsulated polymer particles in porous media significantly affect the accurate description of their targeted viscosity enhancement. On this account, we investigated how encapsulated polymer particles adsorb and temporarily block. Using PDMS material microfluidic chips, we investigated the flow behavior of encapsulated polymer in seven different pore throat structures. High-precision pressure sensors and microscopes were employed to real-time capture microscopic flow images of microcapsule particles inside single micro-channels and observe pressure fluctuation characteristics. Based on particle image velocimetry (PIV) systems, we studied the diverting fluid behavior in parallel micro-channels with different width ratios. Building on this, we conducted dynamic adsorption experiments to quantitatively characterize the adsorption and retention behavior of encapsulated polymer particles in porous media. In this study, we observed four phenomena of free flow, surface adsorption, blockage, and multi-particle aggregation slug flow during the flow of encapsulated polymer particles in a single microchannel. In parallel microchannels, the capsule particles exhibited selectivity towards flow paths, primarily entering wider throats. With the increase of the width ratio, the encapsulated polymer particles in the narrow throat are more confined and are more likely to accumulate in the throat and cause blockage. Experiments in porous media show that the adsorption and retention of capsule particles are inversely proportional to the permeability. Gas hydrate in-situ formation and dissociation in clayey-silt sediments: An investigation by low-field NMR

The hydrate reservoir in the Shenhu Area of the South China Sea is a typical clayey-silt porous media with high clay mineral content and poor cementation, in which gas hydrate formation and dissociation characteristics are unclear. In this study, the CO2 hydrate saturation, growth rate, and permeability were studied in sandstone, artificial samples, and clayey-silt sediments using a custom-built measurement apparatus based on the low-field NMR technique. Results show that the T-2 spectra amplitudes decrease with the hydrate formation and increase with the dissociation process. For the artificial samples and Shenhu sediments, the CO2 hydrate occupies larger pores first and the homogeneity of the sandstone pores becomes poor. Meanwhile, compared with the clayey-silt sediments, CO2 hydrate is easier to form and with higher hydrate saturation for the sandstone and artificial samples. In hydrate dissociation process, there exists a protection mechanism, i.e. the dissociation near the center of hydrates grain is suppressed when gas pressure drops suddenly and quickly. For permeability of those samples, it decreased with hydrate forms, and increases with hydrate dissociation. Meanwhile, with the same hydrate saturation, permeability is higher in hydrate formation than in dissociation.

This paper presents an improved prediction model based on LSTM to solve traditional network security situation perception and prediction problems. Due to the significant advantages of BiLSTM in processing network data with time series characteristics and often related content, this paper will design a prediction model based on the Bi-LTM model. As a neural network model, the setting of LSTM’s superparameters is always a difficult point. On the basis of BiLSTM, this paper improves the original algorithm by using the immune genetic algorithm IGA, which enables the new algorithm to select better parameters and process random data on the basis of processing time series data. In this article, we analyze the UNSW-NB15 intrusion detection dataset, which will be used to train and test our model. Compared with the original LSTM algorithm and Bi LSTM algorithm, the prediction accuracy of the final model is improved. In the binary classification problem, the prediction accuracy has been improved by 1%-2%. In the multi classification problem, the prediction accuracy has improved by up to 3%, while F1 Measure has also improved by 2%. In the recognition of different types of anomalies, the F1-Measure of the IGA-LSTM model also has an improvement of 1%-2%. Finally, for situation prediction, the IGA-LSTM model’s situation curve is closer to the actual situation curve.

A novel finer soil strength mapping framework based on machine learning and remote sensing images

Soil strength is an important factor for assessing the vehicle trafficability in the wilds and making reliable offroad path planning. Rating Cone index (RCI) has been widely used as an indicator of soil strength for mobility assessment. Currently, regional RCI are mainly obtained by using Soil Moisture Strength Prediction (SMSP) Model based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) soil types and soil moisture at critical depth. However, USCS classification is inaccessible directly in most soil databases. And current soil moisture products are of coarse spatial resolution and only reliable in soil surface layer. It is costly to arrange ground survey for USCS soil type and the fine soil moisture in deeper layers cannot be obtained directly. To fill this gap, a novel framework is proposed to generate finer RCI-based soil strength map. To gain USCS soil classification in an un-surveyed study site, RF, GBDT, XGBoost and LCE ensemble learning models were trained with data from gSSURGO Database which contains USCS soil types and soil properties, and then make prediction on data from SoilGrids Database by using same properties. Then, to obtain the finer soil moisture of critical depth, these treebased models were constructed with ground observation data, Sentinel-2 images, topographical data and soil properties with higher spatial resolution. The SMSP model is finally used to generate the finer daily soil strength map for the study site. The proposed framework highly improved the resolution and reliability of existing soil strength map generating methods, and can provide detailed soil strength information.

The paper provides a detailed description of the topographical distribution characteristics, along-strike morphologic variations, and tectonic implications of the Kyushu-Palau Ridge (KPR) in the 13 degrees-17 degrees N regions. The description is based on multibeam bathymetric data that was recently collected in the mid-southern segment of KPR and its surrounding areas. The findings indicate that the KPR in the studied region comprises several discontinuous seamounts and seamount chains. Along the ridge running from east to west, there is significant variation in the topography of the seafloor. Visible on this ridge are numerous deep-sea depressions and apparent topographical discontinuities. Geological tectonic processes such as plate subduction and seafloor spreading largely determine the topography of the seafloor. During the beginning of the Parece Vela Basin (PVB) spreading, the pre-existing volcanic arcs fractured under east-west extensional stress, resulting in the development of prominent seamounts, sharp ridges, relief alternations, and rift basins in the KPR. The east-west stress was subsequently transmitted to the weak and inactive mid-ocean ridge in the West Philippine Basin (WPB), which was reactivated and resulted in an episode of magma-poor spreading during 30-26 Ma. This episode caused the KPR to move eastward, stretched, and destroyed its pre-existing structure.

Due to the variability of children's acoustic features during growth and the lack of a publicly available corpus of children's speech emotion data, training a robust children's Speech Emotion Recognition(SER) is more challenging than that of adults. We develop in this paper a new SER learning solution for children, which generates a child-like speech spectrum from an adult's speech spectrum based on vocal tract length normalization (VTLN) and vocal tract length perturbation (VTLP). This improved adult spectrum is then used as augmented data to improve the child speech emotion recognition system. To validate the effectiveness of this data augmentation method, we test it in two mainstream SER task networks based on Compact Convolutional Transformers(CCT) and Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN), respectively, and the proposed data augmentation method improves the accuracy and UAR by 0.32% and 0.22%, respectively, on the Fau Aibo children's emotion data corpus compared to the VTLP baseline system when trained with CCT. When trained with CNN, the accuracy and UAR are improved by 0.39% and 0.26%, respectively, compared to the VTLP baseline system.

Improved formation and evolution models for hydrate flow barriers in water-dominated systems based on flowloop experiments

During gas hydrate and deep -water oil and gas exploitation, hydrate flow barriers in water -dominated systems represent a critical safety issue. In this study, hydrate formation and blockage were investigated using flowloop and focused beam reflectance measurement. An improved hydrate kinetic model suitable for cooling conditions was established considering various bubble behaviors. The special large aggregate size range was defined as 150 - 500 mu m. A new hydrate aggregation -blockage evolution model is proposed based on three significant events: large aggregate appearance, large aggregate blockage, and particle and small aggregate blockage. The results show that a critical initial flow velocity of 0.65 +/- 0.07 m/s determines whether large hydrate aggregates appear immediately at the onset of hydrate formation. Moreover, the prediction error for the flow velocity drop at significant events was less than +/- 9.1 %. Based on these results, two main hydrate blockage mechanisms in waterdominated systems are revealed.
