Carbon sequestration in overlying methane hydrate layers via hydrate technology: Feasibility and synergistic benefits

Excessive carbon dioxide emissions pose a global environmental issue, and carbon sequestration technology offers a solution. This study based on independently developed simulator proposes a novel approach for carbon dioxide sequestration in the overlying layers of methane hydrate reservoirs using carbon dioxide hydrate technology. The feasibility and risks of this method are evaluated over a time scale of 100,000 years. Results show that carbon dioxide migrates upwards after injection, forming highly saturated hydrate shells at the migration front. Within these carbon dioxide hydrate shells, a portion of the carbon dioxide is sequestered in liquid and dissolved forms;however, over tens of thousands of years, 20% of the COQ will dissolve, while less than 1% will escape. The study highlights the synergy between methane hydrate extraction and carbon sequestration, as the cold seawater down draw effect from extraction enhances sequestration efficiency and safety. Given the widespread distribution of methane hydrate reservoirs globally, this research provides new insights into carbon sequestration technology.

Carbon dioxide sequestration is a crucial strategy for achieving carbon neutrality. This study explores a novel approach to carbon dioxide storage in marine environments in the form of hydrate, addressing the stringent site requirements of traditional geological storage methods. Using a custom-developed simulator, a conceptual model for carbon dioxide sequestration in subsea reservoirs under a horizontal well network configuration was constructed. Key factors, including seawater depth, injection depth, and well spacing, were analyzed through simulations to quantify carbon dioxide storage capacity and assess associated risks under various sequestration scenarios. The results indicate that increasing seawater depth boosts both COQ storage capacity and safety, while deeper injection enhances safety but reduces hydrate storage capacity and raises leakage potential. Closer well spacing improves early-stage safety but increases long-term risks. The study outlines distinct sequestration stages and provides detailed analyses of COQ migration and phase transformations over time, contributing insights for advancing COQ sequestration strategies.

Natural gas hydrate represents an environmentally friendly alternative energy. However, the low-permeability hydrate reservoirs pose significant challenges to commercial production. To optimize hydrate production, reservoir stimulation methods like hydraulic fracturing, gas fracturing, and explosive fracturing are potential. In the investigation of the fracturing effect on hydrate dissociation behavior, we developed a three-dimensional model that comprehensively incorporates the arrangement of fracture planes, encompassing fracture permeability, spacing, and height. The model was implemented using a self-developed hydrate simulator which was validated at multiple scales. We firstly conducted a comparative analysis, contrasting the conventional depressurization method in horizontal wells with a combined depressurization and fracturing method. The comparison suggested that fracturing brings significant promotion (113.5%) on hydrate dissociation. Sensitivity analysis revealed fracture permeability and fracture height evidently exhibit an optimal value that facilitates the dissociation behavior. The optimal value of fracture permeability is dependent on the geological background. The optimal value of fracture height occurs just before penetrating the hydrate-bearing sediment layer and the overlying/underlying formations, i.e., near the thickness of the hydrate-bearing sediment layer. The impact of spacing on gas volume is limited while decreasing the spacing leads to more evident localized dissociation and differential subsidence of hydrate reservoir. It is necessary to balance production and geological risks when selecting the fracture spacing. The conclusions suggest that the fracturing operation need to be optimized by controlling the injection rate and the fracturing interval. The issue of thermal loss during the depressurization extraction of natural gas hydrates has long been a significant challenge for achieving long-term stable production. In the context of thermal stimulation extraction, researchers have proposed four injection methods: hot water injection, steam injection, wellbore electric heating, and low-frequency electric heating, and have conducted relevant studies. However, a comprehensive evaluation comparing the advantages and disadvantages of these four thermal stimulation extraction methods is still lacking. This research, using a self-developed hydrate numerical simulator, constructed extraction class III hydrate deposits models for the four injection methods and conducted long-term extraction simulations over a period of five years. The results indicate that low-frequency electric heating significantly enhances extraction efficiency under various permeability reservoir conditions. Its ability to achieve a large heating range and provide wellbore protection confers distinct advantages. In contrast, the hot water injection method imposes stringent requirements on reservoir permeability. Both steam injection and wellbore electric heating exhibit notable similarities in multiple physical fields and fluid production outcomes. This study offers valuable insights and reference points for the selection of thermal stimulation methods in future hydrate extraction engineering.

Due to the variability of children's acoustic features during growth and the lack of a publicly available corpus of children's speech emotion data, training a robust children's Speech Emotion Recognition(SER) is more challenging than that of adults. We develop in this paper a new SER learning solution for children, which generates a child-like speech spectrum from an adult's speech spectrum based on vocal tract length normalization (VTLN) and vocal tract length perturbation (VTLP). This improved adult spectrum is then used as augmented data to improve the child speech emotion recognition system. To validate the effectiveness of this data augmentation method, we test it in two mainstream SER task networks based on Compact Convolutional Transformers(CCT) and Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN), respectively, and the proposed data augmentation method improves the accuracy and UAR by 0.32% and 0.22%, respectively, on the Fau Aibo children's emotion data corpus compared to the VTLP baseline system when trained with CCT. When trained with CNN, the accuracy and UAR are improved by 0.39% and 0.26%, respectively, compared to the VTLP baseline system. © 2023 IEEE.

In multimodal sentiment analysis, heterogeneity between modalities makes inconsistent modal distributions a challenge. Especially in the case of incomplete features of certain modalities, the differences between modalities may interfere with the accurate prediction of sentiment categories. To address this problem, this paper proposes a missing modal reconstruction network (SSF-MMRN) for multimodal sentiment analysis based on sharing specific features. Firstly, a CMD distance-constrained training strategy is used to learn inter-modal consistency features. Second, based on the consistency features, a reconstruction module is proposed to generate missing modal features, check the semantic consistency of the recovered modalities with the original available modalities, and introduce inconsistencies into multiple models for better decision-making once they exist. Extensive experiments on the IEMOCAP benchmark dataset show that our proposed model effectively mitigates the modality gap during missing modality prediction and significantly improves the emotion recognition performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Natural gas hydrates are a promising and environmentally sustainable energy resource, but their commercial production remains challenging. External heating is crucial for improving production efficiency. In this study, we employed a self-developed simulator (IGG-hydrate) to compare the thermal performance of three key heating methods: electric heating (EH), steam injection (SI), and hot water injection (WI). Quantitative indicators, including heating and depressurization thresholds, were introduced to assess the effectiveness of each method. The results demonstrate that external heating significantly facilitates hydrate dissociation, with electric heating and steam injection showing comparable gas production rates and early-stage efficiency. However, both electric heating and steam injection methods can cause localized overheating near injection wells, leading to energy inefficiency. In contrast, hot water injection achieves a more uniform temperature distribution and a broader heating range, while avoiding excessive temperature rise. However, it also reduces depressurization efficiency and increases subsidence near the wells. To optimize performance, we propose a steam-water alternating injection strategy: steam is injected initially for rapid dissociation near the wells, followed by hot water injection to extend the heating range and maintain thermal efficiency with the same equipment.

The traditional identity authentication approach of username and password has the security risk of password leakage in the transmission process. For the security of password transmission in the blockchain education architecture, an asymmetric encryption algorithm is used to encrypt the transmitted password. Then use an improved random sampling algorithm to randomly extract part of the ciphertext and transmit those selected ciphertexts. The authentication credentials are sampled ciphertext and the location index. At the same time, the authentication factor is generated through the TimeStamp technology, and mutual authentication is realized based on the Response-Challenge protocol. Through security analysis and experimental analysis, the proposed scheme is proved to be secure.

Seafloor CO2 sequestration in the form of gas hydrates offers expansive geological opportunities for carbon neutrality strategies. Guided by phase equilibrium conditions, this study employs a self-developed multi-physical simulator to investigate how methane hydrate production beneath a CO2 sequestration zone can facilitate carbon storage. A dual-horizontal-well model is constructed and validated based on field measurements. Through numerical simulations, the effects of methane hydrate production timing, CO2 injection rate, and injection depth on carbon sequestration over a 100,000-year timescale are examined. Two novel metrics-sequestration efficiency and safe distance-are introduced. Results indicate that extracting methane hydrates in the later stages of CO2 injection is optimal. Furthermore, an efficient sequestration window exists for both injection rate and depth. By exploring the relationship between sequestration efficiency and storage safety, this study provides a new perspective for implementing CO2 sequestration pathways.

Accurate multiclassification and segmentation of gastric cancer based on a hybrid cascaded deep learning model with a vision transformer from endoscopic images

Compared with other forms of cancer, gastric cancer has high mortality and incidence rates, making it a major cause of death worldwide. Accurate diagnosis is crucial in the treatment of stomach cancer. Researchers have used deep learning techniques facilitated by developments in artificial intelligence to classify and segment endoscopic images of stomach cancer. Most recent research examining endoscopic images of stomach cancer has used a binary classification system, which is insufficient for practical use. False -positives and computational costs become problematic when segmentation is applied to all the images of healthy patients obtained throughout the evaluation. Hence, the expected level of performance has not been attained in the real-time multiclassification and segmentation of stomach cancer. In this study, we present a deep learning -based technique for multiclassification of endoscopic images by combining modified GoogLeNet and vision transformer (ViT) models and identifying invasive areas based on Faster RCNN. The classification of endoscopic images into three categories, namely, normal, early gastric cancer, and advanced gastric cancer, is accomplished by using a hybrid approach including modified GoogLeNet and vision transformer (ViT) models. Gastric cancer regions are then identified and segmented in the endoscopic images using the Faster R -CNN method. The Faster R -CNN algorithm is used with an endoscopic image as input, resulting in the generation of a bounding box and label image that accurately represents the gastric cancerous area. The proposed model achieved an accuracy, sensitivity and F1 -score of 97.4%, 97.5% and 95.9%, respectively, for the classification of noncancerous, early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer. Furthermore, the performance of the segmentation method was also validated based on evaluation metrics and achieved 96.7%, 96.6% and 95.5% accuracy, sensitivity and F1 -score, respectively, for the segmentation of noncancer
