This work is motivated by the misdetected and undetected errors in metallic gear defect detection when the defect features are very close to the interferences of oil stains and image shadow. In this paper we present a novel gear surface defect detection method based on the improved YOLOv5 network model to address this problem. The presented method combines the approach using the attention module CBAMC3 constituted by CBAM and C3 modules together with the analysis of the module BiFPN_concat, which makes the network capable of extracting and fusing defect features, respectively. The cosine annealing function is then employed to improve the learning ability of the network by modifying the learning rate. The experimental results indicate that the improved YOLOv5 network enhances both the recall rate by 13.1% and the mAP@0.5 by 12% based on the constructed gear defect dataset compared with the original YOLOv5 network. © 2022, The Authors. Hot-air drying shrinkage process of lignite and its cracking mechanism

Lignite fragmentation during drying can significantly impair the operation of a drying system. Volume shrinkage is the main factor that causes lignite fragmentation during low-temperature drying. A two-dimensional lignite plate was prepared for this study, and its drying behavior was analyzed. Instead of volume shrinkage, twodimensional area shrinkage was measured because of the ease of measurement. The shrinkage characteristics of a two-dimensional lignite plate were studied using the shrinkage percentage, shrinkage rate, shrinkage kinetic model, and shrinkage activation energy (Es). The development of surface cracks was quantitatively analyzed. The results reveal that the sample shrinks continuously during drying and that the shrinkage is severe at a high temperature within the selected range of experimental temperature. The Weibull distribution function better predicts the shrinkage process of the two-dimensional lignite plate. Volume shrinkage is caused by water removal. High-temperature drying leads to greater shrinkage owing to the fast water removal. The high pressure of water vapor generated within the lignite plate can lead to the formation of a dense crack network on the surface during drying at a high temperature. The direction of surface cracking is consistent with the direction of moisture removal. The difference in moisture content between the outer layer and the core of lignite particles leads to a difference in their shrinkage. The outer layer produces tensile stress under restriction by the core, which leads to cracking. In the range of 80-170 C, high-temperature drying results in greater moisture and shrinkage differences, resulting in more severe cracking.

Direct Detection of Pulmonary Fibrosis by Near-Infrared-Responsive Biomimetic Platelets

Background: Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a fatal lung disease and affects over 5 million patients worldwide. Precise and early detection of PF is of pivotal importance to slow the disease progression. However, there are currently no effective tools to detect PF directly. Purpose: This study aimed to develop an imaging modality to detect PF directly. Excessive collagen deposition is the hallmark of PF. herein, we developed a novel PF diagnostic agent, namely PVD (platelets-derived nanovesicles labeled with dye), by utilizing near-infrared (NIR)-responsive biomimetic platelets that specifically recognize collagen. Methods: In brief, platelets membrane was extracted from purified platelets by freeze/thaw and formed to PVD nanovesicles via sonication and extrusion, when loaded with DiR dye. Red blood cells membrane loaded with DiR was prepared in the same way as PVD to form RVD as control. Collagen self-assembled on microplates was used as an in vitro collagen fibrils model and monocrotaline-induced rats were used as an in vivo PF model. Results: We demonstrated that PVD, but not RVD nor other controls, could bind collagen both in vitro and in vivo, and directly detect pulmonary fibrosis in vivo and ex vivo at the early PF stage. Conclusion: Collectively, PVD is a versatile NIR-responsive probe for the direct visualization of collagen, and can be particularly helpful in direct detecting PF. To the best of our knowledge, PVD is the first report of a NIR probe for the direct detection of pulmonary fibrosis.

The general control system of bamboo splitting machine is controlled by Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), which is one of the most expensive devices in industrial automation control system. For some small enterprises or occasions with limited budget, the cost may become a limiting factor. Moreover, the technical threshold is high. Programming and debugging of PLC require professional technical personnel, and a relatively solid theoretical foundation of automation control is needed. Therefore, for some enterprises with lower technical levels, the use and maintenance may pose certain difficulties. To solve this problem, we have designed a set of bamboo splitting machine control system based on STM32 and touch screen. In the selection of HMI hardware, we choose a 2K touch screen with support for ten-point touch on the notebook computer, and equipped with a 64-bit processor chip i5-1135G7 based on the Intel core as the core processor. In terms of touch interface design, we introduce the comprehensive design of database technology and HMI interaction technology. In terms of HMI software interface programming, we adopt the method of object-oriented programming to achieve data communication transmission with the touch screen, upper computer and equipment. Through the Modbus-crc16 communication protocol, direct communication between STM32 and computer touch screen hardware is achieved. After debugging, the system runs stably with fast response speed and wide applicability. It reduces the reliance on traditional HMI hardware and speeds up the product development cycle. The design can achieve the desired display and control effects in the bamboo splitting machine system, providing a new way for the development of the bamboo splitting machine control system.

Residual and migration characteristics of norfloxacin in two mangrove ecosystems

Direct discharge of aquaculture wastewater in coastal areas could increase concentrations of antibiotics in coastal mangrove forests. This study focused on the Gaoqiao Mangrove Nature Reserve in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. Norfloxacin (NOR) residues in rhizosphere sediments, plant roots, branches, and leaves of two dominant mangrove communities, Rhizophora stylosa and Avicennia marina, the correlation between physical properties of rhizosphere deposition and residual NOR in sediments, and NOR accumulation in the root system were analyzed. Significant differences were noted in NOR residues in rhizosphere sediments of R. stylosa and A. marina, with higher NOR concentrations than those in other wetland sediments locally and abroad. NOR accumulation in R. stylosa was higher in the branches than in the roots and was also significantly higher than that in A. marina. Thus, both species could accumulate NOR from the environment with R. stylosa showing a stronger potential to purify the environment. Cation exchange capacity and total organic carbon could affect NOR distribution in the rhizosphere sediment, and total organic carbon content could reduce NOR uptake by mangrove roots. This study contributes to research on the migration and adsorption characteristics of antibiotics in mangrove wetlands.

The recurrence and metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) have been considered as a severe challenge in clinical treatment. Recent studies have demonstrated that matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and lactate can promote local tumor angiogenesis, recurrence, and metastasis. The expression of MMPs is highly dependent on energy metabolism, and lactate is considered an alternative energy source for tumor proliferation and metastasis. Therefore, using a rational approach, a photothermal-starvation therapy nanomodulator that can reduce energy metabolism to suppress CRC recurrence and metastasis is designed. To design a suitable nanomodulator, glucose oxidase (GOX), indocyanine green (IR820), and & alpha;-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (CHC) into nanoparticles by a coassembly method are combined. The photothermal properties of IR820 provide the appropriate temperature and oxygen supply for the enzymatic reaction of GOX to promote intracellular glucose consumption. CHC inhibits the expression of monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1), the transporter of lactic acid into cells, and also reduces oxygen consumption and promotes the GOX reaction. Additionally, altering adenosine triphosphate synthesis to block heat shock proteins expression can be an effective means to prevent IR820-mediated photothermal therapy resistance. Thus, this dual photothermal-starvation therapy nanomodulator efficiently suppresses the recurrence and metastasis of CRC by depleting intracellular nutrients.

Community structure of Rotifera and eutrophication evaluation of Nansha Mangal-Wetland Park in Guangzhou City

The community structure of Rotifera was investigated in four areas, namely the water inlet area (Ia, 1#), Sonneratia apetala area ((Sa, 2# and 3#), Phragmites australis area (Pa, 4# and 5#), and water outlet area (Oa, 6#), in Nansha Mangal-Wetland Park (NMP) in 2017. Indices, such as the dominance index (Y), Shannon Wiener Index (H'), Margalef Index (D), Saprobic index (S), and Brachionus: Trichocerca quotient (Q B / T ), were considered. A total of 73 species of Rotifera were identified, and the abundance ranged from 4.5 to 2585.8 indL−1with significant seasonal differences. Brachionus angularis and Asplanchna spp. were the dominant species (Y>0.01). Redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that CODMn, dissolved oxygen (DO) were the most important factors regulating the community structure of the Rotifera. Evaluation of the results using indexes such as H' showed large deviations from the results based on physicochemical indicators. The results from Q B/T were not compatible, and the S index was found to be more suitable for water quality evaluation in the NMP. Based on the results, the Sa area was more eutrophic than the Pa area.

Enhanced cadmium removal by a magnetic potassium ferrocyanide framework: Performance and mechanism study

Polluted environments often contain large amounts of toxic metals, such as cadmium, which pose a major threat to ecosystems and public health. Contamination by cadmium and its compounds is often observed in areas surrounding zinc mining sites and electroplating factories, and the control of cadmium pollution is essential for environmental safety and health. In this study, a highly efficient and straightforward separation strategy for K 4 Fe (CN) 6 @Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposites is successfully developed to capture the Cd ions in the water environment. Batch adsorption experiments revealed that K 4 Fe(CN) 6 @Fe 3 O 4 exhibited a high cadmium removal rate (greater than 98 %) at a pH level of 6.0 and solid-liquid ratio of 1.0 g/L at room temperature (298 K). Kinetic analysis revealed that the adsorption process followed a pseudo-second-order model and cadmium was rapidly removed in the first 10 min, with chemisorption dominating the capture of Cd 2+ by K 4 Fe(CN) 6 @Fe 3 O 4 . Adsorption isotherms revealed a heterogeneous adsorption behavior, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 40.78 mg/g. The intrinsic adsorption of Cd 2+ by K 4 Fe(CN) 6 @Fe 3 O 4 occurring primarily through electrostatic interaction and ion exchange. In addition, K 4 Fe(CN) 6 @Fe 3 O 4 exhibited an excellent regeneration capacity. Therefore, integrating Fe 3 O 4 into the metal cyanide not only provided the composite material with excellent chemical stability and selective adsorption sites for Cd 2+ , but also facilitated subsequent sorbent collection and recovery. Overall, this study presents a simple and feasible approach for integrating Fe 3 O 4 into potassium ferrocyanide frameworks for efficient cadmium removal from contaminated water.
