In real-time simulation applications, the full-order model often necessitates lengthy computation times, rendering it inadequate to meet the demands of real-time performance. In pursuit of establishing a digital twin for predicting the arc temperature field within transformer oil, this paper introduces a reduced-order model capable of rapidly solving the temperature distribution. Initially, a full-order model of arc heat transfer within transformer oil is developed employing the finite volume method. Subsequently, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is employed for feature analysis, followed by dimensionality reduction based on an energy ratio criterion to capture the predominant modes. Finally, a prediction model for each primary modal coefficient is constructed using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated through numerical simulations of a two-dimensional arc heat transfer multiphase flow model. The results indicate that the calculation outputs from the reduced-order model meet the specified error criteria. Concurrently, the computational time is dramatically reduced from hours to seconds. This research underscores the accuracy and timeliness of the reduced-order model, enhancing computational efficiency while maintaining the precision of the digital twin model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Calreticulin (CRT) is highly conserved chaperone located in the endoplasmic reticulum. It plays important roles in innate immunity. Although various immune-related functions of CRT have been reported in vertebrates and invertebrates, information on the potential functions of teleost CRT is very limited. In the present study, we characterized two calreticulin-related molecules from tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis), calreticulin-likel and calreticulin-like2 (CsCRTL1 and CsCRTL2). CsCRTLland CsCRTL2 contain signature CRT motifs that are highly conserved in different species. CsCRTLland CsCRTL2 were expressed in liver, head kidney, brain, spleen, heart, muscle, skin, intestine and gills. The expression levels of CsCRTLland CsCRTL2 were highest in liver and spleen, respectively. After stimulation by Vibrio anguillarum and Streptococcus agalactiae, CsCRTL1 and CsCRTL2 were significantly up-regulated. The expression patterns depended on the tissue type, pathogen type, and infection time. The recombinant proteins rCsCRTLland rCsCRTL2 bound to different pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) including LPS and PGN, and to different bacteria, such as Gram-negative bacteria V. anguillarum and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Moreover, rCsCRTLland rCsCRTL2 significantly enhanced the killing of V. anguillarum by tongue sole macrophages. Our results indicate that CsCRTLland CsCRTL2 play important roles in antibacterial immunity of tongue sole.

In the ever-evolving landscape of automotive technology, the efficiency and reliability of vehicle storage systems is paramount importance. Environmental factors, such as extreme weather conditions characterized by either intense cold or scorching heat, pose significant challenges to the optimal functioning of these critical components [1] [2]. In this paper, we investigate the nuanced effects of varying temperatures on data storage and machine learning workloads on flash based vehicle storage systems: the read and write operations of car flash memory. The work employs a multidimensional approach, incorporating environmental simulations, performance testing, and data analytics to comprehensively analyze the impact of temperature variations on the performance and reliability of vehicle storage. From room temperatures to sweltering heat, the study investigates how these adverse conditions influence the speed, reliability, and overall performance of flash memory in automotive applications. The experimental results reveal intricate relationships between temperature variations and the throughput and latency of flash storage for automotive applications, shedding light on potential vulnerabilities and opportunities for optimization. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for enhancing the resilience and adaptability of automotive storage systems to diverse environmental challenges. This research not only contributes to the broader understanding of the intersection between extreme weather conditions and automotive technology but also provides valuable insights for engineers, manufacturers, and policymakers working towards the development of robust and reliable vehicle storage systems capable of withstanding the rigors of diverse environmental conditions. Self-assembled molecular monolayer doping remains as a research focus for its nature of being conformal, nondestructive, and self-limiting. However, the carrying molecules may contaminate the substrate and electrically deactivate the dopants. In this work, we investigate the electrical activities of sulfur dopants in GaAs introduced by the self-assembled molecular monolayer doping technique. The results from secondary ion mass spectrometry and low-temperature Hall measurements show that the activation energy of sulfur dopants is 68 meV, and that 91% of these dopants introduced into GaAs by the self-assembled molecular monolayer doping technique are electrically active. The impact of the carrying molecular contamination is minimal. We employ this monolayer doping technique to create a PN junction diode on a p-type GaAs substrate. The PN junction diode exhibits an outstanding performance with an ideality factor of 1.26 and a rectification ratio up to 104 within the bias of +/- 0.6 V.

Data-Driven Stiffness Modeling and Design Optimization of Flexible Backbones for Modular Cable-Driven Continuum Robots

Most bioinspired cable-driven continuum robots (CDCRs) usually employ a flexible backbone to realize the continuous deflection. For the CDCR to merely produce bending motions, its flexible backbone has to be designed with low bending stiffness but high tensile and torsion stiffness. In this article, a pattern-based design approach is employed for the flexible backbone, which adopts rectangle-shaped patterns inspired by elastic couplings. As it is rather difficult to derive accurate analytical stiffness models for such a pattern-based backbone structure with large nonlinear deflections, a novel data-driven stiffness modeling approach is proposed. The Gaussian process regression method is employed to train the stiffness model with respect to structure parameters of the backbone, while the dataset is generated through a commercial finite element analysis software package. To narrow the distribution of the training data and make the predicated stiffness values always positive, the natural logarithm transformation is utilized for data preprocessing, which significantly increases the accuracy of prediction results. The average errors of the bending, tensile, and torsion stiffness between simulation results and predicted results converge to 1.88%, 2.33%, and 2.11%, respectively. The particle swarm optimization algorithm is employed for the structure parameter optimization based on the data-driven stiffness model. The stiffness errors of the optimized flexible backbone between simulation results and experimental results are 5.19%, 19.09%, and 5.38%, respectively. Experimental results show that the average position repeatability and orientation repeatability of a CDCR are 0.8822 mm and 0.0046 rad and the CDCR can carry the 500 g payload.

Optimization method and mechanism of microstructure and properties of WAAM Al-Cu alloy reinforced with two-dimensional h-BN particles

The mechanical properties of Al-Cu alloys produced through wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) often suffer from degradation due to continuous coarse precipitate phases and uneven microstructure. This research investigated the incorporation of h-BN particles into the deposition process of Al-Cu alloys during WAAM, examining how these h-BN particles influence the microstructure and overall properties of the material. The results indicate that h-BN particles promoted grain refinement, leading to a uniform equiaxed grain microstructure and addressing the issue of uneven interlayer microstructure. By generating a large number of fine, dotlike precipitates, the continuous coarse precipitates distributed along the grain boundaries (GBs) were disrupted. The tensile strength increased from 171.8 f 18.7 MPa to 254.4 f 8.7 MPa in the horizontal direction and from 183.6 f 19.4 MPa to 271.8 f 16.2 MPa in the vertical direction, representing an improvement of 48 % in both directions. The elongation increased by 44 % and 32 % in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively. However, there is no significant relationship between the change in elongation and the amount of particles added. This is attributed to the fact that the increase in dot-like precipitates and GBs inhibits crack growth, while the increase in pore number promote it. These two effects, on the whole, reach a certain level of equilibrium.

Whole-body cryotherapy can reduce the inflammatory response in humans: a meta-analysis based on 11 randomized controlled trials

Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) is increasingly being studied and used in various populations, mainly focusing on improving the body's regenerative capacity. More comprehensive summaries of anti-inflammatory responses are needed. To systemically assess the effect of WBC on the inflammatory response in humans based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Articles about RCTs accessing the effects of whole-body cryotherapy on the levels of inflammatory factors in humans published until August 1, 2024 had been searched in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane library databases. The general information of the included articles and exposure mode, the types and levels of inflammatory factors in serum were extracted. The PEDro scale was used to assess the risk of bias, and the GRADE scale was used to assess the level of certainty of evidence. RevMan 5.4 software were used to conduct the meta-analysis. A total of 11 RCTs in 11 articles were included, and the total sample size was 274. The level of IL-1 beta in serum of people exposed to WBC was lower than that in control group (SMD value was - 2.08pg/mL, P < 0.05), and athletes exposed to WBC were more likely to benefit from this. The level of IL-10 in serum of people exposed to WBC was higher than that in control group ( SMD value was 0.78 pg/mL, P < 0.05), and obese people exposed to WBC were more likely to benefit from this than athletes. WBC effectively reduces inflammation by lowering IL-1 beta and increasing IL-10 levels, offering significant benefits for athletes and obese individuals.

Effects of temperature and damage degree on the uranium leaching levels of uranium tailings filling materials and their S/S mechanism

Environmental pollution aroused by the discharge of heap leaching uranium tailings (HLUTs) is a significant issue in uranium-producing countries. This study presented a new formulation for filling material that utilized few clinker (CL) and phosphorus slag (PS) as binders blended with HLUTs to achieve dual goals of dealing with hazardous waste and managing mined-out areas. The mechanical properties, pore characteristics, U occurrence forms, and U(VI) leaching behavior of filling materials under various conditions were all investigated, and the S/ S mechanism for U(VI) and SO42- were also elucidated. The results showed that elevating the curing temperature from 20 degrees C to 30 degrees C resulted in an advancement of rapid strength development from 7-90 d to 0-28 d and a reduction in porosity. The U occurrence forms were less affected by curing temperature and soaking environment. In weak acid environments, the leaching levels of U(VI) in damaged backfill were lower than prescribed limits. Moreover, components such as Ca(OH)2, C3A in CL, and orthophosphate in PS could promote the formation of gypsum, ettringite (AFt), and newborn U minerals and other phases in the system, respectively, the latter were adsorped and encapsulated by calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gels, achieving solidification/stabilization (S/S) for U(VI) and SO42-. The findings present a robust theoretical framework and compelling empirical evidence for the sustainable management of HLUTs and other solid waste, with the goal of achieving minimal emissions.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of friction stir additive manufacturing for Al-6061 alloy builds under thermal cycling

Friction stir additive manufacturing (FSAM) is beneficial for producing lightweight alloy builds with superior performance, largely owing to the low heat input of solid-state manufacturing. herein, high-performance Al-6061 alloy multi-layered builds were successfully fabricated by the FSAM. Through real-time temperature measurement, along with multi-scale characterization and mechanical testing, this study examines how the distribution and evolution of thermal history influence the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-6061 alloy during FSAM. This study unveils the underlying mechanisms responsible for the non-homogeneous microstructure and mechanical properties observed in the multi-layered builds. In FSAM, the peak temperature reaches 408.2 degrees C. As the number of additional layers increases, the temperature history at the temperature measuring point shows a gradual decrease trend. As the number of FSAM thermal cycles increases, grain size increases 2.7-4.0 mu m, and the dislocation density declines from 2.38 to 2.16 x 1014/m2, both from the top region to the bottom region. This microstructure evolution leads to a gradual decline in material properties from the top region to the bottom region. Specifically, the hardness decreases from 74.6 to 68.7 HV, and the tensile strength decreases from 248.21 to 231.42 MPa, both from the top region to the bottom region. In addition, this study elucidates the fracture mechanisms of the Al-6061 alloy build by analyzing the fracture morphology of tensile specimens. The inherent hook defects and kissing bond defects of FSAM caused stress concentration under loading, which significantly weakens the material strength.

In this paper,effect of two strategies on afterglow behavior of Lu_(2)O_(3):Eu single crystal scintillato r,Pr^(3+)codoping and solid solution with Sc_(2)O_(3),were studied *** groups of Lu_(2)O_(3):5 at%Eu,x at%Pr(x=0,0.2,0.5,1,2 and 5)and(Lu1-yScy)_(2)O_(3):5 at%Eu(y=0,20 at%,50 at%and 70 at%)single crystals were grown by floating zone(FZ)method in air *** structures of as-grown crystals were determined by X-ray diffraction(XRD).The scintillation,photoluminescence properties and carrier trap states were investigated through afterglow,X-ray excitation luminescence(XEL),transmittance,photoluminescence excitation(PLE)and photoluminescence(PL),PL decay and thermal stimulated luminescence(TSL)*** is found that with the increase of Pr^(3+)concentration,the afterglow level of the system decreases at the expense of scintillation luminescence ***,although Sc_(2)O_(3):Eu presents much lower afterglow intensity than Lu_(2)O_(3):Eu,the addition of Sc_(2)O_(3)will just increase the afterglow level of the(Lu1-yScy)_(2)O_(3):5 at%Eu single crystal *** mechanisms for above phenomena are discussed based on experimental results.
