Nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes embedded with nitrogen-doped carbon black anchoring Pd nanocrystals to boost ethanol electrooxidation

Seeking and engineering superior supporting materials is a powerful strategy to rationally design electrocatalysts with both high activity and robust durability towards ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR). Accordingly, herein, nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes embedded with nitrogen-doped carbon black (NCB@NCNTs) anchoring surface-clean Pd nanocrystals (Pd/NCB@NCNTs), possessing a prominent three-dimensional network structure and adequate nitrogen-containing functional groups, were fabricated through a mild hydrothermal process followed by a surfactant-free chemical reduction. Oxidized carbon nanotubes (OCNTs), oxidized carbon black (OCB) and ethylenediamine (EDA) were used as precursors to acquire NCB@NCNTs. EDA not only serves as a nitrogen source to realize nitrogen doping but also acts as an important structural modifier to construct the firm cross-linked three-dimensional network structures through the strong hydrogen bonds. The obtained Pd/NCB@NCNTs exhibit exceptionally improved electrocatalytic activity, fast kinetics and robust durability as well as stability compared with the commercial Pd/C towards the EOR, due to the prominent roles of NCB@NCNTs with a unique three-dimensional network architecture and abundant nitrogen-containing functional groups. Specifically, the electrocatalytic EOR properties of Pd/NCB@NCNTs-2 with an optimal OCB/OCNT mass ratio of 1/4 is optimal among all prepared electrocatalysts and commercial Pd/C. This work presents a new design of a carbon-based material to fabricate highly active and durable catalysts for fuel cells and beyond. N-doped CNTs embedded with N-doped carbon black anchoring surface-clean Pd NCs exhibit exceptionally improved electrocatalytic behavior towards EOR, due to their unique 3D network architecture and abundant N-containing functional groups.

Association of nutritional and inflammatory status with patient self-reported symptoms in oesophageal cancer patients: A multicentre cross-sectional study

Purpose: Nutritional and inflammatory status is heterogeneous among oesophageal cancer patients and affects the recovery of patients' postoperative symptoms. We conducted this study to identify classes of nutritional and inflammatory status in oesophageal cancer patients, providing a basis for precise interventions to improve longterm prognosis and survival. Methods: Patients' preoperative nutritional and inflammatory status was obtained based on haematological tests. Self-reported symptoms were measured using the Recovery Symptom Assessment Scale for Patients Undergoing Oesophageal Cancer Resection. Latent class analysis analyses were used to identify heterogeneity in inflammation and nutrition in oesophageal cancer patients. Analysis of variance was used to test for differences in symptoms among patients with different inflammatory and nutritional status. Results: The Latent class analysis identifies three classes of body composition: "Low Inflammation-Good nutrition Group", "High Inflammation-Good nutrition Group " and "High Inflammation-Poor nutrition Group". Analysis of variance showed that the recovery of early postoperative symptoms and early recovery symptoms differed between the classes of oesophageal cancer patients. Conclusions: Different classes of preoperative nutritional and inflammatory status exist in oesophageal cancer patients, and there are differences between early recovery symptoms and psychosocial symptoms between these classes. Therefore, early assessment of the class of body composition in patients with oesophageal cancer is essential to improve their symptoms. Scientific and effective symptomatic interventions should be further explored in the future to improve the long-term prognosis of oesophageal cancer patients.

Health characteristics and factors associated with transition shock in newly graduated registered nurses: a latent class analysis

Background Transition shock occurs at a vulnerable time in newly graduated registered nurses' careers and has a clear impact on both newly graduated registered nurses' productivity and patient recovery outcomes. Identifying classification features of transition shock and targeting interventions to support newly graduated registered nurses is imperative. The study aimed to explore potential transition shock subgroups of newly graduated registered nurses and further explore the impact of population characteristics and two indices of health on transition *** A descriptive, cross-sectional design was conducted. An online questionnaire was sent via WeChat to newly graduated registered nurses who started work in 2021 at seven hospitals between August and November 2021, and 331 nurses filled out the questionnaire. Latent class analysis was used to identify the potential class of the transition shock of newly graduated registered nurses, and multinomial logistic regression analyses were used to determine the factors of potential *** The study identified four classes of transition shock in newly graduated registered nurses, namely, "high transition shock", "physical fatigue-lack of knowledge", "development adaptation" and "low transition shock-worry" groups. Newly graduated registered nurses who urinated less than 4 times per day (OR = 0.051, 95% CI = 0.005-0.502) were likely to be in the "high transition shock" group. Factors associated with self-compassion in Chinese oesophageal cancer patients undergoing oesophagectomy: Based on self-determination theory

Self-compassion exerts beneficial effects on clinical outcomes among different cancer patients, yet little research has focused on the experience of self-compassion in oesophageal cancer patients. This study initially clarified the self-compassion status and explored the influencing factors in patients undergoing oesophagectomy. The sample consisted of 289 oesophageal cancer patients who had undergone oesophagectomy from three hospitals in China to participate in this prospective cross-sectional observational study. Participants voluntarily completed a self-report questionnaire that assessed sociodemographic and medical characteristics, Self-compassion Scale (SCS), General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS). The distribution of positive and negative self-compassion for different sociodemographic and medical characteristics was visualized using violin plots. Overall, self-compassion score of 82.18 +/- 9.314 indicates a moderate level in oesophageal cancer patients. Various self-compassion responses among participants coexisted and scored highest on the domain of common humanity. Multiple linear regression showed that education level, monthly household income, self-efficacy, resilience and anastomosis site serve as internal factors influencing positive self-compassion. Furthermore, family support as an external factor is closely linked to self-compassion, whereas tumour site, combined with chronic diseases, anastomosis site and friend support significantly impact negative self-compassion. Consequently, when formulating interventions aimed at augmenting self-compassion, it is crucial to prioritize the utilization of internal motivational assets such as self-efficacy and resilience to bolster patients' assurance and adaptive capabilities. PurposeThis study aims to explore the conflicting issues of carbon accounting and trading practices in China through the lens of agonistic ***/methodology/approachBased on a framework of three interrelated levels, this study explores emitting entity carbon accounting debates and discussions in mitigating climate change. Interview data were collected from 20 emitting entity participants and external *** study identifies irreconcilable conflicts between emitting entities and the government in carbon accounting and trading activities. Under the strong influence of government power, emitting entities portray themselves as "responsible" and "legitimate" state-owned enterprises. This study further identifies possible democratic spaces and reveals the potential for agonistic discourse and a fallacy of "consensus" and monologues in institutional space. If the emitting entity and government can overcome their participation challenges, this would significantly facilitate vibrant and agonistic discourse in carbon activities and pave the way for democratic ***/valueThis study demonstrates the potential and limitations of applying agonistic democracy and the significance of participation in institutional spaces in government-led carbon accounting and trading issues. Busting the blackbox between managerial coaching behaviors and employee outcomes from a perspective of discrete emotional process mechanism

PurposeAs coaching assumes an increasingly critical role in satisfying employees' demands for growth, the function of coaching has progressively shifted towards direct supervisors. This study seeks to investigate the distinct effects of managerial coaching behaviors on employee outcomes from an emotional perspective. Specifically, we aim to explore whether leaders' encourage-to-explore and guide-to-learn behaviors impact employees' creativity and performance through discrete emotional mechanisms upon appraisal theory of ***/methodology/approachWe conducted two studies to test our proposition. In study 1, an experiment using coaching scenarios was performed with 128 students majoring in management. In study 2, data were collected from 311 supervisor-subordinate *** results indicate that encourage-to-explore behaviors are positively related to employee creativity by fostering feelings of inspiration, and guide-to-learn behaviors are positively related to employee performance by alleviating anxiety. Ketjen Black Selectively Anchoring Pd Nanocrystals on Nitrogen-Doped Graphene Based Aerogel for Robust Ethanol Oxidation

Searching and designing high-quality support materials is a strategy for rationally designing electrocatalysts for the ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR). In this work, the ketjen black (KB) embedded with nitrogen-doped graphene based aerogel (NG) anchoring palladium nanocrystals (Pd/KB@NG) was prepared through a one-step hydrothermal method. As a catalyst for EOR, Pd/KB@NG-2 (the mass ratio of graphene oxide and KB is 2:1) has significantly improved electrocatalytic performance compared with commercial Pd/C and other counterparts. The Pd nanocrystals were selectively anchored on the interface composed of KB and NG owing to the spatial confinement effect. Despite the higher Pd content (13.4 wt %), Pd nanocrystals (Pd NCs) are densely and uniformly dispersed between KB and NG on account of the anchoring and confinement effects of KB. The spatial confinement effect can also prevent the loss of the precious metal Pd, thereby improving the electrocatalytic activity and stability of the samples. Moreover, the electron-donating property of KB induces the electrons to flow from KB to Pd NCs, which enhances the electronic metal-support interaction, thus optimizing the adsorption behavior of toxic intermediate CH3COads and improving the electrocatalytic performance of the catalysts. In addition, the embeddedness of the highly conductive KB between NG not only endows fast channels to transfer interelectrons from the supports to the active metal but also generates the large number of pore structures, thereby creating the siphon effect and accelerating the mass transfer process during the process of EOR. Based on the spatial confinement effect, this work not only provides a perspective for the rational design of highly active catalysts but also opens an avenue to a generation of Pd-based catalysts for DEFCs and beyond.

Zirconium-based MOF nanocrystals confined on amphoteric halloysite nanotubes for promoting the catalytic hydrolysis of an organophosphorus nerve agent simulant

Exploiting efficient and practical catalysts for hydrolyzing organophosphorus nerve agents is significant and highly desirable. Herein, a new class of self-detoxifying composites, namely, halloysite nanotubes@NU-912 (HNTs@NU-912), HNTs@NU-912-I and HNTs@UiO-66-NH2, is constructed by in situ synthesis of hexanuclear zirconium cluster-based metal-organic frameworks (Zr-MOFs) NU-912, NU-912-I and UiO-66-NH2, respectively, with HNTs, which are natural nanotubular materials consisting of Si-O-Si tetrahedral sheets on the outer surface and Al-OH octahedral sheets on the inner surface. The results show that crystalline Zr-MOFs uniformly cover the outer surface of HNTs and the particle size of Zr-MOFs is greatly reduced to less than 50 nm. Furthermore, HNTs@NU-912, HNTs@NU-912-I and HNTs@UiO-66-NH2 display much higher catalytic efficiency for the hydrolysis of dimethyl-4-nitrophenyl phosphate (DMNP) than the corresponding Zr-MOFs both in an aqueous N-ethylmorpholine (NEM) buffer solution and under ambient conditions. Specifically, HNTs@NU-912-I shows a turnover frequency (TOF) of 0.315 s(-1) in aqueous buffer solution, placing it among the best Zr-MOF-based heterogeneous catalysts for the hydrolysis of DMNP. The composites show high stability, and more importantly, can replace the buffer solvent and control the pH to a certain degree by virtue of its acidic Si-O-Si sheets and alkaline Al-OH sheets. This work provides a certain reference for the subsequent development of personal protective equipment.

Effects of caffeine ingestion on physiological indexes of human neuromuscular fatigue: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background Caffeine is often used as a stimulant during fatigue, but the standard of characteristic physiological indicators of the effect of caffeine on neuromuscular fatigue has not been unified. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to summarize current experimental findings on the effects of caffeine on physiological indexes before and after neuromuscular fatigue, identify some characteristic neuromuscular physiological indexes to assess the potential effects of caffeine. Methods The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses are followed. We systematically searched PubMed, Google academic, and Web of Science for randomized controlled trials. We searched for studies on caffeine's (i) effects on neuromuscular fatigue and (ii) the influence of physiological indexes changes. Meta-analysis was performed for standardized mean differences (SMD) between caffeine and placebo trials in individual studies. Results The meta-analysis indicated that caffeine significantly improves voluntary activation (VA) (SMD = 1.46;95%CI:0.13, 2.79;p < .00001), PTw (SMD = 1.11, 95%CI: -1.61, 3.84;p < .00001), and M-wave (SMD = 1.10, 95%CI: -0.21, 2.41;p < .00001), and a significant difference (p = .003) on measures of Peak Power (PP), and insignificant difference on measures of heart rate (HR) (I-2 = 0.0, p = .84) and Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2) (I-2 = 0.0, p = .76). Conclusion The analysis showed that caffeine intake had a relatively large effect on VA, potentiated twitch (PTw), M-wave, which can be used as characteristic indexes of caffeine's impact on neuromuscular fatigue. This conclusion tends to indicate the effects of caffeine on neuromuscular fatigue during endurance running or jumping or muscle bending and stretching. Enhancing electrocatalytic methanol oxidation of Pd-Ir nanoalloy through electron-rich catalytic interface induced by incorporating phosphorus

Incorporating less expensive nonmetal phosphorus (P) into noble metal-based catalysts has become a developing strategy to enhance the catalytic performance of electrocatalysts for methanol electrooxidation reaction (MOR), attributing to the electronic and synergistic structure alteration mechanism. In the work, three-dimensional nitrogen-doped graphene anchoring ternary Pd-Ir-P nanoalloy catalyst (Pd7IrPx/NG) was prepared by coreduction strategy. As a multi-electron system, elemental P adjusts the outer electron structure of Pd and diminishes the particle size of nanocomposites, which heightens the electrocatalytic activity effectively and accelerate MOR kinetics in alkaline medium. The study reveals that the electron effect and ligand effect induced by P atoms on the hydrophilic and electron-rich surface of Pd7Ir/NG and Pd7IrPx/NG samples can reduce the initial oxidation potential and peak potential of COads, showing significantly enhanced the anti-poisoning ability compared with commercial Pd/C as the benchmark. Meanwhile, the stability of Pd7IrPx/NG is significantly higher than that of commercial Pd/C. The facile synthetic approach provides an economic option and a new vision for the development of electrocatalysts in MOR.
