Nonlinear gas sensing based on third-harmonic generation in cascaded chalcogenide microfibers

The performance of conventional gas sensors based on light absorption in the mid-infrared (MIR) faces the challenges of the high cost and low efficiency of photodetection at these wavelengths. In this paper, a nonlinear gas sensor based on third-harmonic generation (THG) in cascaded chalcogenide microfibers is proposed. In the first microfiber section, the input MIR light with "fingerprint" frequency has shown the ability for a large amount of gas absorption. The second microfiber section is used for THG pumped by the residual MIR light. In this process, the sensing signal is converted to the near-infrared region, and the power variation caused by the absorption is amplified due to the nonlinear relation between pump and harmonic signals. According to our analysis, the lowest methane concentration of 7.4 x 10(-8) can be detected at a practically drawable Ae(2)Se(3) microfiber length of 1 cm. Compared to direct MIR gas sensing, cascaded microfiber sensing has the advantages of improved sensing performance and also shorter absorption length. (C) 2019 Optical Society of America

心房颤动左心耳封堵前后左心房自发显影临床分析

目的·分析心房颤动(房颤)患者行左心耳封堵(left atrial appendage closure,LAAC)前后左心房自发显影(left atrial spontaneous echo contrast,LA SEC)发生情况及其与装置相关血栓(device-related thrombus,DRT)发生的关系,和对临床预后的影响。方法·该研究为回顾性、横断面研究,连续入选2018年8月至2020年12月在上海健康医学院附属周浦医院心内科用LAmbre封堵器行LAAC并完成术前及术后经食管超声心动图(transesophageal echocardiography,TEE)检查的非瓣膜性房颤患者126例,LAAC术前LA SEC患者比例为19.8%(25/126)。根据术前TEE结果分为LA SEC组(n=25)和无LA SEC组(n=101),分析患者基线资料、LAAC相关资料、围手术期并发症;术后TEE复查时间中位数为72 d,根据TEE结果,再次分为LA SEC组(n=58)和无LA SEC组(n=68)进行分析。对这些患者平均随访(12±6)个月,比较DRT发生情况,随访缺血性脑卒中及脑出血事件发生情况。结果·房颤患者LAAC术前LA SEC患者较无LA SEC患者接受抗凝方案的比例偏低,左心房内径及左心室内径增大,射血分数降低。LAAC后TEE复查诊断的LA SEC病例数增加至46.0%(58/126),其中40.0%(10/25)的LAAC前LA SEC患者封堵后TEE复查LA SEC继续存在;新发生LA SEC患者48例,占总例数的38.1%(48/126)。LAAC术后,TEE复查明确的LA SEC患者左心耳口直径较大及LAAC术后未接受抗凝方案而是选择抗血小板方案;LA SEC患者及无LA SEC患者之间死亡事件、缺血性脑卒中/短暂性缺血发作、脑出血事件发生率差异无统计学意义(均P>0.05)。结论·房颤患者行LAAC术前TEE诊断的LA SEC患者特点为抗凝比例偏低,左心房及左心室增大,射血分数降低;LAmbre封堵术后TEE复查诊断的LA SEC患者特点为左心耳口直径更大,术后抗凝比例偏低,但临床预后与无LA SEC患者无明显差异。

Metformin is among the most widely prescribed antidiabetic agents, with increasingly accepted by women with gestational diabetes mellitus due to its more convenient administration. Knowledge of the interaction of metformin with the uptake transporters of placental trophoblast cells is important for robust evaluation of the safety usage in pregnancy. Herein, the pregnancy pharmacokinetic study and distribution in placenta and fetus study were employed and showed that metformin could distribute quickly into the placenta and fetus, and the content of MET in the placenta was obvious higher than that in fetus. We further explored the effect of the uptake transporters on the transmembrane movement of metformin in placental trophoblast cells, and found that OCT1, OCT2, OCT3, THTR1 and THTR2 may be involved in the transplacental transfer of metformin in BeWo cells and pregnant rats. Ulteriorly, the effect of metformin on the expression of nutrient uptake transporters was evaluated on BeWo cells, which indicated that metformin may affect the fetal uptake of related nutrients from maternal blood by affecting the expression of glucose transporters, amino acid transporters, fatty acids transporters and especially vitamin transporters on placental trophoblast cells. These findings could serve as a valuable reference for the clinical utilization of metformin in pregnant individuals.

目的:分析复方甘草酸苷联合阿维A治疗脓疱型银屑病的临床效果。方法:2019年8月-2020年8月收治脓疱型银屑病患者64例,随机分为两组,各32例。对照组给予阿维A治疗;研究组给予阿维A+复方甘草酸苷治疗。比较两组治疗效果。结果:研究组治疗总有效率高于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05);研究组退热时间、皮损完全消退时间、住院时间及见效时间均低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05);研究组干燥脱屑、血脂升高、低钾血症等不良反应发生率低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05);研究组复发率低于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论:复方甘草酸苷联合阿维A治疗脓疱型银屑病的疗效确切,见效快、复发率低,患者用药后无明显不良反应,用药方法安全高效。

Mn-Ce co-activated garnet crystals as bright scintillators for fast gamma and high-performance X-ray imaging

Cerium-activated garnet-structured crystal Gd-3(Al,Ga)(5)O-12:Ce (GAGG:Ce) is regarded as one of the most effective scintillators for high-resolution radiation detection due to its high light yield, excellent energy resolution, and exceptional radiation hardness. Nevertheless, the long radiative lifetime of Ce3+ and the slow component in scintillation decay time pose significant limitations on its further application. To overcome these problems, a novel strategy has been proposed to create a complementary de-excitation channel by introducing Mn2+ as a co-activator. This newly created channel facilitates the transfer of energy from Ce3+ to the acceptor during non-radiative processes, thereby enhancing the de-excitation efficiency of Ce3+. Notably, benefitting from the luminescence of dual luminescence centers along with the energy transfer between Ce3+ and Mn2+, the higher Xray excited luminescence intensity (128% enhancement compared to undoped crystals) and faster scintillation decay are simultaneously realized for the first time in GAGG:Ce crystals. The higher X-ray excited luminescence intensity results in an excellent spatial resolution of 30.0 lp mm-1, which is significant for X-ray imaging applications. This enhancement greatly facilitates the commercialization of Ce-activated garnet-structured scintillators. The study highlights the potential of the cooperation of Mn2+ and Ce3+ in optimizing scintillation performances, thereby opening avenues for the development of ultrafast and efficient inorganic scintillators.

Degradation of glucocorticoids in aqueous solution by dielectric barrier discharge: Kinetics, mechanisms, and degradation pathways

Performance and mechanism of non-thermal plasma (NTP) technology in removing glucocorticoids (GCs) was investigated using a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor with fluocinolone acetonide (FA), triamcinolone acetonide (TA) and clobetasol propionate (CP) as representative compounds. Effects of discharge power, plasma-working gases, initial pH, coexistence of ions, and various water matrices (ultrapure water, lake water, drinking water, wastewater effluent) on GC removal and energy yield were evaluated. The results confirm that DBD treatment could efficiently remove FA, TA, and CP, achieving efficiency of 72% (k = 0.0126 min(-1)), 71% (k = 0.0096 min(-1)), and 74% (k = 0.0116 min(-1)), respectively in air-DBD system at 45.2 W, with the process following the first order kinetics and energy yield of 6 mg kW(-1) h(-1). The removal efficiency decreased when adding radical scavengers, indicating that hydroxyl radicals played an important role in GC degradation, while other active species (such as solvated electrons (e(aq)(-)), ozone (O-3), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ultraviolet photolysis (UV)) also contribute to GC degradation. The intermediates generated during the process were analyzed using quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (QTOF-MS). A total of 23 transformation products of FA, TA and CP were identified, and it was noted that substitution of halogen atoms with center dot OH, oxidation of hydroxyl group to keto acid, decarboxylation of the keto acid, addition of center dot OH, intramolecular cyclization, and hydrolysis of esters occurred during GC degradation by DBD treatment.

In this paper, we consider well-posedness of symmetric vector quasi-equilibrium problems. Based on a nonlinear scalarization technique, we first establish the bounded rationality model M for symmetric vector quasi-equilibrium problems, and then introduce a well-posedness concept for symmetric vector quasi-equilibrium problems, which unifies its Hadamard and Tykhonov well-posedness. Finally, sufficient conditions on the well-posedness for symmetric vector quasi-equilibrium problems are given.

Dual functional roles of the MyD88 signaling in colorectal cancer development

The myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), an adaptor protein in regulation of the innate immunity, functions to regulate immune responses against viral and bacterial infections in the human body. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and interleukin 1 receptors (IL-1R) can recognize microbes or endogenous ligands and then recruit MyD88 to activate the MyD88-dependent pathway, while MyD88 mutation associated with lymphoma development and altered MyD88 signaling also involved in cancer-associated cell intrinsic and extrinsic inflammation progression and carcinogenesis. Detection of MyD88 expression was to predict prognosis of various human cancers, e.g., lymphoid, liver, and colorectal cancers. In human cancers, MyD88 protein acts as a bridge between the inflammatory signaling from the TLR/IL-1R and Ras oncogenic signaling pathway. However, the MyD88 signaling played dual functional roles in colorectal cancer, i.e., the tumor-promoting role that enhances cancer inflammation and intestinal flora imbalance to induce tumor invasion and tumor cell self-renewal, and the anti-tumor role that helps to maintain the host-microbiota homeostasis to induce tumor cell cycle arrest and immune responses against cancer cells. This review precisely discusses the up to date literature for these contrasting effects of MyD88 signaling on colorectal cancer development and progression.

Cropland redistribution to marginal land has been reported worldwide;however,the resulting impacts on environmental sustainability have not been investigated *** we investigated the environmental impacts of cropland redistribution in *** a result of urbanization-induced loss of high-quality croplands in south China(～8.5 t ha-1),croplands expanded to marginal lands in northeast(～4.5 t ha-1) and northwest China(～2.9 t ha-1) during 1990-2015 to pursue food ***,the reclamation in these low-yield and ecologically vulnerable zones considerably undermined local environmental sustainability,for example increasing wind erosion（+3.47%）,irrigation water consumption（+34.42%）,fertilizer use（+20.02%） and decreasing natural habitats（-3.11%）.Forecasts show that further reclamation in marginal lands per current policies would exacerbate environmental costs by *** future cropland security risk will be remarkably intensified because of the conflict between food production and environmental *** research suggests that globally emerging reclamation of marginal lands should be restricted and crop yield boost should be encouraged for both food security and environmental benefits.
