Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), achieved through the continuous attack of reactive oxygen species (ROS), are considered the most efficient way to mineralize organic pollutants. Among them, photocatalysis is the most environmentally friendly strategy for pollution mitigation but is hampered by low conversion efficiency. By exploiting the coupling effect without changing the properties of the semiconductor, the application of pyroelectric fields can significantly improve the catalytic performance. The degradation rate of rhodamine B by Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 (BNT) nanoparticles under temperature fluctuations and visible light irradiation was up to 98%. The performance was enhanced by 216.54% and 31.48% compared to the pyroelectric catalysis and photocatalysis alone, respectively. The improved performance is due to the introduced pyroelectric potential with the imposition of temperature fluctuations, which can make the domains enhance the polarization of ferroelectrics, thus promoting the charge separation. This method can significantly advance the coupled pyro-photocatalytic reaction of ferroelectric semiconductors and also can enable the synergistic utilization of multiple energy sources such as solar and thermal which is a for environmental remediation.

With the rapid development of Ethernet, RS (544, 514) (KP4-forward error correction), which was widely used in high-speed Ethernet standards for its good performancecomplexity trade-off, may not meet the demands of nextgeneration Ethernet for higher data transmission speed and better decoding performance. A concatenated code based on KP4FEC has become a good solution because of its low complexity and excellent compatibility. For concatenated codes, aside from the selection of outer and inner codes, an efficient interleaving scheme is also very critical to deal with different channel conditions. Aiming at burst errors in wired communication, we propose a novel matrix interleaving scheme for concatenated codes which set the outer code as KP4-FEC and the inner code as Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) code. In the proposed scheme, burst errors are evenly distributed to each BCH code as much as possible to improve their overall decoding efficiency. Meanwhile, the bit continuity in each symbol of the RS codeword is guaranteed during transmission, so the number of symbols affected by burst errors is minimized. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed interleaving scheme can achieve a better decoding performance on burst-error channels than the original scheme. In some cases, the extra coding gain at the bit-error-rate (BER) of 1 x 10(-15) can even reach 1 dB.

Improving mechanical toughness and mold resistance of bamboo/high-density polyethylene composites by pretreatment with the fungus Trametes versicolor

Mechanical toughness and mold resistance of bamboo-plastic composites (BPCs) are essential for the application on structural materials. However, limited work has used biological methods to improve these properties of BPCs. In this study, the white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor was selected to modify bamboo fibers by short-term incubation. Modified bamboo fibers were then used to reinforce high-density polyethylene to prepare BPCs. Compared to the unmodified BPCs, the BPCs pre-treated with T. versicolor showed increases in elongations at break and impact strength, and these increases became more obvious with the incubation time increased. The improved mechanical toughness was assumed to the selective removal of lignin reduced rigidity of raw materials, and the increase of specific surface areas and pore volumes enhanced mechanical interlocking of the composites. Surfaces of BPC pretreated for 15 days were free of mold spores, yielding mold inhibition efficiency of up to 100%. It suggests that metabolism of reducing sugars would efficiently improve the mold resistance of BPCs. A novel, eco-friendly bioprocess for modifying the interface between bamboo and plastic was successfully established, and it allows BPCs to be widely applied in the field of outdoor living structures.

Real-time observation of stationary and pulsating noise-like vector pulses in a fiber laser

Rapid progress in real-time measurement technology has uncovered varieties of transient pulse dynamics. Here, we report the vector nature of noise-like pulse (NLP) in a passive fiber laser based on the nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) as the polarization independent saturable absorber. After achieving the basic operation regime of NLP, various types of vector pulses, namely, the polarization locked noise-like vector pulse (PLNLVP), the group velocity locked noise-like vector pulse (GVLNLVP), and the transitional state of combined characteristics of GVLNLVP and polarization rotation noise-like vector pulse (PRNLVP) are also obtained in the cavity. Besides, by utilizing the Dispersive Fourier transform (DFT) technique, the spectral evolution and the energy vibration of pulsating PLNLVP, GVLNLVP, and the transitional state of combined characteristics of GVLNLVP and PRNLVP are also analyzed in real time. Particularly, the coexisting pulsation vector state of NLP and soliton is also captured. As a type of low-complexity decoding algorithm for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, the single-minimum min-sum (smMS) algorithm avoids finding the second minimum, while estimates it by adding a fixed value to the minimum instead. However, the inaccurate estimation of the sub-minimum results in obvious performance degradation. In this work, we propose an improved smMS algorithm, which adds a dynamic value to the minimum based on a special variable that can be easily computed and largely represents the convergence degree of iterative decoding. This new algorithm is thus called dynamic smMS (dsmMS) algorithm. In comparison to the standard normalized min-sum (NMS) algorithm, the performance gap for LDPC code (672,588) is narrowed from 0.55 dB of the smMS to 0.12 dB of the dsmMS. We also present a partially parallel decoding architecture for the dsmMS algorithm, and implement it under 55nm CMOS technology with an area of 0.21 mm(2). Furthermore, compared with the traditional NMS decoder, the proposed design can reduce the area of the total decoder by 22%.

Analysis of the best roughness surface based on the bearing area curve theory

An in-depth study of friction and wear requires analysis of the surface morphologies and contact status of friction pairs in mechanical systems. The bearing area curve is introduced for the calculation of wear, and combined with the concept of repositioning. The application of fast calculation of wear amount and improved three-dimensional characterization of a bearing area curve is achieved by this new method. The best roughness surface is used as the target surface to extract the target bearing area curve. The influence of microtexture parameters on the bearing area curve is studied to determine the optimal microtexture parameters. The test results show that a matching texture surface has a short run-in time and the lowest friction coefficient after stabilization among the surfaces studied herein, and the presence of a texture changes the wear mechanism from the original adhesive wear to abrasive wear and improves the tribological performance. The best texture parameters and laser process parameters are determined, which provide new ideas for the optimal design of surface topography.

In this study, a microcapsule resin grafted with amidoxime group was prepared by phase transformation method, and the microcapsule resin was loaded with zinc as an antibacterial agent. The final preparation of Zn@AO-PAN PMR enhanced the antibacterial ability of Zn@AO-PAN PMR in real seawater based on its good uranium adsorption performance. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of Zn@AO-PAN PMR in real seawater could reach 50.30 mg/g. At the same time, the loading of Zn don't lose the adsorption capacity of the resin for U(VI). The antibacterial mechanism of Zn@AO-PAN PMR was explored using MAD.

BackgroundSingle-cell multi-omics technologies, particularly single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), have revolutionized our understanding of cellular heterogeneity and development by providing insights into gene expression at the single-cell level. Investigating the influence of genes on cellular behavior is crucial for elucidating cell fate determination and differentiation, cell development processes, and disease *** by NLP, we present a novel scRNA-seq analysis method that treats genes as analogous to words. Using word2vec to embed gene sequences derived from gene networks, we generate vector representations of genes, which are then used to represent cells by summing gene vectors and subsequently tissues by aggregating cell *** NLP-based approach analyzes scRNA-seq data by generating vector representations of genes, cells, and tissues. This multi-scale analysis includes mapping cell states in vector space to reveal developmental trajectories, quantifying cell similarity using Euclidean distance, and constructing inter-tissue relationship networks from aggregated cell *** method offers a computationally efficient approach for analyzing scRNA-seq data by constructing embedding representations similar to those used in large language model pre-training, but without requiring high-performance computing clusters. By generating gene embeddings that capture functional relationships, this method facilitates the study of cell development trajectories, the impact of gene perturbations, cell clustering, and the construction and analysis of tissue networks. This provides a valuable tool for single-cell data analysis.

Ferric sulfophenyl phosphate bonded with phosphotungstic acid as a novel intercalated high-temperature inorganic-organic proton conductor

A novel proton conductor was synthesized by intercalation of phosphotungstic acid (PWA) into layered ferric sulfophenyl phosphate (FeSPP) via in-situ polymerization. Fe-O-W covalent bonds were formed between FeSPP and PWA in the synthesized intercalated proton conductor (FeSPP-PWA). FeSPP-PWA with a PWA content of up to 42 wt% remained the layered structure of FeSPP. FeSPP-PWA exhibited good thermal stability up to 200 degrees C. The ion-exchange capacity of FeSPP-PWA(15 wt%) was 1.73 meq g(-1). Its proton conductivity was 0.14, 6.6 x 10(-2) and 1.65 x 10(-2) S cm(-1) at 100%, 50% and 0 RH at 180 degrees C, respectively, corresponding to the activation energy of 15.2, 17.3 and 27.0 kJ mol(-1), respectively. After washing for 12 and 24h, the conductivity of FeSPP-PWA(15 wt%) at 180 degrees C at 100% RH reduced by 1.5% and 1.7%, respectively. In comparison, the proton conductor prepared by direct mixing of FeSPP and PWA showed lower proton conductivity and poorer washing fastness than FeSPP-PWA. Intercalation of PWA into FeSPP proved to be an effective method for the preparation of high performance proton conductor. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
