This paper delves into recent hardware implementations of the Lempel-Ziv 4 (LZ4) algorithm, highlighting two key factors that limit the throughput of single-kernel compressors. Firstly, the actual parallelism exhibited in single-kernel designs falls short of the theoretical potential. Secondly, the clock frequency is constrained due to the presence of the feedback loops. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel scheme that restricts each parallelization window to a single match, thus elevating the level of actual parallelism. Furthermore, by restricting the maximum match length, we eliminate the feedback loops within the architecture, enabling a significant boost in throughput. Finally, we present a high-speed hardware architecture. The implementation results demonstrate that the proposed architecture achieves a throughput of up to 16.10 Gb/s, exhibiting a 2.648× improvement over the start-of-the-art. The new design only results in an acceptable compression ratio reduction ranging from 4.93% to 11.68% with various numbers of hash table entries, compared to the LZ4 compression ratio achieved by official software implementations disclosed on GitHub.

Product code has been proven as an efficient choice for achieving high net coding gain (NCG) at extremely low bit error rates (BER) in fiber communication systems. Compared to the hard-decision product decoders, it has been demonstrated that decoders based on soft-assisted decoding algorithms can achieve excellent decoding performance with only a slight increase in area. However, existing decoders tend to have high power dissipation and large component decoder area due to the fully-parallel architecture. Therefore, further efforts are needed to achieve efficient hardware implementation. In this paper, a low-area and low-power product decoder based on Improved Soft-Assisted Iterative Bounded Distance Decoding algorithm (ISA-iBDD) algorithm is presented. The ASIC synthesis results show that the proposed design leads to an 8.5× improvement in area efficiency (AE) and a reduction of 62% in energy dissipation compared with the state-of-the-art design.

Objectives: The purpose of this investigation was to assess the prognostic importance of the combination of preoperative hemoglobin (Hb) levels and Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) in forecasting postoperative survival outcomes for patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) due to Vater ampulla carcinoma (VPC). Methods: The GNRI nutritional screening was conducted for all patients, and patient outcomes, including overall survival (OS), were subsequently monitored. An H- GNRI scoring system was established using the optimal critical values of 125.5 g/L for Hb and 91.72 for GNRI, as determined by X-tile software. According to the H-GNRI score, the patients were categorized into three groups, namely low H-GNRI group (H-GNRI score = 0, n = 47) with Hb < 125.5 g/L and GNRI < 91.72;medium H-GNRI group (H-GNRI score = 1, n = 77) with Hb < 125.5 g/L and GNRI >= 91.72, or Hb >= 125.5 g/L and GNR < 91.72;and high H-GNRI group (H-GNRI score = 2, n = 51) with Hb >= 125.5 g/L and GNRI >= 91.72. The Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank tests were employed to evaluate the OS rate and compare survival disparities among various groups. Additionally, both univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted utilizing the Cox regression model, with p < 0.05 considered statistically significant. Finally, to evaluate the predictive effectiveness of Hb, GNRI, and H-GNRI, a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed to compare the area under curve (AUC) values. Results: The OS rate was higher in patients with high Hb levels (>= 125.5 g/L) compared to those with low Hb levels (< 125.5 g/L). Likewise, patients in the high GNRI group (>= 91.72) exhibited significantly superior OS compared to those in the low GNRI group (< 91.72). Compared with both the medium and low H-GNRI groups, the high H-GNRI group demonstrated a notably higher OS rate. Preparation and performance of amidoximated silver-silica core-shell nanoparticles for uranium extraction from seawater

Biofouling caused by marine microorganisms could remarkably decrease the adsorption capacity of adsorbents towards uranium extraction from seawater since the materials usually have to be immersed in marine environment for several months owing to the extremely low content of uranium. In order to avoid the interference of microbial adhesion, this work designed and fabricated a new antibacterial material named amidoximated silver-silica core-shell nanoparticle (Ag@SiO2-AO) as a potential adsorbent for uranium extraction from seawater. Experimental results demonstrated that in uranium-spiked seawater, the maximal uranium uptake of Ag@SiO2-AO reached 47.42 mg/g, and the silver released by the material was effective to inhibit Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus by interrupting cell respiration, resulting in lipid peroxidation and ultimately the death of cell.

The adjustment factor aided noisy gradient descent bit-flipping (ANGDBF) offers a significant improvement in error correction capability compared with other gradient descent bit-flipping (GDBF) variants. However, there still exists a considerable performance gap between the ANGDBF algorithm and the belief propagation (BP) algorithm. This paper presents a sign aided adaptive noisy GDBF (SANGDBF) algorithm, in which the mean of noise perturbation shows an adaptive property, facilitating the decoding process to escape from the local maxima more effectively. Moreover, the sign of the correlation term is fully utilized to improve the reliability of the inversion function. Simulation results show that the SANGDBF algorithm can achieve about 0.5 dB coding gain compared with the ANGDBF algorithm with limited hardware overhead. © 2022 IEEE.

When non-binary low-density parity-check (NB-LDPC) codes with low column weights are adopted, the iterative reliability-based majority-logic decoding (IRB-MLGD) algorithms suffer from severe performance degradation compared to message passing algorithms. In this brief, based on the improved iterative soft reliability-based (IISRB)-MLGD algorithm, we propose a perturbation-injected (P)-IISRB algorithm, where a regular perturbation is introduced to alleviate the periodic point problem that is the main reason for IISRB decoding failure. Compared with the conventional IISRB, the new algorithm significantly improves the decoding performance, lowering the error-floor by at least two orders of magnitude for the example code. Besides, instead of traditionally pre-computing and storing all the q-ary channel reliability measures, a real-time computing method is presented, which reduces the memory cost from O(q) to O(log(2) q).

Polar-coded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system has obtained increasing attention recently, in which iterative detection and decoding (IDD) brings improved performance compared to separate detection and decoding (SDD) schemes. IDD requires the exchange of soft information between the detector and decoder, but the best-performing decoding algorithm for polar codes, the cyclic redundancy check (CRC)-aided successive cancellation list (CA-SCL) algorithm, cannot generate soft outputs by itself. To address this issue, existing high-performance soft-output decoders combine the CA-SCL decoder with the belief propagation (BP) or soft cancellation (SCAN) decoding process to generate soft outputs, leading to high computational complexity and memory requirements. In this work, an efficient partial sum-based soft-output SCL (PS-SSCL) decoder is proposed, which utilizes the inherent partial sums generated during the CA-SCL decoding process to calculate soft outputs without introducing any additional decoding procedure. For the 5G (256,128) polar code, the proposed PS-SSCL decoder achieves a 57% reduction in memory requirements and a 62% reduction in computational complexity compared to the state-of-the-art soft-output list (SOL) polar decoder. Additionally, the PS-SSCL decoder can also bring more than 0.2 dB gain over the SOL decoder, when integrated into the IDD receiver with the linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) detector.

Perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) have attracted substantial attention due to their inspiring intrinsic merits such as low cost, high performance, and solution processability, but when it comes to the usage of blends of different colored PNCs with the purpose of covering the broadband spectrum field, the high degree of instability remains a major bottleneck. Herein, we report a family of dendritic ammonium ligands that act as stiff shell-encapsulating PNCs for improving their stability and suppressing ion permeability in mixed colloidal PNC solutions. The as-synthesized ligand-encapsulated PNCs notably achieve near-unity photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) and strongly resist the unwanted ion exchange reaction under aggressive anion source attack. To fabricate self-powered white-emitting glass, the stabilized mixed colored PNCs were embedded into the laminated glass, which simultaneously acted as absorbers-emitters for luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) and emitters for white light-emitting glass.

Tripterygium Glycosides Tablets (TGT) has shown obvious anti-rheumatoid arthritis (RA) effects accompanied by hepatotoxicity. Despite that many studies looked at TGT's anti-RA or hepatotoxic mechanism and substance basis, the results were still insufficient. Furthermore, the anti-RA and hepatotoxicity investigations of TGT were undertaken separately, neglecting the relationship between efficacy and toxicity. Herein, an integrated approach combining metabolomics, network pharmacology, serum pharmacochemistry, and molecular docking was adopted to elucidate the mechanism and substance basis of Tripterygium Glycosides Tablets (TGT) on anti-rheumatoid arthritis and hepatotoxicity simultaneously. The results showed that 33 components in TGT were absorbed into rat serum. Two toxic targets (PRKCA, FASN), three effective targets (PLA2G10, PTGES, PLA2G1B), and four effective and toxic targets (PTGS1, PTGS2, PLA2G2A, ALOX5) were obtained by metabolomics combined with network analysis and network pharmacology. A component-target-RA-hepatotoxicity network was constructed and five hepatotoxic components (1-desacetylwilforgine, wilfordconine, wilforgine, wilformine, wilfornine D), eight effective-toxic components (14-oxo-19-(4 -> 3) abeo-abieta-3,8,12-tetraen-19,18-olide, 7-oxo-18(4 -> 3) abeo-abieta-3,8,11,13-tetraen-18-oic acid, hypoglaulide, triptotriterpenic acid A, wilforol F, wilforlide B, triptoquinone B, wilforlide A);and 23 non-effective and non-toxic components were acquired and validated by molecular docking. In addition, our research revealed that glycerophospholipid metabolism and ether lipid metabolism were correlated to both hepatotoxicity and anti-RA of TGT. While in sphingolipid metabolism, ceramidases regulated ceramide-sphingosine and phytoceramide-phytosphingosine reaction were found to be correlated to hepatotoxicity, sphinganine-1-phosphate lyase (SPL) regulated sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P)-phosphoethanolamine and sphinganine 1-phosphate-phosphoethanolamine
