Evaluation of Solar Drying on Drying Behaviour and Drying Kinetics of Penaeus vannamei

This work aimed to evaluate the effects of solar drying (SD) on physico-chemical properties, drying kinetics, and energy consumption to dry Penaeus vannamei, considering natural drying (ND) and hot-air drying (HD) as references. Compared with ND and HD, SD exhibited the shortest time when the moisture content (MC) was reduced from 73% to 18%, and the effective moisture diffusivity was in the range of 151.26 x 10-10 to 9.26 x 10-10 m2s-1. The two-term model was the most suitable for fitting of the drying curves by analyzing six theoretical models. Additionally, the superior texture, brighter color, and higher sensory scores were obtained by SD. SD application brought about changes in shrinkage and rehydration. And the different drying methods presented significant effects on energy consumption;of which, SD saved the most energy (3.00 kWh). Impact analysis showed that SD is a suitable solution for preserving Penaeus vannamei with environmental sustainability.

Preparation and characterization of zirconium phytate as a novel solid intermediate temperature proton conductor

Zirconium phytate (ZrPA) was prepared via gelation of zirconyl chloride and phytic acid in certain ratios. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was applied to confirm the structure and interactions between Zr4+ and phytate ions, including hydrogen bonding and chelation. Scanning and transmission electron microscopic study have shown that ZrPA has a fusiform shape and a layered structure. Good thermal stability up to 250 degrees C was obtained. ZrPA(3:4) exhibited an ion exchange capacity of 1.04 meq g(-1). At 140 degrees C the proton conductivity of ZrPA(3:4) was 0.099 S cm(-1) at 100% RH, 0.042 S cm(-1) at 50% RH and 0.018 S cm(-1) at 0RH. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Preparation and properties of ZrPA doped CMPSU cross-linked PBI based high temperature and low humidity proton exchange membranes

Poly[4,4'-(diphenyl ether)-5,5'-bibenzimidazole] (oPBI) based high temperature proton exchange membranes are prepared by covalent cross-linking with chloromethylated polysulfone (CMPSU) and doping with zirconium phytate (ZrPA). ZrPA is synthesized as the proton conductor through a facile method from zirconyl chloride and phytic acid which is abundant and readily available. oPBI is cross-linked by CMPSU and that hydrogen bonds are formed between ZrPA and oPBI-CMPSU. The composite membranes are dense without through holes when doping with ZrPA. The composite membranes exhibit good thermal stability below 140 degrees C. Meanwhile, the composite membranes reveal good mechanical strength and methanol resistance. The oxidative stability is improved because of cross-linking and the doping of ZrPA. Conductivities of oPBI-CMPSU/ZrPA at different temperatures and relative humidity (RH) are investigated. At 100% RH, 50% RH and 0 RH, the conductivity of oPBI-CMPSU(20%)/ZrPA(30%) can reach 0.072 S/cm, 0.025 S/cm and 0.012 S/cm at 140 degrees C, respectively. Although the proton conductivity of the composite membrane was not particularly high at 100% RH, the composite membrane comparatively exhibited good proton conductivity at high temperature and at 50% RH and 0 RH.

Single-Atom Ru-Triggered Lattice Oxygen Redox Mechanism for Enhanced Acidic Water Oxidation

Activating the oxygen anionic redox presents a promising avenue for developing highly active oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts for proton-exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWE). Here, we engineered a lattice-confined Ru single atom dispersed on a lamellar manganese oxide (MnO2) cation site. The strong Ru-O bond induced an upward shift in the O 2p band, enhancing metal-oxygen covalency and reshaping the OER mechanism toward lattice oxygen oxidation pathway with increased activity. In situ spectral characterization combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that electron transfer from Mn to Ru alleviates the Jahn-Teller effect within the MnO6 octahedral structure, stabilizing the lattice. The layered Ru/MnO2 architecture also promotes the rapid replenishment of oxygen vacancies, preventing structural collapse. As a result, the optimized Ru/MnO2 electrocatalyst achieves an OER overpotential of only 179 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 0.5 M H2SO4, along with exceptional durability over 1000 h at 100 mA cm-2. Moreover, the Ru/MnO2-based PEM device requires only 1.71 V to reach 1 A cm-2 and shows a durability of 500 h at 500 mA cm-2 © 2025 American Chemical Society.

A Low-Complexity and High-Throughput Hardware Design for Lempel-Ziv 4 Compression Algorithm

The Lempel-Ziv (LZ) 4 compression algorithm, widely used in data transmission and storage, faces the challenge of high-speed implementation and increased complexity in the era of big data. Therefore, this paper proposes a single-core parallel architecture for LZ4 algorithm with high throughput and low complexity. Firstly, to enhance throughput, two innovative approaches are introduced from the perspective of parallelism and frequency with an acceptable compression ratio loss: each parallelization window is restricted to performing a single match, bridging the gap between actual and theoretical parallelism;the feedback loop in the circuit is broken by utilizing the spatial correlation between adjacent matches for higher frequency. Secondly, two optimization schemes are employed on resource-consuming modules to achieve low complexity. Multi-port hash tables using Live Value Table (LVT) are improved based on inherent data characteristics, significantly reducing the hardware resource consumption while ensuring excellent scalability on hash table depth and frequency. The match comparison operation is moved ahead, further reducing the logic resources by 64.36%. Finally, our design is implemented on FPGA and ASIC platforms. Experimental results on FPGA demonstrate that the proposed architecture achieves a throughput of 17.39 Gb/s, exhibiting a 2.86x improvement over the state-of-the-art, along with a 6.46x enhancement in area efficiency. Further optimizations including Canonic Signed Digit (CSD) coding and computational reuse on the ASIC platform result in a 45x improvement in area efficiency.

The electro-oxidation of dimethyl ether on platinum-based catalyst

Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and stripping voltammetry were used to study the electro-oxidation of dimethyl ether (DME) on powder microelectrodes (PMEs) containing Pt black and Pt-Ru black. As evidenced by current-time curves of DME oxidation, Pt-Ru was better than Pt in catalytic oxidation of DME, which is due to the high concentration of OHads species on its surface. Results also showed that high temperature not only promotes the oxidation of DME, but also increases the concentration of OHads species formed by water decomposition. In addition, the performance of single direct DME fuel cell was investigated combined with gas chromatographic (GC) analyses of its anode outlet stream. Based on CV tests, a mechanism of DME indicating two kinds of DME adsorption modes, Pt-CO and electro-oxidation was tentatively proposed, Pt-COH existed oil Pt surface. Two-dimensional iron polyphthalocyanine(PPcFe) was synthesized by heating iron (II) phthalocyanine tetracarboxylic acids at 400 degrees C in argon atmosphere. The polymer was characterized and analyzed by UV-Vis, FT-IR, XRD and TG. UV-Vis absorption spectra of iron phthalocyanine showed that absorption bands appeared at higher wavelengths than monomer phthalocyanine. The result of IR indicated that the absorption peaks corresponding to the carboxylic acid groups decreased and the characteristic phthalocyanine ring absorption bands were observed. The DTA data for PPcFe showed exceptional thermal stability. PPcFe, monomer phthalocyanine(PcFe) and dinuclear iron phthalocyanine(DPcFe) were adsorbed on the Vulcan XC-72 carbon and then heat-treated at 400 degrees C in argon atmosphere to prepare catalyst. The electrocatalytic activity was investigated using linear scan voltammetry(LSV) in 0.5M H2SO4. The polarisation curve of oxygen reduction on the FePPc/C catalyst in O-2-saturated H2SO4 was compared to that obtained on PcFe, DPcFe and platinum catalysts. Results showed that it possessed higher catalytic activity than PcFe and DPcFe catalysts. LSV at different electrode rotation rates led to determine the Koutecky-Levich plots from which it was shown that the kinetic parameters for the ORR at FePPc/C electrodes are similar to those obtained at 30wt% Pt/C.

Ferric sulfophenyl phosphate bonded with phosphotungstic acid as a novel intercalated high-temperature inorganic-organic proton conductor

A novel proton conductor was synthesized by intercalation of phosphotungstic acid (PWA) into layered ferric sulfophenyl phosphate (FeSPP) via in-situ polymerization. Fe-O-W covalent bonds were formed between FeSPP and PWA in the synthesized intercalated proton conductor (FeSPP-PWA). FeSPP-PWA with a PWA content of up to 42 wt% remained the layered structure of FeSPP. FeSPP-PWA exhibited good thermal stability up to 200 degrees C. The ion-exchange capacity of FeSPP-PWA(15 wt%) was 1.73 meq g(-1). Its proton conductivity was 0.14, 6.6 x 10(-2) and 1.65 x 10(-2) S cm(-1) at 100%, 50% and 0 RH at 180 degrees C, respectively, corresponding to the activation energy of 15.2, 17.3 and 27.0 kJ mol(-1), respectively. After washing for 12 and 24h, the conductivity of FeSPP-PWA(15 wt%) at 180 degrees C at 100% RH reduced by 1.5% and 1.7%, respectively. In comparison, the proton conductor prepared by direct mixing of FeSPP and PWA showed lower proton conductivity and poorer washing fastness than FeSPP-PWA. Intercalation of PWA into FeSPP proved to be an effective method for the preparation of high performance proton conductor. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Screening of saccharomyces cerevisiae: A strategy to enhance flavour of jujube liquor

The main objective of this study was to isolate newly indigenous yeast strains from the fermentation of jujube liquor. 19 isolated yeast strains were obtained by spontaneous solid-state fermentation and flavour characteristics of the fermented jujube juice were also compared from above selected strains. 3 strains (JM-3, JM-13, JM-17) were screened out and identified as Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) by molecular identification. Tolerance tests for glucose, temperature, pH and alcohol of three yeast stains were compared. The result showed that the glucose tolerance of JM-3 was better those of JM-13 and JM-17, the temperature and pH tolerance were similarities in three yeast strains and the alcohol tolerance of JM-13 was better those of JM-3 and JM-17. Jujube juice was used as medium for single and mixed-culture fermentation with commercial S. cerevisiae G-1. All the important aroma compounds were detected in jujube juice fermented with JM-13+G-1 and JM-13 had an excellent potential starter for jujube liquor production. © 2020 Xiaolei Guan, Yaqiong Liu, Yao Lu, suwen wang, Jingyu Jin, Jie wang and Rongbin Li.

Comparative study of microbial communities and volatile profiles during the inoculated and spontaneous fermentation of persimmon wine

In this study, we determined the composition of microorganisms in the spontaneous/inoculated fermentation process of persimmon (Diospyros kaki L., China) wine for the first time and compared the similarities and differences of microbial succession, change in volatile compounds, and variations in amino acids. We found that spontaneous persimmon wine fermentation (SPF) resulted in lower bacterial community diversity and higher fungi community diversity than inoculated persimmon wine fermentation (IPF). SPF increased the proportion of esters in overall volatile compounds (29.9 % vs 18.9 %) at the end of fermentation. According to partial least squares (PLS, VIP > 1.0) analysis and Spearman?s correlation analysis, 18 (11 bacterial and 7 fungus) were identified as the functional core microbiotas in SPF. Among them, indigenous Saccharomyces, Hanseniaspora, Rhodotorula, Leuconostoc, and Lactobacillus play an important role in the formation of volatile compounds and are worthy of further study, while Escherichia-Shigella, Ralstonia and Zoogloea should be inhibited during the fermentation process. However, a key problem in SPF was the fermentation time, which was too long (about 27 days) and did not meet the needs of industrial production. Overall, the results showed the possibility of considering select indigenous aroma-producing microorganisms as persimmon wine fermentation starters to improve the unique characteristics of persimmon wine.
